It’s my opinion that if the beach visit came directly after Josh puking at the bar, there is no way that he would be responsible for anything nefarious involving Sudiksha. Josh was completely out of commission!
That's not how it works. If you rape or kill someone while drunk, you are still criminally responsible, and rightfully so.

Why would they want it done so soon?

Article also said:

“The sources also explained that her parents acknowledged in the letter that there is no suspicion of foul play in the incident regarding their daughter's presumed death.”

"In the letter, the Sudikshs Konanki family said they trust the authorities investigation and understand that certain legal procedures must be followed for their request, but that they are prepared to comply with any necessary documentation."

"They also said in the letter that 24-year-old Joshua Riibe is cooperating with the investigation and they acknowledge there is no evidence of foul play, according to ABC News."

But wasn't he supposedly passed out on the beach, or lounge chair, during that time?
I assumed there were no cameras pointing to that spot anyway

I assumed there were no cameras pointing to that spot anyway.
Or there were and they didnt pick him up "Nothing was visually recorded".

ALL videos show light, also latest where the girls are in lobby dancing next to disco

What a coincidence that both of them are getting sick at the exact same time, yet neither of their friends seem as affected?
I don't think we can assume their friends weren't affected based on that short clip. After all, the video footage was specifically released to show the victim and the POI, not to show extended footage of each individual at the bar puking.

First of all, we have seen transcripts of police interviews with Josh and seen repeated videos from the hotel including very unflattering vomiting videos. We have seen and heard more than most bona fide investigations ever provide to the general public. Nothing seems to be off limits.
I’m skeptical that there is anything that hasn’t been laid out there.
We have seen attempts by either the investigators or the press to defame Josh.
They have said his story has changed three times which isn’t really true.
I think this is more likely a power play to place blame on a young American for a non-existent crime.
I think they have spent a week and a half now looking for ways to defame Josh further but they are coming up quite empty handed. The Dominicans are doing damage control for their tourism industry at the expense of a reportedly honorable and honest young gentleman.

The truth is that this is an extremely unpredictable and dangerous beach where others have been known to drown. Likely many others. We know about the four in January of this year but we haven’t been privy to the ones here and there that don’t make it into the news stories.
This all inclusive spring break 24 hour drinking culture is also dangerous.
Honestly disgusting that guests vomit close to the bar and aren’t cut off but continue to be served. It’s upsetting that the bartenders don’t cut them off the way a reputable establishment would.
The whole scenario was a recipe for disaster but not a crime.

I think that Josh will be given his passport tomorrow because I don’t think they have any evidence whatsoever to continue to hold him. I think he will fly out at his first opportunity- will likely take any flight he can get on back to the US. I don’t think he will ever set foot on that island again. I’m betting Josh will be out of the DR before midnight tomorrow.

All IMHO
Well golly, then this horrible whatever you call it, shouldn't even be investigated then.

"Now, a local source alleges her grieving parents Subbarayudu and SreeDevi submitted a formal written request to the National Police for a 'legal declaration of death."

"They also wrote that the young person last seen with their daughter, 22-year-old Joshua Riibe, has fully cooperated with police and believe there is no evidence of foul play, the insider said."

:BUMPING:

Actual details posted earlier....
good for review FWIW

eta snipped...

...Riibe said he was sleeping in his room when his friend asked him if he had seen Konanki, to which Riibe replied no.

"I thought she had gone to her room," he allegedly told police. "Her friends texted my friend since he had one of their numbers."

The Iowa man said his friends went to the beach the next day and found his "belongings" because he "never picked them up," other than a pair of shoes and a room key that he said "someone had stolen."
Bbm.
So I assume he checked in at the front desk and requested a replacement key card ?
And did not use his key card after that ?
Omo.

Well aware of how the law works. Video footage shows him completely inebriated and IMO far more than Sudiksha at the time of the video. If the visit to the beach came within a short time of bar footage…I don’t believe Josh was in a position to carry out what you’ve stated.

"The harrowing photos, showing what could potentially be Konanski's belongings, were sprawled across a sun lounger and sitting in the sand besides the leg of the chair.
Authorities confirmed to local media there were no signs of tampering with her belongings."

So this would then get the authorities off the hook and release the suspect, perhaps. Case closed.

This may be what the parents wish, a stop to the media attention, the talk, videos, and speculations. There MAY be a cultural aspect here.
Sudiksha is more than likely deceased. Very tragic, she had so much promise. May she rest in peace.

I'm thinking that her belongings (outer clothes & flip flops, not her phone though ?) were discovered on a beach lounger ?
So, not dragged or drifted further down the beach ?
Imo.
I see what you're saying, but my thinking is... if the waves had dragged her down the beach, she would have likely needed to walk back to where she left her things, not that her things had drifted

"The same resort saw four European tourists drown in one incident in January. Their remains were all recovered within 48 hours."
Three European tourists at the Riu Republica Hotel in Punta Cana were swept away and drowned on Jan. 17, while a fourth — a tourist from Russia — was hospitalized, Dominican Today said.

Only one of the bodies was recovered, the outlet reported.

It's the NY Post though.

eta, this is wrong, All were recovered, see below
Are we sure that was the same incident. One report said 4 people drowned. The other report said 3 drowned and one survived. Maybe it was 2 different incidents?

I am wondering if JR can have early phase of Korsakoff’s syndrome, alcohol-related memory loss related mostly to the deficiency of vitamin B1 (thiamine). In a way, alcohol-related brain impairment might start much sooner than Korsakoff’s, but confabulations are typical. It is remembering snippets of what had happened and the brain filling in the rest with “tales” to make a coherent story. Having thought about the case, I came to a conclusion that it could be what we might be seeing here. All i know is that alcohol-related cognitive impairment might start years before it is diagnosed.

Could Riibe be confabulating?

If JR really has a sort of memory loss/brain damage as a result of alcohol misuse, then this might explain why his story is always different/inconsistent. Though, it does not give him a defense, but this at least understandable.
IMHO

You couldn’t pay me to go to the Dominican Republic after this.
Places where authorities seize your passport and don’t return it in a timely manner (as in that same day) without just cause are both dangerous and corrupt.
Putting this young man under house arrest but not arrested without an iota of proof in his culpability for Sudiksha’s disappearance is abhorrent.
There should be a national travel ban against this place.
And hard earned tax dollars paid for Virginia authorities to FLY DOWN HERE and interview Josh in person. You can’t have a zoom meeting or talk to him stateside?
SMH.
This has become a ridiculous story.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
I’m sorry but a fully drunk person doesn’t make a good key witness for detailed memories - period.
His memories could be inaccurate or inadvertently fabricated (as others have pointed out) and are snippets of what has actually transpired at best.
I personally think Josh has been truthful to the best of his ability.
Theynbetter free Josh during the hearing tomorrow morning and let him fly home.
He must be fully traumatized by now and his parents (who don’t appear to be wealthy or particularly smart about protecting their son from being harassed) must be facing incredible costs for this circus that has ensued.
They are certainly fully traumatized now as well.
I can’t figure out why it’s taken Josh’s attorney so long to file for his release.
Now Josh will have missed a minimum of 1.5 weeks of college classes.
Hopefully he has access to a laptop in his hotel room and can do some work online.
It’s horrible that Sudiksha disappeared but this treatment of the “key witness” stinks.
How this Dominican government can continue to hold Josh is beyond my comprehension.
All imho
AGREE!!
One of my Best friends is there now and I asked him for updates but the language barrier for him has been a challenge.
Regardless, I feel for both her parents and for him.

I follow Noticias Sic which is the national news channel. Prosecutor and police did a reconstruction last night until about 2.30 or 3 a.m..

An appeal for Habeus Corpus has been made by R 's lawyers and will be deliberated tomorrow Tuesday by 2pm.

I'm understanding that the big sticking point is R's absence from any camera sighting between about 5 a.m

I'm assuming that he claimed to be asleep on the beach from 5 to 8 am? Are there any cameras covering that area of the beach that could pick up a guy sleeping in a chair?
something and 8 something when he was spotted by cameras again.

Will translate fully tomorrow, but inmeantime the article says all of the group went to the beach, 3 girls and a man (named) went back to hotel 40 minutes later. Apart from S and R.
Thank you for your future translation efforts. It's good to hear from reporters close to the action.

don't agree. He was obviously very drunk, she was obviously very drunk as well. He passed out immediately after vomiting sea water and probably alcohol.

*Allegedly.
