I don’t know what the outcome of today's hearing will be.

Even if it is an accidental drowning, there is the possibility that he could end up being charged with negligent homicide due to his actions after getting out of the water.

Here is an article that appeared in the Daily Mail discussing that mentioned the possibility that Joshua Riibe could be facing criminal charges.

Article 319 of the Dominican Republic penal code makes it a crime punishable by between three months and two years in prison for someone who ‘through clumsiness, negligence or failure to observe regulations, commits manslaughter.’

"The 22-year-old Iowa native -- who has not been charged with a crime -- said Konanki's family hugged him and thanked him.

"Her mother gave me a hug and said, 'Thank you for saving my daughter the first time,"' Riibe said in court Tuesday. "It was really tough.""

I have no words.

May Sudakshi's gracious parents have all the support possible, and that somehow they can come to terms with their loss and find peace.

If he isn't telling the truth and did something to her, I feel like all his versions/stories will have an "element" of truth in them somewhere...

I am uncomfortable with the last version of him being the 'hero' suddenly (some guilt?), I feel like I've heard this story before from those who have been guilty (trying to think of example but can't off the top of my head).

If his story didn't change to him adding the near death/hero part, I would have more faith of an accident.

They must have something on him or are highly suspicious to go to such lengths!

"Per colleague Greg Wehner, any time Riibe’s lawyer says something the government doesn’t like, “the lead prosecutor stands up and starts shouting, pointing his finger” at Riibe’s attorney.

I can't imagine that the D.R. would charge him with this.

Heartbreaking...
Gosh, I don’t cry a lot but this made me tear up. How painful it must be her for family.
I do agree that this was a terrible accident due to heavy drinking. And trust me, I’ve done my fair share of heavy drinking and many nights in my 20’s were spent blackout drunk with bits and pieces of what happened the night before. I’m lucky I survived my early adult life.

I hope the family can find some peace.

You know, if he took her by the hand and brought into the water for obvious reason and she said no, so he could just left her there, walked and never looked back, or if indeed the tide dragged her and he was afraid of asking for help, it is hard to understand how to judge it. “Using incapacitated state of the victim?” He was incapacitated himself.

Morally, there is some fault of his. Legally? Who knows.

Surely overserving minors in “all inclusive” falls on the barmen and if you do it, keep guards on the beach. So there is negative role of the resort culture, sorry.

I think that this is what DR tries to undo now.

I've been listening on Noticias SIC.
DR lawyer is very shouty. Argues that J was not detained against his will, volunteered his passport ( and I think he said phone). That J is a witness, not interrogated but questioned.

Its being done in Spanish but with English interventions
All very chaotic

I am stuck on his memory of tucking his key card in his shoes but then also being blackout drunk. I’m stuck on him being able to recall kissing SK but also being blackout drunk. I’m stuck on him being able to save her from a rogue wave and remember key details but also being blackout drunk.
My experience with blackout drunks is zero memory at all or only remembering things when someone who witnessed them fills them in on their drunken behavior.
I fear his story is wholly untrue in regards ro SK.
JMO
His actions after her disappearance are distancing. His language around her in general is distancing. His blames are always elsewhere and his concerns are on himself.
He also returns to the hotel alone with his shorts appearing to be inside out and his feet bare but very pale. So his shorts were off at some point but only SK’s coverup? When and why would he have removed his shorts. When did he put them back on? If he didn’t wear them swimming then presumably they would have been near his shoes and key card.
There are too many unanswered questions and the answers I have heard do not make sense.
They need to find her so so her parents can have closure and some questions can be answered.

link please?
Hi Trebor5591, I was quoting up-poster. I can't tell myself because the vid is too grainy.

Clumsiness? That sounds very odd as something that would be considered manslaughter IMO.
