Mark Sievers encouraged a friend of Teresa's to enter the Sievers' home and check on her the morning she was found dead, Hunter said.

"He realized what he was looking at on the floor of the kitchen was his friend, Dr. Sievers. As he stepped into the kitchen he noticed copious amounts of blood," Hunter said.

When the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrived to investigate her death, they did not find any evidence of burglary at the home. Hunter is talking about all the valuables left in the home after Teresa Sievers was killed.

Investigators found a hammer with hair and blood on it next to Teresa's Sievers body. An autopsy revealed injuries to Teresa's head consistent with a hammer, Hunter said.

The medical examiner could tell Teresa Sievers died as a result of being bludgeoned to death, Hunter said.

The sheriff's office gathered as much evidence and documented the crime scene as much as possible early on in the investigation, Hunter said.


"This truly was a mystery to the detective," Hunter said. There were no leads to start off the investigation.

"Mr. Sievers was up north with Dr. Sievers family in New York and Connecticut," Hunter said.


The whole Sievers family went to New York before Teresa was killed. It was a weekend of family fun, Hunter said.



"Mr. Sievers was thousands of miles away when Dr. Sievers passed away," Hunter said.
