In summary, the Rodgers trial is starting with jury selection today. It is expected to last five weeks in total. Sievers will be brought to the courthouse everyday during those five weeks and his case will be held as backup in case a resolution in the Rodgers case is reached fast

It looks like Jimmy Rodgers will be taking a plea deal. They are on recess until Rodgers attorney and the SA come to an agreement.

Jury selection is slated to begin any moment now. The court called 50 jurors up to begin. Adding tables for the defense team and making arrangements to get started. There's often a lull during this time.

Well so far KF said the plea offered was something they wouldn’t entertain. They denied the plea agreement and want to continue with trial. They are onto to Jury selection for JR. Jury selection for MS will begin on October 7th unless JR’s moves faster than to be expected. I would say it’s possible the state will come back with another deal still. JR’s case is moving forward first though, so we will see. A whole lot of Hurry up and Wait for the next 4-5 weeks..

The judge and assistant state attorneys are now discussing jury selection proceedings.

“There has been one offer and I reject that offer," Rodgers said when asked by the judge about potential plea deals.

LB...you are doing a fantastic job!!! So JRR's attorneys did broker a deal and their client turned it down. Well someone should tell JRR that one of the murderers already made the "big deal" and no one is going to hand you the same or better deal.

It’s interesting that so many are already being ruled out based on financial hardship. I am very curious how they decide who is effected enough to be dismissed, and who isn’t? Surely self employed would be highly impacted by losing wages for 5 weeks. Teachers on the jury would definitely impact the education system. So we are probably looking at a mostly upper class financially secure jury?

I’m a local and in my opinion, we have a lot of poverty here. A huge homeless community. The cost of living is high, and a large part of our community are self employed. We are also a tourism community and we are just getting back to season now. Most businesses struggle to stay open through the summer/fall.

SCALEX Great observations....government workers, postal employees, or senior citizen /retired/disabled (thinking carpel tunnel surgery? ). And, with the assistance of Ms. Google, also found out you can draw "unemployment benefits" even if you are serving on a jury or required to be a witness. So, no additional hardship if you miss out on job hunting....sounds fair to me.

I'm semi local (Sarasota) and its either going to be retired, unemployed, or someone with a very lenient employer. If it was a month later, it would be snowbirds in the mix.... Most people cannot afford to miss 5 weeks of work.
