"This case is going to take five weeks." A sigh from several jurors. This is where potential jurors disclose any plans, financial hardships, or caretaker issues. We lost about 20 per jury pool to this yesterday. #trialtweets #jimmyrodgersontrial #teresasievers #nbc2courtcoverage

Employers don't have to pay employees in the state, so financial hardship can be an issue for a lot of potential jurors. The judge considers that while deciding if someone can be stricken for cause. #trialtweets #jimmyrodgersontrial #teresasievers #nbc2courtcoverage

Twenty-five potential jurors were just released because of financial hardships they would face by serving on the jury.

Plus one more. That leaves 26 potential jurors in this group. They are being asked if they know anything about the case at this point.

About half of the remaining 26 potential jurors raised their hands when asked if they have prior knowledge of the case or knew of the suspects/victims.

It looks like it will take another group of around 50 new potential jurors after this one to get to the next phase of jury selection with a group of 60 jurors.

15 people raised their hand saying they know of Sievers, Rodger, or the case. (That's more than half remaining.) Remember, knowing about the case doesn't mean you can't serve. They'll inquire more. #trialtweets #jimmyrodgersontrial #teresasievers #nbc2courtcoverage

Here’s a big question for potential jurors. Have you heard of the Teresa Sievers murder trial? Right now, 15 people out of the 26 left raised their hand. @winknews #RodgersTrial

Our first juror of the day was just excused because of prior knowledge he had about the case. It's important to note that jurors are not being excused just because they have heard about the case and/or the victims/suspects.

Ugh. Save everyone time and convict. They are guilty as hell.

The potential jurors are being asked if they could decide the cased based on only everything brought forward during the trial. If they say they could set aside everything they heard, saw or read about the case beforehand they are not being excused.

Having heard about a case previously is not a reason that a juror would be excused, especially with today's modern communication technology, said Assistant State Attorneys Cynthia Ross.

What's important is the juror could put aside what they've heard and only make a decision based on only the evidence they hear while in court, Ross said.
