Emergency meeting called at Buckingham Palace in London

I tend to agree.

But I worked as an executive admin and I was given all "inside" information before official announcements went out. Some of it was out of respect for me as I supported the exec's and some was out of necessity so I could assist in helping the rest of the staff with questions etc.

So I can see them being told before an official 8 am announcement if that is the case.

They could schedule the announcement for whenever they like. They don't have to rush everyone in at 3am so they're ahead of an 8am meeting.

A palace worker has poured cold water on speculation after an "emergency meeting" was apparently called at Buckingham Palace.
"I haven't been told anything, so as far as I'm aware the Queen and the Duke are very much alive," a staff member who answered the phone to Stuff said.

But he said he was unable to contact press officers who could provide official confirmation.

Speculation has been mounting after the Daily Mail published a report saying staff from as far away as Balmoral in Scotland had been called to London for the meeting. It said the request was made by "the Queen's most senior aides", and a meeting would take place today.

Would they do this if the Crown Jewels were discovered stolen or missing?

Lots of hysterical speculation about a Buckingham Palace announcement. There *is* a meeting today. But it's not -as some say- due to a death

Russia reporting...

Prince Philip died but who knows whats official news over there.

Mystery figure SPOTTED on Buckingham Palace roof ahead of ‘unscheduled meeting’

A PERSON has been spotted on the roof of Buckingham Palace next to its flagpole, further feeding speculation of the nature of this morning’s emergency meeting.

This is getting bizarre.

And a royal reporter saying it doesn't sound like a death and that Lord Chamberlin calls meetings with all staff from time to time.

But at 3am?

The Lord Chamberlain is addressing all staff, something he does once a year and occasionally at other times. Rare but not unprecedented.

Buckingham Palace isn't commenting but it doesn't sound like this is about a royal death.

If it's a meeting of the household staff, either the Queen or Prince Philip have died or its something completely mundane like the roof is leaking at Buckingham and they need to start moving artifacts to other residences. That's all I can think of.

Good night.

Regardless of what this turns out to be, or not to have been, the Guardian's recent long read about royal protocol is well worth your time:

'London Bridge is down': the secret plan for the days after the Queen’s death
---
For many years the BBC was told about royal deaths first, but its monopoly on broadcasting to the empire has gone now.

When the Queen dies, the announcement will go out as a newsflash to the Press Association and the rest of the world’s media simultaneously. At the same instant, a footman in mourning clothes will emerge from a door at Buckingham Palace, cross the dull pink gravel and pin a black-edged notice to the gates. While he does this, the palace website will be transformed into a sombre, single page, showing the same text on a dark background.

But its not just household staff, its all royal staff?
