I get your point, sherri, and it's a good one.

My only follow-up thought is this: Is it truly vain to use the name of God (or His Son) in satire to get the world to look at those who really take His name in vain (ie - the "stars" who thank Jesus profusely at the awards podium, but live lives in direct and public contrast to everything He stood for and preached)?

Perhaps Ms. Griffin's comments weren't made in vain at all.

And, of course, only God could make that final determination for only He truly knows what was in her heart.

Maybe something's wrong with me, but I willfully admit that I am gleeful when the powerful get publically spanked and horrified when the powerless get publically spanked.

Of course, who's powerful and who's powerless remains open to interpretation!

(except in her act) she claims she "won't **** with the jews, lesbians or Barbara Walters"....although, i've seen her mess w/Barbara Walters on The View, lol....during one entire show she was guest host on, she kept saying "i wanna talk about the fight betw Rosie & Elizabeth".....out of blue while talking about issues of the day, she would just pop out & say "i wanna talk about the fight betw Rosie & Elizabeth":)....ALL THRU THE SHOW...
.....i thought BW was gonna blow a gasket, but she took it all in stride pretty good, lol.........

Speaking of Steven Wright, he came to our college campus about 15yrs ago. He left the stage when someone started heckling him....just politely turned around and left the stage right in the middle of his act!!:eek: (needless to say, people where not happy!)

Regarding people thanking God for winning awards, the Bible tells us we are to credit God for all good things that happen to us, for we are nothing without Him. He gets the glory for our blessings. That's why I say "praise the Lord" so much, He is to get the credit, not ourselves. So I think it's very appropriate to be thanking Him for success. It doesn't necessarily mean He chose them to win a statue, but He gave them the abilities and talent to win, certainly. Are some who thank Him hypocrites? Maybe. But we should remove the plank from our own eyes before trying to remove the speck from theirs.

wow!...most comedians know how to put hecklers "in their place", so to speak.....hmmm...(well, except for what's his face "Kramer")

yeah, a good comedian is primed & ready for hecklers, i would think....i've seen a couple at Zanies waaaay back in the day when we would go there, & the comic could say something 'stabbing', yet funny, & the heckler would just shut up.....if the heckler was drunk & being obnoxious, they'd be shown the door....like i said, a good comedian knows how to handle hecklers, imo....

Totally true - I've seen shows that were funnier because of the way a comedian handled a heckler. If you're a pro, you gotta know how to do that.

Or if you're respected enough they won't even try. Take George Carlin for example. I saw him live a few weeks ago during my bachelor party in Las Vegas. No one dared try. He probably would have slayed them.
