I would imagine facial recognition software is being run on all photos / videos and crosschecked against known terrorist suspects...

Just as a matter of interest, this is how the Vancouver PD set about reviewing videos to find the perps in the 2011 Vancouver riots:

Investigators also took all their video evidence to a one-of-a-kind multimedia lab at the University of Indianapolis equipped to process large volumes of video data.

There, they teamed up with Fredericks and a “response team” of about 50 forensic video experts from Canada, the U.S. and Britain.

For two weeks, the analysts converted each piece of video into a standard format and then “tagged” the evidence by assigning numeric codes to each suspect based on their physical characteristics, such as the type and colour of clothing they were wearing.

Once all the codes were entered into a video management system, investigators could return to Vancouver and query the system to see if a person suspected of committing a crime at one location might also have popped up at other locations that same night.

The same method of cataloguing video data could be used in the Boston case, Fredericks said.

ok guys this one is definitely interesting for me....
the person who uploaded approx 100 pics to flickr has all the photos in sequential order from before the bombing to after the bombing.. after studying the last 5 or 6 photos before the bombing this guy has leapt out at me..

in the first photo he blatantly has a backpack over his shoulder.. in the second photo he has moved down slightly by about 20 metres and he doesnt have a backpack on.. directly behind him in the second shot is the guy with grey hair who was photographed injured in the daily mail and also the blonde woman.

Can you see the strap on his other shoulder, or just the one closest to the camera?
That *looks like*, it could be a camera strap... rather than a backpack strap.
He may have moved it to the other side in the second picture. I am always moving mine... drives me nuts. :twocents:

Wait! In the second picture, there is a woman directly to the right.
Through the middle of her chest it looks like she may have taken the camera/bag from him.
Look at the straps... they are similar. She also appears to be looking at/talking to him.

He also appears likely to be with someone else, looks like he is holding 2 other coats.
My guess is that he's a father there with kid(s).

interesting points in here...

IS THIS THE BOMBER? Man With Black Backpack Before Bombing – Then Without Backpack Moments Before Blast

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/201...g-then-without-backpack-moments-before-blast/
The following link was given at the above site:

http://directorblue.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/photos-suspect-has-large-black-backpack.html

The photos are a little clearer and they're cropped. I'm not sure that his backpack is black, though. It looks blue to me, and the police have recovered black evidence.

tbh, the guy bending down close to the detonation site is much more interesting to me.

If you look at the gateway pundit link, he's very close to the orange 'approximate detonation site' circle. He's in the same position in the "Young men with backpacks in crowd" photo as well.

I just found this link. At this stage the FBI has only confirmed ONE pressure cooker bomb.

One of the two bombs used in the Boston Marathon attacks used a pressure cooker, the FBI said in a Joint Intelligence Bulletin.

The second device, the agency said, was housed in a metal container, "but currently there is insufficient evidence to determine if it was also a pressure cooker," the bulletin said.
The alert also said the fuzing system and method of initiation for the two devices are unknown.

I'm interested in this lone guy's demeanour or lack of it .. to the left of the screen on pics 3131 through 3140, green coat, khaki/beige pants. All through the horror of those initial moments, while everyone else is either helping, running, panicking, etc ... he just hangs there, looking towards the scene almost as if he's studying or mesmerized by the event. Starting at pic 3131:

Oops ... don't know how to get the link to work for some reason. Will try to fix it.

Hope this one works:

The person in the blue circle is a teen- seems to be with Mom- and looking at his very white (new?) shoes. and he does not have a backpack- that is Mom's arm with bag and navy coat.

He's only looking down in one picture, so imo it's not important. His hand is at his face in the shot where he's looking down - maybe he sneezed?

Anyone who has had a bad photo taken (uh, I think I have an album full of them) knows that a split second can be captured REALLY effectively, lol.

Just throwing this out here I don't know anything about bombs, but the stuff to make the bomb was it purchased at a store? Could they get video tapes from stores to see if the items where purchased there to make the bomb? And would lead to a suspect maybe or suspects. Just an idea.

Hi laura08,
Unfortunatley, the substances required to make a homemade bomb are readily available anywhere. I've seen the talking heads say that you could buy everything you need to make a bomb like this at home depot.
The best we can hope is that this 🤬🤬🤬 was dumb enough to buy all the ingredients in one place, and that he he paid with a credit card. There was an aspiring terrorist busted a couple years ago, iirc, because he bought a whole lot of hydrogen peroxide all at once. He was planning on bombing the nyc subway system.

So I fell asleep last night looking through some threads on 4chan (I know, I know) and reddit that were trying to armchair analyze marathon crowd photos. I've come to the conclusion that its really not going to do any good. Much of the analysis is racist (anyone with brown skin, and, god forbid, a backpack, is circled or highlighted for being "suspicious"), and there are just too many unknowns, too many folks with bags/packs, etc. Boston is a diverse city, there are folks from all over the world in town living, visiting, etc, on any given day, nevermind marathon day, which is an international event.

I am not trying to diminish what folks here were doing overnight. But like another poster, I worry about picking out folks who are most likely innocent spectators.

Closing my post with something that made me laugh. Someone on reddit cross posted a pic from 4chan that had been marked up to show some "suspicious" looking brown skinned guys (never mind that they look more Indian than they do Arab, but whatever). So some witty person took the originak and mocked it up with his own interpretations of "suspicious" looking people lol, including an alien!

The bag has got to be big enough to hold a pressure cooker... so it would be awfully tight if not impossible to fit in a college sized backpack. An athletic style 2 handle duffle bag or tote?

There are different sized pressure cookers. The smaller ones, like a cheap one from Family Dollar, are about the size of a large coffee can. Around 2 quart pot size.

ETA: If Inoko brand is hard to find, wonder if LE can check all ebay or other online sites for the last few months for pressure cooker sales, also any local thrift shops. Not sure thrift shops keep that good of a record of items sold though.

ETAA: Lol, scratch Inox or Inoko or whatever, just saw that is not the brand. (I'm obviously catching up, slowly.)

That is pretty funny. I don't have a problem with profiling at all but at this point I think the bomber is probably a lone wolf white guy.

I wanted to share 2 of the Twitter search links I've been using. They each give you tweets only from reporters, producers, news stations, LE, etc.

You can open them in a separate tab or window, and when you see a message at the top of the list saying e.g. "3 New Tweets", just click the message, and the new tweets will show.

The first one was made by Matthew Keys, and the second one was made by the Boston Globe.

I can't stop seeing the photos of the victims in my head. My heart is so heavy for the families of those lost and for the ones who live with the scars of this attack.

Prayers for all.
