I mean googling the Dr brought up his Linkedin account, that's all anyone at the Globe needed to do, to find out that what they were saying was inaccurate. Just a simple search, but they didn't even do that. It gives me a lot less confidence in anything else they write.

To the assertion that Harvard MD's are a dime a dozen, I think that applies to ****** reporters as well. I live in Cambridge, my husband is a PhD candidate,we know many Harvard and MIT alum and I will agree that they aren't gods, but to discount a doctor because "Several friends' husbands MD's from Harvard." is just dumb. One may not be impressed but we don't know what kind of a doctor he is. I am unwilling to take the word of a known liar and reporters who don't know what google is.

All IMHO of course. (just obnoxious)

I live in a major metropolitan city. Familiar with Boston Children's, as well as Connecticut's top hospitals and more.

Several friends' husbands MD's from Harvard...So what? Dime a dozen in major metro areas and top hospitals.

He's affiliated with Harvard & at Boston Children's Hospital...and he erred.

They're not all gods bc they're employed by Boston Children's Hospital or affiliated with Harvard.

MOO

(epiphany: an ha-ha moment; atheist here)

What does being an atheist have to do with anything?

I highly doubt a mistake was made. Justina is far better today than when her mother brought her to Children's.

Her parents behavior has been outrageous and harmful to their child's well being. That much is obvious to me.

All IMO

She is most certainly not far better today.
She can't walk at all.
Short time prior to going to BCH she could ice skate.

He's not discounted bc he's affiliated with Harvard & Boston Children's Hospital.

However, being affiliated with Harvard & working for Boston Children's Hospital does not earn any physician or employee a free pass.

Again...Harvard & Boston Children's Hospital: so what?

Exactly...What do positions on gun laws and references to tin hats have to do with the Justina Pelletier case?

Nothing.

When her mother brought her to Boston's Children's Hospital, she could NOT walk!

No matter how many times an attempt is made to rewrite history...the FACT remains she wasn't WALKING WHEN SHE GOT THERE!

She didn't SKATE into Children's Hospital.

Her mother believed Justina's situation was so DIRE she had her brought, via ambulance, during freaking BLIZZARD!
She couldn't EAT, she feared she would CHOKE to death because she was unable to SWALLOW, she was talking gibberish and slurring, and she couldn't WALK!!!!

Huge improvement was made.
It should be obvious.

Don't know what the issue or agenda is to continually claim she was skating? Or to perpetuate such nonsense that she isn't far better today....when compared to her when she arrived at Children's.
???????

No huge improvement was made...The Boston Globe:

...She had not been getting much better in DCF care, and her mobility appears worse, as the teen who once walked easily now relies on a wheelchair.

While Justina appears to be eating well and she speaks clearly — something that wasn’t true when she entered Children’s — she hasn’t had anything approaching the turnaround clinicians hoped for.

Boston Children's Hospital erred.

It seems that certain "facts" even when presented with information that runs counter to them, are unshakable.

Did she arrive back at her parents home via ambulance?
Is there any fear of her choking to death?
Is she still speaking gibberish?
Can she eat now?

This is getting ridiculous ...

The question to me is when did she get better and was it treatment for somataform that made her "better". Some symptoms improve on their own and are temporary. Did it really take her sixteen months to get this little improvement?

Of course if there was a real trial we would have testimony as to her ability to skate prior to her episode. However, child services dropped the case two months before the required trial to terminate parental rights. Up to now there have only been hearings and the parents would have be given limited opportunity to call witnesses and question them.

When she arrived at BCH, she had complications from the flu. It wasn't her permanent state.
She didn't have a feeding tube when she arrived at BCH. So she was eating on her own prior to arriving.
Weeks prior to arriving she could ice skate.
Now she is not walk.
As for speaking gibberish, yes, it appears she still does it every now and then, based on the video of her posted on youtube.

Her mobility is certainly worse since she can not walk at all.

Who said it required 16 months?
The length of time it took to get her home was her parents doing.

I take issue with "little improvement"
She hasn't needed hospitalization for a VERY long time.

The state wasn't required to have a termination of parental rights trial.

Yes the state, the doctors at Connecticut Children's Hospital, Boston's Child's Hospital, her pediatrician, a few doctors at Tufts, the judge, DCF, the guardian ad litem, and the judge all came together in a vast conspiracy because the parents are annoying.
Yep, that's what happened.

Judge very clear does whatever CPS tells him to do. Look how quickly he changed his tune. Parents are still the same ones they were all this time.

The entire situation was turned into a political hot potato and a three ring circus. The picketers.. Media interviews. Justina was aware of all of that.

That's not healthy for her.

It became a balancing act.

They did all they could do, put a coordinated team in place and shipped her out of Massachusetts and closed their case.

Smart move. IMO

That's what DFS does.

The state filed for termination of parental rights. That is what the state files when they want custody. They then have eighteen months to have a trial. This is so the child does not remain in limbo for the rest of their childhood. No, they are not required to have the trial. They have the option as in this case to drop it when they determine there is not enough evidence for determination.

no I do not think it took sixteen months to get the improvement she got, as she got over the flu she probably showed improvements. I do not think psychiatric help is what gave her that minimal help. And if psychiatric help is not what gave her those improvements then we can certainly question the need to insist the parents only treat so somataform a condition of getting her back. The parents have a duty to care for their daughter and they were being told not to treat her for a physical Illness a doctor diagnosed her with. Child services put them in a precarious situation where all their choices would cause their child pain.

if this child was inappropriately and dangerously treated medically then the anger and frustration should be directed towards her parent a appointed doctors. Her parents are not doctors and should not be expected to know which doctor is correct. Child services is also not to be expected to know which opinion is correct. Child services needs to focus it's attention to cases where the abuse is evidence based, not subjective opinion of some doctors. A difference in opinion between licensed doctors should not be just cause for a child's removal.

No "vast conspiracy" in the Justina Pelletier Case.

Boston Children's Hospital, DCF and the Judge were wrong in this case, and according to The Boston Globe:

The battle over Justina’s future was one of five cases involving Children’s in the last 18 months where a disputed diagnosis led to parents losing custody or being threatened with that extreme step. These conflicts, which typically involve controversial diagnoses at the medical frontier, have exposed the consequences of the ongoing failure to upgrade medical expertise within the state’s Department of Children and Families. The agency, many observers believe, is simply not equipped to properly referee such cases.
