Family, under pressure, removes its hanged dummy

No. Still tacky, gory, and inappropriate.

IMHO, of course. Just call me Miss Manners. :innocent:

I'm with you. It's all tacky and gory!!

GREAT post Ziggy! I think you are right on track with this post!!!
 I love Bill too. He is a smart man with a lot of good things to say besides being sooo funny. :D

I totally agree!! I know a lot of people that have come here from Mexico and they can't believe how people just throw away opportunities here. They have every opportunity to make something of their lives and they throw it away. They would give their right arm for these opportunities given freely by being born in America.

Isn't that the truth!?!?! It boggles my mind. :(

food for thought.

according to the US Population Survey and the National Committee on Pay Equity, the median salary for white women is 76.7% that of the median salary of white men.
For black men, it is 74.5% of white men.
For black women, it is 68.4% of white men.
For Hispanic men, it is 63.2% of white men.
For Hispanic women, it is 56.9% of white men.

This is one of the studies I was thinking of as well. Thank you!

OKay I'll throw fuel on the fire. Maybe they just don't like rap music and the hip hop culture. Don't they have a right to free speech? I personally know some older black folks in the South that hate how the new generation represent themselves for the most part. To be well-spoken and educated is to act too white etc. They fought for that right to equal education and the youngsters just throw it away.

I'm growing a little weary of people not being allowed to be "offensive" here. This is NOT what free speech is about. We have become so PC that we are trashing our constitution. I would never agree to people being offensive, but a hurt feeling or being offended should not be a crime and when brought to the public's attention, the greater majority will stigmatize those who have offended and they will suffer in other ways. We are teaching people to be so thin skinned and have the entitlement mentality. The government just LOVES that. More sheep to lead to the slaughter.

I would hope clear thinking people could rationalize that a Halloween decoration is not a threat to a certain race of people. Come on now. This is like the Ellen dog thing - everyone is thinking with their emotions and not their brains.

For the record I have black people in my family (along with Jewish people and a few Muslims) and I am not a racist. I do feel that Bill Cosby is on the right track and that freedom from oppression lies in taking advantages of this country and becoming all that you can be as a black American - ignore that chip on your shoulder for a moment and move forward.

Excellent! Free speech means some are going to be offended. A thicker skin and mellower brain will fix the problem...

Ziggy, an excellent post!!! Perspective in living life is being lost due to all the politically correctness...who decided how we should live, enjoy, and laugh anyway? This is a clique I will never desire to be part of. Ever.

Shoot me for swearing, drinking, decorating my home with skulls and bones, wearing my clothes too tight, and my children (let alone my *past* history) sleeping with others unmarried. I haven't been to Church in I do not know how long, I vote as I choose to, I do NOT like rap, but love a tune from Nine Inch Nails. Thank goodness I live as I am and where I am. Thank goodness I have family who are Muslim, Catholic, and Agnostic. They all love me and others. There is sooooo much more I could share, but I would take up too much space! LOL!

All stated in my *very* humble opinion!!! :)

Great post Ziggy! A couple of years ago, I caught my kids walking out of the house wearing droopy pants. I told him to go upstairs and find a belt! Though I wasn't a snappy dresser as a teen (I think I wore a Motley Crue T-shirt 3 times a week...) I'm not about to let me kids walk out like that. And my teen boys are white!

Really? Your neighbors have Halloween decorations with guns and bottles of pills and knives?

I'd be looking to relocate.

ETA: I DO donate to a suicide prevention group. Being upset and volunteering are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah - the "superhero costumes" have guns, my daughter dressed up as Hannibal Lecter and had bones and knives. I don't think I have seen a pill bottle decoration, no. It doesn't change the fact that you see pill bottles on display all over the counters of WalMart though - somewhere, some kid died from an overdose of something that is displayed in full view in the grocery store, too. Life happens to everyone differently. You can't ask everyone to change their life so that you can live in a sterile environment where nothing you see upsets you.

Okay, so you can ask. Everyone does. The problem lies in that everyone asks for something different. Perfect example is the room my daughter was in in the hospital (behavior center) where there was nothing that could hurt or offend, or be used to hurt anyone or yourself. A white room, white sheets, white bed and a white desk. Nothing else, no pictures, nothing. Donna got upset that the walls were white.

There was NOTHING to be upset about in the whole room - yet in an empty room with only one person in it, SOMETHING was STILL there to be upset about.

Life isn't supposed to be a cakewalk. Cakewalks are supposed to be cakewalks.

They sort of did that in the movie Demolition Man with Sly Stalone. Everyone in that particular society was just a giant wuss because everything was banned. I don't want to live in a place like that.

Thank you. I haven't seen the movie, but I think I'll preview it to see if it will benefit my daughter. She's got to learn that she's not the center of the universe that everyone should work hard to please.

(Yes, I raised her to be the center of MY universe, but I neglected to mention not everyone is her mother and would love her unconditionally! What a harsh smack in the face that was to find it out!):slap:

exactly!! all sorts of people have been hanged throughout history for all sorts of right and wrong reasons. but suddenly,, the blacks now 'own' the noose. i can kinda see their point about the confederate flag..... but now this, among other things,, and what's next? it's gotten to the point where they censor our every word, move, and form of expression.. we have to keep our mouths shut.. meanwhile they continue to get bolder and cruder and more thuggish, walking around with pants hanging off their asses, and '🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬' this and '🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬' that... saying whatever they want in rap noise and considering it justified... cursing at us and threatening us,, just to see if we will cower in fear... because it's not socially acceptabe for us to stand up to them, so they take full advantage of that. well i am over it.

reb, I'm sure we've all noticed how you are unable to express yourself.

Personally, I'm opposed to the protest discussed here because (a) as many have pointed out, hanging isn't specific to the treatment of African Americans, and (b) Halloween is supposed to be a time of "inappropriate" behavior (within limits, surely, but this isn't where I'd draw the line).

But to claim this protest is one more example of how the "Black Man keeps the White Man down" is ridiculous. It would be laughable if it weren't apparent that some people believe it.

Yes, I've gotten quite shy and reserved myself lately. :D Isn't that a WSer trait???:innocent:

I have a question that I don't think was answered in the original article or anywhere else:

Were all of the people who complained about this African-Americans? Were there people of other races who said, "That's just tacky. Could you please take it down?" Because, as I said in an earlier post, while I wouldn't have called the police, I would have asked a neighbor to remove such a thing for being in poor taste. If they said no, I'd have accepted it and chalked it up to their insufficient manners and upbringing. :loser:

If there had been white neighbors who also complained, would that make all of you screaming about "the race card" feel any differently?

Luckily, this is one time when my HOA is worth a flip. Our neighborhood goes all out for Halloween, but nothing like this would ever fly! It's fun and for the kids. No pink houses, and no hangings in effigy. :hand:

Halloween is macabre....and that's all this is, just a display of a darker side.
Once a year we can do this and not be considered freaks. It is human nature to have a fascination with the gruesome aspects of life (or death in this case). Just look at how many of us are on WS and usually want to know all of the gory details.
Why over analyze? If you don't like it, don't particpate. It's that easy.

btw, they STILL hang people in the Middle East for their atrocities...the noose is not particulary anyone's....

it would be like me being offended by fire....whatever.....people are too damned sensitive...

Just enjoy Halloween and all of it's spooky stuff!
