And it shouldn't be. That was an entirely preventable error.

There are now regulations in place to prevent decimal errors. Not entirely foolproof, as we have seen with the Heparin labeling problem where lower and higher concentrations in purchased vials both had a blue band on the label that was easily confused if one did not actually stop and read the darn label. The manufacturer was actually very resistant to making the change so the labels were completely different and could not be confused at a glance.

And there will still be mistakes. But altering the record is not acceptable.

Agree that heparin mess was bad. I seem to remember potassium bearing a bright yellow cap and part of the label. Later saw what I guessed were cheaper forms that looked a lot like saline. Shudders! I know there were times where I caught myself not looking at the label but rather looking through it, sort of robotic, IYKWIM. My nose always worked on liquid oral meds. Caught meprobamate instead of Tagamet in one bottle! Oh and NTG paste given to mom and applied as diaper cream (not by me thanks God). Shudders again.

Okay, I'm also local to Children's- Oakland is about 40. min. away from me, and I can tell you around the East Bay- Children's is NOT highly respected.

This is an inaccurate generalization. I live less than 2 miles from OCH, and I have heard nothing but positive and highly respective comments from people here and from miles around. JMO And JMO that most of the blanket statements in general are what is causing so much drama around this case.

I think it's important to remember that the Violation of Privacy / Religious Rights suit filed in Federal Court on Friday is for monetary damages to be awarded to the family, AND for Mr. Dolan's fees to be paid.

Let's not forget the motive for that one.

Thanks was not enough

Dolan wants paid by CHO - who's in this for $$$$$$$$/compensation ?!

This is no longer about being sensitive to the family because the family has stated that they are interested in pursuing a 30 million dollar lawsuit against the hospital. That statement changes the relationship between the family and the hospital from patient care to a legal discussion. Furthermore, a family that goes to the media to discuss how much money they hope to get, stating that $250,000 is "chump change", is likewise very insensitive regarding the deceased patient. Why is the hospital expected to be emotionally sensitive to a family that views their deceased child in terms of "chump change" or winning the lottery.

The mother said that she asked the hospital to do a brain scan. When the media asked about the results, she said she didn't yet have the information. She has that now. What did the brain scan reveal? The mother has all the information she needs and she seems to understands it. Each time it was confirmed that the child is deceased, the mother looks to another reason to prolong this dispute. Now, we have the lawyer referring to religion and asking whether the story about Jesus is a bed time story. Of course it's a bed time story. What does that have to do with the fact that a 13 year child stopped breathing a month ago? Now that there is absolute scientific proof that the child is dead, the family turns to religion and is seeking some sort of religious reason to artificially sustain a dead body. Perhaps it's time to update the Bible to include a chapter about how Jesus was hooked up to a ventilator before he was brought back from the dead.

I don't mean to come across rude... So forgive me if it does :)

But if my son died in this manner and I was suing $250,000 would be chump change for the cost of my sons life, and I'd probably say that like they have, money will never make this easier for them but being compensated for something that the family felt was preventable, will soften the blow

Wow! That's an eye opener. The uncle said that this is all about going for a 30 million dollar lawsuit versus a $250,000 award ("chump change" per the uncle). I guess there's no question about why this is dragging on. I get the impression that the family believes that the longer they can drag it out, the better their chances of getting the $30 million.

I thought he was talking about his perception of the hospital's motives in wanting to shut Jahi's ventilator down. 250.000 dollars is chump change to them but they wouldn't want to pay millions.

Does dragging this out make any difference to the lawsuit aspect at this point? She was already a coroner's case when this video was made, from the mother's comments. So I don't really see how disconnecting the ventilator or not disconnecting it would make any difference as to the amount of money there is at stake. As long as there is a legal death certificate the child is dead in the eyes of the courts, isn't she? She won't be considered alive just because the family chooses to keep her on a ventilator indefinitely.

Thanks to Uncle Omar's big mouth, we now know the amount demanded in damages for the Violation of Privacy / Religious Beliefs lawsuit filed in federal court on Friday.

How much is Dolan think he is entitled to of that $30 million, over and above his fees. Isn't it usually at least 50%?

That's what I love about computer documentation.

create, add, modify - no deletion option available

yep! it's all contained in the system who what when why

Didn't we establish by his Twitter photos that he was in Cabo the day this happened and not a witness at the bedside?

His comments are hearsay, and would not be considered an independent observation.

wow - thanks, I did not realize this :blushing:

and he's the "family spokesperson" this side of Dolan

Then I think you have a different opinion than most all healthcare providers in northern California and northern Nevada

and most of the population that would use this fine facility

She's lied several times..... for example, she said Jahi was going in for a "routine surgery". This was NOT just a routine surgery.

Maybe someone on here can tell you all the lies she/this family has told because there is just too many.

jmo.

I have thought to start documenting a timeline but with all the family's disparate comments & no knowledge of the medical record, it would be a waste of time IMHO

The MSM is not helping either

Well this ought to be interesting.........

Cue filing for an open-ended TRO while New Beginnings finishes building their facility.

Their FB page says nothing about this so far.

Thank goodness! Get Jahi out of there NOW! Although I won't believe it until it actually happens.

And TOS says we are NOT to bash the family. They are victims.

not in my humble opinion - they lost the distinction of "victims" once they starting asking "us" for $$$$$$$$$$

IMHO Jahi was the victim when she had a soul on this plane

So what on earth was the point of first announcing that she will go to New Beginnings, then refusing to disclose the facility, then announcing that she will go to New Beginnings?

  • #617
Who cares where the uncle was while the surgery was performed? How is that relevant in the least???
He's not at fault. In my firm Opinion, Children's is!

IMHO because the uncle is speaking as if he was at the facility when all this happened. Continuing the chaos IMHO

Would imagine so. Also platelets?

She may have been crossed prior to surgery or at least typed. packed cells rather than refrigerated whole blood unless fresh whole blood with fresh clotting factors was/is available (doubtful!) would be an asset but building up her "blood volume" with fluids would be mandatory.

The agency records (ALL OF THEM, not just the EMR!) will be valuable for a variety of reasons: TJC (JCAHO for we old timers!) requires a full evaluation & root cause analysis and I'm "assuming" that the Ca dept of health will also.

OMGoodness...There is SO much misunderstanding or whatever on the part of the mother regarding heartbeat & pulse...and the toss into the fray the uncle's $$$$ comments...chump change is $250,000???

Yeah, there is no "misunderstanding".

The family knows what the real deal is (Jahi "is an asset"), and the MEDIA especially knows what the real deal is -- ratings!

Disgusting, the whole thing. The word "undignified" doesn't begin to describe it.

So they are taking her out of the hospital to a construction site run by a hairdresser, how is that even an option for someone they lovingly claim is alive.....why is this hospital, its drs, and nurses being bashed and blamed allowed with no proof..
