Family wants to keep life support for girl brain dead after tonsil surgery #5

Issued a death certificate more promptly, asserted its responsibilities when the hospital was stating that they couldn't release Jahi to another facility without consent from the coroner's office (after which there was silence from that office while several appeals were filed until the certificate was FINALLY issued a few days ago whereupon CHO was able to agree to release Jahi's remains) and made it clear to the family and the media that under the laws of California Jahi has been dead since 12/12/13.

The question of Jahi's death after multiple confirmations should never have been CHO's battle to fight, IMO.

Thanks. This is such a sick, twisted situation. Why this family would want to hang onto the body of their dead child is mind boggling. I'm thinking back to what happened with my father. I was in Europe when he passed away, but he died at home. He was Buddhist, so first someone came to the home to perform the end of life rituals. Then the funeral home brought the casket to the house and he was laid in the casket. He was at home for three days, then the funeral home came to collect the casket, and there was a graveside funeral. There was no autopsy or embalming.

I can understand that the body could be released to the family for a specified amount of time, but there must be a time limit on that. It's simply not normal for people to keep their deceased relatives at home and I can't imagine that the coroner would authorize the family to simply keep the body for as long as they want. There are serious health issues associated with not burying or cremating a body.

"Short vid released by family of brain-dead teen #JahiMcMath shows caravan w/ #Falck ambulance SB 880 at Fruitvale in Oakland to points unkn"

There is an onramp to 880 at Fruitvale BUT if she was going to Oakland Airport from CHO you would get on 24 which joins 880 southbound.

Going from the Coroner's office you would join 880 at somewhere near 4th and Webster.

You then get off 880 at Hegenberger Road for the airport (I've spent many an hour at the Muni golf course there-ugh!).

You DON'T drive from the coroner's office through Oakland to Fruitvale (the roads are absolutely dreadful in Oakland) and THEN get on 880 to get off in a matter of a couple of minutes to get to the airport.

So she MUST still be in CA. But probably not at the family residence as Oakland doesn't go much further south, unless maybe they live in San Leandro.

Where is the body now? Is it at the family home ... or do we not really know?

How long can a dead body be kept in a private home?

I don't think anyone really knows. There was a news report that she is at home, and the lawyer now says she is at a "facility". :dunno:

Hi everyone  --- I see CHO released the body. Catching up with the details now.

I think the lawyer is posturing, waiting a day or two, and then he'll step up and declare that the dead child is dead again. He knows that the child was dead on Dec 12. As an ambulance chaser, he has tried to mislead everyone into believing that the child was not dead, even though he knows better. Next, he'll announce that the child has died because the body was not pumped with food while she was dead. The lawyer should be disbarred for acting crazy.

Evidently it takes a team of highly skilled nurses and expensive equipment to keep a deceased person "glowing". :banghead:

I've been doing it ALL wrong then. :floorlaugh:

A few days ago, Dolan was singing a different tune,

"If this damn hospital would just 'trache' her, we would be on the way to a facility that will provide world-class innovative treatments of the type being given to Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon in Israel," Dolan added.

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/loca...enter-for-Jahi-McMath-Attorney-238372101.html

Do you think there is any connection between this....:

"Chris Dolan is perpetuating a sad hoax on the public that there is something that can be done to the body of Jahi McMath to bring her back to life," he said. "This is a tragedy that is being prolonged by Mr. Dolan. He is not being honest with his clients, the media and the public. The sad truth is that this young lady is dead and is not coming back. Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this case."

...and this:

He also said the girl's body had "deteriorated so badly" during her treatment at the hospital that the long-term prognosis for survival is not an optimistic one.

"She's in very bad shape," he said. "Right now, we don't know if she's going to make it."

Could CD have been a bit spooked by Singer's comment?

He's going to have trouble alleging she died of "malnutrition". He'll need an autopsy and it will be difficult to prove malnutrition in the face of brain death.

He wants to keep his options open that so he can argue that Jahi died both of malnutrition and lack of care, and brain damage, if the need arises.

How would they make the malnutrition stick if she was declared brain dead on the 12th? I mean CHO was refusing to insert the feeding tube because she was legally dead, and the court validated that by smacking down the family's request for the trach and g-tube.

More of the toss stuff at the wall on the part of the lawyer?

Edited to fix my inability to spell "lawyer".

Am I understanding correctly the coroner released the body, does that mean he will not be doing an autopsy?

Ciao

I guess this new presser is to again slam CHO about the care of Jahi since her death until she was released yesterday.

IMO I think that would depend on the paperwork that was submitted. The devil is in the (unknown) details.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. Wouldn't be the first time, or even the 10th. :P

Exactly. The state court turned down a request for G-tube and permanent tracheostomy 3 (or maybe 4) times.

Dolan hasn't got much to go on with that line, except public sympathy.

Again, stuff thrown against the wall.....

I'd better walk the dog in time to get back for that one! IMO I think he's going to say (not the same as "admit") she's dead.

I've been following along since the middle of thread #1, and have been glued to this case since! First I want to thank all who have been posting on this case! Most all of the posts have been very informative, and MUCH needed.

I am absolutley horrified that Jahi's mother and other family members anger, need for revenge, and out and out greed have trumped any love they had for her. I've long thought that there were those within the family who were exploiting NW's grief for their own agendas. Top on the list is "Uncle Omari". I think he has had visions of $$$$ since Jahi suffered brain death, and he certainly loves being interviewed by the media. The grandma, SC, could it be she hopes to retire early? And NS herself. Jahi's own mother, who has made a CHOICE to let her daughter's body linger on the vent, while using what available time she could have had with Jahi, to bash CHO and go along with her brother and Dolan the ambulance chaser. Where is their Pastor through all of this?!

I think the judge in this case really was a coward for extending the TRO past the first DEC.30th, 2013 deadline! If he had done the job he was supposed to do, we wouldn't have this going on now.

This is a very disturbing case, and I'm very concerned with the precedent that has been made with this case! This is a ghastly nightmare, a true horror show. I hope that precious Jahi's heart stops beating soon so her remains can be finally laid to rest. I truly fear for the emotional well-being of Jahi's siblings! While I'm relieved Jahi is out of CHO, that is only for the hospitals sake. I also fear what potential experimentation could be perpetrated on Jahi's body, and what is happening to her body since being removed from CHO. This is a very distressing case, and I hope those who worked with and cared for Jahi every day while she was there can be given some kind of break to regroup if at all possible.

What is to come next? I sure don't know, but I do hope Jahi's precious heart stops, so this desecration of her body will not continue, and not become even more gruesome than this whole situation has allowed it to become!

I want to thank all posting on these threads for explaining to us lay people all the medical and legal aspects step by step, and helping me and many others understand just what is happening at all stages throughout this nightmare!

Back to catching up with this morning's posts!

You could be right, but if she is a Baptist there are no rituals performed on a dead body in this religion. Not at least the one I belong to. Kind of brings voodoo to mind or zombies. Just kidding, (I hope so at least). But definitely not Baptist. jmo

Using the above post as a springboard. I completely agree. I can't think of a single Christian denomination which has any rituals other than a funeral and celebration of life and being born into eternal life.

While I nave never been in NW's shoes having lost a child, I would hope my faith would help sustain my ability to accept and go on by knowing I would someday be reunited with my child in heaven.

I hear talk of faith but I see no fruit in the actions we have seen from the family since Jahi was declared deceased.

I'm glad the family got their wish to move Jahi and OCH can get back to the business of treating the living.

May Jahi now be able to rest in peace.
