The night of her surgery, after massive bleeding, Jahi went into cardiac arrest at midnight and remained "Code Blue" until 3:40 a.m., said Jamie Court, president of Consumer Watchdog, who added he has consulted with sources who have reviewed Jahi's medical records. He said her Code Blue lasted much longer than most.

"Either something was missing in the record or they were not attending to her," Court said.

Consumer Watchdog filed a complaint with the state Attorney General's Office on behalf of Jahi shortly after her case went public. The organization has highlighted Jahi's case as a reason to remove the cap on medical malpractice cases. Jahi's mother has criticized nurses' response to her daughter's bleeding. However, there were no nursing notes detailing the hemorrhaging episode, Court said.

"The records are worse than incomplete, but even what's there still has red flags," Court said. "That's often how they conceal medical negligence."

In a statement Thursday, Children's Hospital said a team of six surveyors, including nurses, physicians and state investigators, reviewed 239 federal standards and their report was "comprehensive."

"Mr. Dolan can voice his own opinions unchallenged while we are precluded from addressing the issues raised since we have never received a signed authorization for us to speak to any aspect of this case," said spokeswoman Melinda Krigel. "While we again cannot comment on this specific case, if there was evidence of a delay in response to an emergency or treatment, this would have been a finding of a review."

Meanwhile, Jahi, now more than three months on a ventilator since being declared brain-dead, is doing better than she was while at the Oakland hospital, said Dolan, who added he's visited her at an undisclosed location.

"She has not had a miracle happen but she ... is receiving the dignified care a beautiful young girl should (and) has a chance," Dolan said. "She has outlived all expectations. She's a fighter."

He can't decide. Yesterday he said she bled to death back in December, now she's alive again.

Where are y'all reading about her eyes opening? TIA

I can't believe this is still going on. Actually I can't believe this is still allowed to go on. Poor baby.

It's kind of hard to follow the conversation now, because it looks like a few posts have been removed.

Someone posted that there was a claim by "someone" (not sure if tweeted or what) that Jahi had opened her eyes. A poster asked if this was a brainstem function, or if it could be involuntary.

Suffice to say that any claims of eye opening have not been substantiated, and should be considered rumor. Attorney Dolan said that there has been no "miracle".

I'll say it - I don't believe there is any way someone diagnosed as "brain dead" turns themself. Not after 30 years as a critical care nurse who has handled a lot of "brain dead" folks. Spontaneous contractions of extremities ... maybe. Turning oneself from side to side ... nofreakinway!

If this in fact happened (turning oneself from side to side) I would think the family would be singing to the rooftops and showing the world this miracle. Not to mention the opening of her eyes (rumour). It would sure make their go-fund-me account go way up! I just don't believe that she's tossing and turning, while opening her eyes, and moving towards the person who is talking to her (according to reports I've read). My apologies - I don't have any links.

Just my opinion.

In an interview with The Chronicle on Friday at the office of the family's attorney, Jahi's uncle Omari Sealy, 27, said that while his niece remains unconscious, she looks healthy and moves her head, legs and arms regularly. Showing such signs of life, he said, the family is not going to give up on her.

She even turns in the direction of visitors when they enter her hospital room, an indication that she understands her surroundings, Sealy said.

...
"She definitely knows where she is and that we're present," he said.

I wonder if anybody's explained these things to him. If someone is unconscious she does not understands her surroundings and react to guests. If someone does that she's not unconscious.

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Family-says-brain-dead-Jahi-McMath-showing-signs-5319514.php

Family states she is turning in the direction when visitors enter the room. She can turn onto her side.

According to this article, Jahi is displaying signs of being "alive". Ok, I will accept that they believe this. However......

If this is so, Attorney Dolan has some serious work to do, like right now. He needs to petition the courts for an emergency hearing to declare Jahi "alive" legally, because right now, she has a death certificate and is "dead". He has a professional duty to the family he represents to do this, IMO, especially since he is essentially corroborating what Uncle Omari Sealey is putting out to the public. He also has a professional ethical obligation to do this on behalf of Jahi, who is as medically and legally vulnerable as someone can get-- dead or alive.

It would be a simple matter for a Judge to order 2 world class neurologists to examine Jahi at her secret location, and with transport to a hospital with imaging capabilities. Once those physicians have made their determination, they can report back to the court, and Jahi can be declared legally alive-- if she actually is. And her death certificate could be nullified.

I am actually very serious about this, because if Jahi is "alive", there are many, many legal, medical, social, and financial matters that need to be attended to. For example, if she is "alive", she qualifies for medical care to be paid for, she has tax status as a dependent, she may be eligible for some kind of social security, etc. She has rights and entitlements as a living person that are not afforded to the dead.

And, of course, if she is "alive", she would be the very first person with conclusive medical documentation and diagnostic imaging proving she was "dead" in December 2013, and is now "alive" and recovering in March 2014. This is no small matter.

Where is Dr. Paul Byrne NOW, when his services are so desperately needed? You see, if Jahi is alive, then there is actually some validation of his theories that there is no such thing as brain death, and organ procurement and transplantation is evil and cruel. Where is he?? I really want to hear from him now! He could be coordinating Jahi's neurologic evaluation to prove she is alive and making purposeful movement!

And imagine the donations for the family that might pour in, to help with her rehab and care, and family hardships, if she is indeed alive, and is declared legally alive? There might be interest in producing a documentary, that I suspect Uncle Omari Sealey might be interested in pursuing. There are so many advantages to Jahi being alive, I can't imagine why the family would not want to officially establish this? It would be the ulitimate "win-win" situation for Jahi, Nailah and her family, Attorney Dolan, CHO, and all of the medical profession. Alive is a miracle-- but even miracles need to be verified.

(I think even the Catholic church requires miracles to be verified for beatification, etc. Dr. Byrne might know more about that. It would be to his advantage to have these claims verified.)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about what Jahi's mom & her atty could do,
if, in fact, they believe her actions are evidence that she is 'alive.'
It seems like a logical thing to do.

Any around who can summarize or cut & paste from Jahi's funding site (per w/s terms of serv)?
More $ rolling in after sfgate article & Uncle Chump-Change's presser yesterday?

Great post! And yes, the Catholic Church has an extensive process for vetting miracles for beatification which often involves blind tests by independent medical personnel. I read a fascinating book about the process written by an atheist doctor who evaluated evidence in one case. It's an intensive process.

Mr. Dolan may want to consider employing someone to help him proofread his statements, before he posts them online, IMO.

Let me guess, uncle ran out of dinero eh? This family used to have my pity. Today, all I have for them is contempt.

When families are trying to preserve a dead family member, are they using cryogenics to preserve the body and give the illusion that the person is not dead? Cryogenics is used to inject water/moisture. It's a relatively cheap.
