Surfside engineer may be shut out because town is part of investigation

A source says there may be a good reason why Surfside’s forensic engineer (Allyn Kilsheimer) has been denied access to the site to investigate.

That’s because the town could be part of the investigation into what went wrong at the Champlain Towers South. And “it may be better to keep any investigators associated with the town away,” the source said.
...
In a statement Thursday afternoon, Fernandez Rundle (Miami-Dade State Attorney) said there have been multiple requests by engineers to gain access to the site and that at this point “NIST is the fact-finding agency.”

So far, the conspiracy theories have been under radar mostly. I expect now that many conspiracy theorists will start rearing their heads. (e.g. conspiracy junk that... NIST is destroying evidence ..and is in cahoots to protect others etc etc. )

Update on NIST’s Investigation of the Champlain Towers South Collapse (July 16, 2021)

ETA: Also of interest, is that many of the NIST folks have ??Gopros on their helmets in the field. (see video in link)

When a plane crashes in the US everybody knows that NTSB is going to investigate. Isn't this similar?

ETA: OTOH, there were conspiracy nuts doubting the crash into Pentagon.

I'd trust the NIST. The former Surfside building inspector is another matter entirely.

So many stories from those who escaped by seconds or minutes we now now. May they have time to heal now, in privacy, and answer questions for media (and us here) later on and when ready as I'm sure we have questions for all the survivors MOO.

From June 24th article...

'I Felt The Entire Room Shake.' Partial Building Collapse In Surfside Leaves One Dead, Many Injured

"A stroke of dumb luck might well have saved Eric Zion’s life. He lives in the Champlain Towers South building and he said he got back from a trip at about 10:30pm Wednesday night and, for some reason, the lights were shut off in his apartment. He doesn't know why his power was out but it pushed him to make a decision that he and his wife were going to rent a hotel room in the neighborhood just for the night. They planned to figure out the power situation in the morning.

“We drove out at like maybe 11:30ish, went to the hotel, took everything out, and then at approximately 12:30am, I came back to return my car to the parking lot. Then I went upstairs to get my scooter and I was probably in the apartment for 20, 30 minutes so I probably left like 12:50, close to 1:00,” Zion said.

The building collapsed at about 1:15am.

I went to the hotel. I don't know anything happened until I saw, like messages come up on my phone from people in the neighborhood,” said Zion. “I was like, ‘No way. I was just there.’ Like, how did that happen? So then I took my scooter and I came here and I'm like, 'What?' And I was literally just there when I put my car in, the whole garage collapsed. So my car is totaled. But like, you know, it could have been me.”

ETA: Not sure which building he was in, which was his parking space, nor which apt #

SBM. Eric Zion was in apt #508 and would have survived the collapse.

Maria Popa Radulescu has been identified today. Anastasia Gronovaen is not on the NYT graphic. She was a friend of the Pazos family who lived in Canada and was in Surfside on a visit.

Desplome en Miami Beach: algunas de las personas desaparecidas tras el derrumbe del edificio

ETA: The current number of identified is 93. Two victims which are unnamed are close in age to two of the missing, which would gives us only 5 unaccounted for. I'm not sure how they got 103 victims in one of the earlier articles.

BBM they only released her name as Maria Popa and I had not seen that name listed before and only had Maria Radulescu. Anastasia is listed in Miami Herald as friend or Pazos that lived on the 4th floor ("
Anastasia Gronovaen Friend of Pazos family, who lived in a fourth floor unit.)

As for Sophia Nunez (6) and Andres Galfrascoli (45) being the two not released. I was thinking the same thing. But looking into news articles and stuff it became harder to justify because there were recent articles talking about them still being missing. I think I was also seeing the friend who owned the unit was posting about them missing and he was a very close friend and I would think the family would let him know. I know that 's not proof of them not being the unnamed. But at the same time they were well known in Argentina and those articles were still talking about it.

Theater producer Fabian Nunez was in Surfside for beach day with daughter

But this article is saying they have been found. Derrumbe del edificio en Miami: hallaron los cuerpos del cirujano argentino Andrés Galfrascoli, su pareja y su hija de 6 años

The remains of a third Canadian citizen were pulled out from the rubble of a collapsed condominium in Surfside, Fla. Friday, Global Affairs Canadaconfirmed.

70c8fc80

The government has not identified the individual, but sent “its deepest condolences to the families and friends who lost a loved one” in the Miami-area building collapse. Four Canadians were believed to have been inside the ill-fated condominium when it collapsed on June 24.

In a statement released Friday, Global Affairs Canada said that Canadian consular officials in Miami are providing direct support to the families of the deceased and to the family of the one individual still missing.

Sources have identified the victim as 23-year-old Michelle Anna Pazos. She had been visiting her father, Miguel Pazos, in Surfside. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the situation, say the remains of both father and daughter were recovered last week….
Miami-Dade officials previously identified the first Canadian whose remains were found as 66-year-old Ingrid “Itty” Ainsworth, formerly of Montreal. She and her Australian husband, Tzvi, were publicly named after their bodies were recovered on July 5.

On July 13, Ainsworth shared a post commemorating his daughter's birth and name: Itta "Itty" Ainsworth:

Baby born day before condo collapse named for grandma who died in building

The Because Surfside YT live feed is back up. The pilings have now been removed... just orange cones where pilings were now.

Has anything else been posted regarding the man who claimed he was in an upper floor unit when the building fell, and found himself sitting in the rubble, pretty much unhurt?

This is the original feed for the Because Surfside stream (typically I haven't seen it down, but it's also not zoomed).
Champlain Towers South

Because Surfside Youtube is basically a zoomed in view of the previous recovery area.

They have made a good dent on the pile to the right of the screen where the part was demo'd for safety. But with that it looks like there is a lot more water, but they are also spraying water onto the pile for whatever reason they need.
