The hair made me think of Holmes?

Court lighting and/or hair condition may have made it look darker in court. I doubt he had time to dye his hair while in a jail cell.

A question about firearms.

I know that when fully automatic weapons were banned from sale (when? the 1980s?) those who legally owned them at the time were permitted to keep them under a grandfathering arrangement.

Have any of those weapons ever been involved in a mass shooting since then?

To the best of my knowledge, they have not been used in crimes.

The assault weapons ban was in 1994. These are semi-automatic weapons. One trigger pull, one bullet.

Another thing I wonder in this situation...why did he stop shooting? We know he had more ammo, but stopped shooting after only a few minutes and left his gun and bags. Why was this time different than the usual going out guns blazing?

I know someone that is in prison (life) sexual abuse 2 minor child. After the sentencing an article in paper stated that he had abused as child(juvenile), kept from public. If i had been married to him and not known i truly don’t know what i would have done knowing this had been kept from me.

The first funeral will begin soon, for 14 yo Alyssa Alhadeff. Her mother is the one who made the statement on CNN yesterday and was interviewed.

One of the parents interviewed on CNN about how Parkview is one of the top schools in the state, top baseball team, top in academics. Very well educated and involved student body. He's not surprised that the surviving kids are strongly motivated to use their experience to make change. This school is different from some of the others that have experienced mass shootings. It won't be forgotten, there will be change.

How surreal that must feel. Less than 48 hours ago their lives were still normal. And today a daughter is being buried. I think I’d have to have more time before the funeral just to let the reality sink in a bit.

We had kids with problems like KC 20, 30 and 40 years ago but we didn't have the mass shootings then even though guns were in many homes. What did these kids do back then when they had mental health issues, didn't fit in and/or were bullied? I know what they didn't do. They didn't find a place to fit in on social media. They didn't go to you tube and connect with others with violent tendencies where they could fit in. They weren't glued to their cell phones 24/7 where all it takes is a few taps to watch live violence. Our kids today have traded in their social skills for technology. Don't get me wrong, technology has done great things for our world but unfortunately, IMO it has in many cases, replaced our natural need for human relationships and interaction.

He was probably watching the news on his cell phone while sitting in McDonalds. Gloating over the horror and pain he created.

Some good questions you ask- I can tell you some major differences from 40-50 yrs. ago and young people:

Young troubled boys/men did not have access to automatic weapons in 60's-70's
Young troubled boys did not have access to recreational street drugs. They were becoming available here in Fl. in/or
around late 70's.
No social media at all. no computers at all.
No cell phones at all.
Psychotropic drugs for behavioral problems were just starting to be used in 70's.
Mothers were not working outside of homes- really started as a trend in 70's.
Day Care Centers were just becoming popular in '70's.
I'm sure there's more that I'll think of.

It’s common for a lot of people to wear athletic type shorts under their jeans. And they have underwear under the shorts.

Along these same lines you mentioned, we helped our parents and neighbors back then, cut grass, shoveled snow, maybe worked in the gardens; read books and went to libraries, played outside with our friends, rode bikes, etc. we used our imaginations a lot.

I agree with everything except the automatic weapons. They don't have access to automatic weapons now IMO. I will add to your list.

Interesting historical note about the 1934 ban. It was very popular and done in response to the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. It also banned silencers, mufflers, etc.

It also required owners of other guns covered in the Act (shotguns & other guns with barrels less than 18" in length) to register them with the US Treasury. It also imposed heavy taxes on the making and transfer of these weapons. They used federal taxes in these kinds of laws back then as a way to more easily convict criminals. (Recall, Al Capone was convicted and jailed for not paying taxes on bootleg alcohol)

Of course, they didn't have semi-automatic weapons then. Our grandparents & gr grandparents would probably have voted to ban those too. Use of military weapons by civilians on the streets of the US was shocking to them. As a kid, I remember when sawed off shotguns were illegal.
