Look at it another way.
Most of the guests at his resort are will be wealthy and probably Republicans voters.
It's the Republicans who need to be engaged in a new way with and won over to the gun control cause.
From what I understand the school is in a wealthy (and probably Republican) area, and many of the students who witnessed and survived the attack would likely have ended up as Republican voters.
There's little need to talk to Democrat voters and influencers about gun control because they are already pretty much on board.
But opening up a dialogue with ordinary Republicans might, just might, be what tips the balance. Maybe not today or even this year, but maybe in a few years.
The rules here are to attack the post and not the poster. So here goes.
This post deeply saddens me and hurts my heart. I am a Republican but voted for a Democrat for Governor in my state. He was the best person for the job in my opinion and it turned out to be so.
To even imply that Republicans are at fault is wrong, IMO. It makes it sound as if the Democrats are superior people in this post. Not so. We are all people and deserving of respect - no matter what party affiliation, IMO.
I am a parent, grandmother, and most of all a human being that values all life. I love my children as well as my grandchildren, and all young people.
We cannot divide gun safety into party lines. I own a gun. I am not going to give up that right without a tremendous fight. I am almost 68 years old, was in LE for 10 years, and these days have a permit to carry. I do not carry by choice but I do have that right.
I am one of your Republicans who are for much, much stronger gun laws. Anyone under 21 should not be allowed to purchase or legally own a weapon, IMO. AR 15's and other assault weapons should be outlawed, IMO. Private ownership of the AR 15's and other assault weapons became much more popular after the Gulf war. It has snowballed. Prior to that, it was the criminals, gangs, and drug dealers who owned them and did indeed use them. School shooters and people of that mindset have always had deadly weapons and will find a way to have them; illegally if it has to be.
Please, please, please do not place the blame for gun ownership on any political party. It is hurtful and wrong. It is the mentality of the individual owner that is responsible for how that weapon is used.
What has happened in Florida is a tragedy and should not have happened. I have agonized over it and it hurts me deeply for those students and their families.
**Sorry for the long post. I just finally had to speak out. I have finally said what was on my heart to say.
