Early on, I heard on CNN the governor or other say that the State would pay for funerals of those killed, but I never heard any mention of assistance with hospital bills and other related costs (you do know that these bill will be way more than funeral costs and could extend for longer periods).

If the governor is on twitter, maybe tackling him publicly on there about it might get a response.

They also believed him to be depressed over the demise of his mother. For that alone, did they really think it was a good idea for him to have a bunch of weapons in his room?

They were just trying to help a lost human being . It is that simple IMO

It would not matter what 4 walls were surrounding him -- on Valentines day he was going back to source of great anguish pain and despair and give that back.

It IS that simple IMO.

I am confused by their feeling guilty -- they did nothing but offer help to a person who obviously needed help.

When did we become such a blaming shaming entity of homopsapians?

Here's an article speaking about Nikolas Cruz's time at the Cross Creek School. Pretty interesting, though not too in depth.

https://www.local10.com/news/parkla...ession-with-guns-and-violence-documents-show-

"He is very easily influenced and was coerced to jump off the back of the school bus by a peer. Nikolas has difficulty with wanting to have friends and engaging in following the negative behaviors of those peers.
He also has poor judgment in social situations. Recently he was punched numerous times by a peer for using racial slurs towards that peer. … He refused to accept that the comments made by him caused the peers reaction."

This sounds like the 'symptoms' listed in FASD info I've read. "Failure to understand cause and effect.",
lack of executive judgement was another one.
CARIIS is so right. CARIIS is so right. CARIIS is forcing me to learn more about him and try to understand. Hard for most of us to comprehend how he thought and why.

PS/ Why was he not put in Special Ed.? Sounds like he was a danger to himself and others.

That article [with video] actually says a lot about his emotional/behavior problems and his time at Cross Creek before transferring to Stoneman. Glad you shared it, Peculiar.

The education plan shows that, even as Cruz was making progress at the Cross Creek School for emotionally and behaviorally disabled students in late 2015, but that he was known by administrators to have an obsession with guns and violence. Here are some passages from the plan: ......

Thanks, Peculiar- Very informative article. So WHO makes the decision to send him to MKD High School? Sounds
like he should have stayed in a school with 'professionals' who were more equipped to handle him.
So he goes to a regular high school and is supposed to adapt to everything new even though it was known he had
behavioral problems. Did he have special counselors at MKD to oversee him? Or was he just thrown in with
everyone and hope for the best?

The people who took him -even after what happened the man claims it was NC's right to own guns, specifically AR-15, and he hasn't changed his mind about it. They also didn't even know how many guns NC have.

"You thought it was fine for a 19-year-old to have an AR-15?"

I wonder if they might find themselves buried in the many lawsuits that will be launched because of this incident?

I’m in rural Ohio and there’s been threats of school violence here in my area since yesterday. There were bomb threats yesterday and a boy in our neighboring town took a gun to school this morning and shot himself. There’s reports now that he also may have had a backpack filled with some type of explosives on campus.
He’s in the hospital (no condition available), and all of our local schools in a 2 county area are locked down and now closed with all students being bussed home due to threats.
My friends and families kids are terrified...so afraid to go to school every morning and the parents are seriously considering homeschooling.
It’s just so sad. [emoji22]

ETA Update: The 13 year old boy took a rifle to school in his backpack. Went to the restroom and had planned to shoot up the school but accidentally shot himself. Recovering in the hospital.

Agree, he didn’t stand a chance for adapting, excelling, fitting in and having friends. This case to me is a bit different from others in that he had little to nothing working for him and almost everything working against him his entire life. His Mother may have caved in a long time ago, feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. Having no support system is a tragedy.

Yes, I think you're right. I can't even imagine what a nightmare his, his brother's, and his adoptive mother's lives were.
Every day they wake up to a different set of problems, more chaos, and the mother may have lost some of her support system when her son was transferred/mainstreamed to the new high school. Wonder how he spent his time after he
was expelled Feb. 2017.?? A neighbor said the boys sometimes spent 12-15 hrs. day playing video games. violent
video games. Could it be since he was 18 his mother could not force him back into a special ed. school?
I still wonder where he got the money to buy 10 assault type rifles?
Based on a little checking, it looks like they were living off proceeds from re-financing the home several times. At one point it had been re-mortgaged for $770,000.

I agree in that it sounds like his issues were far beyond the resources that his adoptive mother had.

How do we help those who seemingly can’t be helped?

What do the professionals do for people like him? I genuinely want to know.

Is it that they simply don’t know what to do? That’s why so many seem to fall through the cracks?

What a sad, sad situation for all involved.

updates and info on the Jackson Twp. school incident:
http://www.wkyc.com/article/news/lo...himself-in-jackson-middle-school/95-520949889

also found were distraction devices in a backpack (ammo and Molotov cocktails; not a bomb). he apparently is in the hospital with a gunshot wound to temple area.

Just saw your latest update.... those poor kids. This didn't even take a week for another terrifying gun occurrence to happen.

As CARIIS says it does take money. In the interim, taking a personal interest in spreading awareness with a whole hearted mission to fix what is broken on many levels.

Its going to get worse before it gets better simply because of where we are as a society. But a paradigm shift can begin to form in the wake of it. Its overwhelming to us individually speaking but one by one things can bring positive change.

Tragedy commands attention like no other way has the quickest potential power to do.

You nailed it, CARIIS. I respect your depth of empathy and understanding. Thank you for sharing it.

I feel awful for them.
