And now I am crying again.

3 Parkland freshmen awarded Army Medal of Heroism. One wore it to his grave.

Three students slain in the Parkland school shooting have received posthumous medals of heroism and one was buried with it pinned to the chest of his Junior ROTC uniform Tuesday, the Army’s Cadet Command said.

A thousand students walk out of class and march to Stoneman Douglas High

The rest — at least 1,000 students disgusted and inspired by the shooting — sprinted past teachers and police officers, through the school’s entrance and out into the street. They walked, ran and hitched rides 12 miles to Parkland, to pay their respects to the students and faculty that were killed at Stoneman Douglas — and to protest gun violence.

I don't think I've seen this resource posted in this thread yet.

https://schoolshooters.info/

Its a very comprehensive database maintained by a psychologist who has extensively researched school shooters and has published two books on the topic. Lots of good information there for those trying to get into the mind of the people who commit these horrific acts.

Replying to my own post regarding the family friend who filed to administer the estate few days before Zachary turns 18.

This would be another wrong move in the best interest of Zachary. He needs someone who is professionally equipped and knowledgeable to manage this for him.
Presuming there is actually some money there. Given the short sale info, I would be very surprised if there was much of anything.

I do wonder why they only took this step after the shooting, rather than right after the mother died.

Maybe there are some funds that would be at risk of any wrongful death lawsuits. NC told Snead's he would be getting
$800,000 when he turned 22.

Why not? I think the inheritance is unrelated to whether he spends his life in prison.

I wonder if they might find themselves buried in the many lawsuits that will be launched because of this incident?

What would be the legal basis for any such lawsuits? NC was 19, legally an adult. These people let him into their house, but they aren't legally responsible for what he does, as far as I can tell.

Adoptive parents often know little, if anything, about the birth parents. iirc, it’s often protected information.

I guess you shouldn't go into it assuming everything is great with the bio parents.

How are they able to release his records DHHS records? I thought they were confidential? It states a warning right on them.

They were and still are confidential which is why it was illegal to publish them prior to the Judge`s ruling today as long as redactions were made.

Link

Throughout the weekend, various news outlets obtained the records from a source unknown to DCF. As the documents were confidential by law until the court ruling today, DCF was previously unable to provide critical details that are important for the public’s understanding.

BBM

On September 29, the investigator attempted to make additional contacts to verify information related to the report on NC. The school resource officer was contacted and refused to provide specific information to the investigator. Florida law does not give APS the authority to compel law enforcement to provide additional information during an investigation. It also included a discussion with school personnel and no concerns were relayed.

This sounds like the 'symptoms' listed in FASD info I've read. "Failure to understand cause and effect.",
lack of executive judgement was another one.
CARIIS is so right. CARIIS is so right. CARIIS is forcing me to learn more about him and try to understand. Hard for most of us to comprehend how he thought and why.

PS/ Why was he not put in Special Ed.? Sounds like he was a danger to himself and others.
He probably was in "special ed". I talked about this a lot in thread 1. The issue is that in order to keep people with disabilities from being treated as "different" or "less than", a push for "inclusion" began. On many levels it is great. It allows all people to be in classes and life together, regardless what their differences might be. The problem is that it also ignores that different issues actually have different needs, that might be best solved in a situation that does not have him in a class with everyone else. In any case, he was probably in classes with everyone else, while he had an Individualized Education Plan that would have given both behavioral and educational goals and guidance for him.

I've skipped some pages so this might have been posted already, but:

"The woman left in charge of the accused Florida school shooter and his brother after their mom died last year filed court papers the day after the massacre seeking to be put in charge of the dead woman’s will — then had the alleged shooter’s brother involuntarily committed, a source close to the family revealed to The Post."

As a mother of a high schooler, i just
can't express my pride adequately. 1000 strong, independent thinkers! There is hope for the world.

Thank you for that! Yes, see... that report there was the report that was investigating mom. I worked in mental health for so long! Dealing with a person like Nikolas is absolutely exhausting. So much so that his behavior got her investigated.

I think I remember saying he cut his arms after he had seen or heard someone else talk about it. Mimicking behavior was not uncommon in some of my clients diagnosed with Autism. It is just another form of them studying behavior to fit in. Not a true form of behavior that comes from within.

Moral of the story is still the same
... mental health needs attention and resources. Parents and schools should never be left with the minimal options they have, to treat severe mental health issues in children. It might not be fun and it's easier to just say they must not have been parented enough, but some of it is bigger than that. Much bigger than that.
