community mental health - well community mental health - swamped huge turnover ( translation kids that have had a horrible history of bonding , total disarray, come get in, get attached to a therapist , turn over, new therapist, feels like abandonment agai, the parent has to start all over with a new therapist, often transportation problems , resulting in erratic visits , folks who write RX see each child about 7 minutes writes a RX

next community mental health is primary medicaid population

it not like the movies !!!!

Its so hard for little people with problems. They go to school. They notice peers are getting through assignments , answering questions correctly. THey try

They just cant do it. Peers are mean. They start to be called names. Frustration builds.

There called stupid. Adult interaction with them is negative . Your bad. They are little people they absorb all this negative energy.

They fall behind. School becomes dread.

They start behaviorally acting out. That gets more negative attn - from everywhere.

Goes on and on. They give up trying\\They fall further behind

THey get held back Kids tease them about that

If by that point they get meds (often wrong) ADHD was huge at around his age back then.

Ritalin is incredible for kids that ARE ADHD.

It is speed for kids when it is misdiagnosed.

Is it sold on the street as speed.

They get teased for having to take crazy people meds

He was not ADHD IMO! ADHD does not blossom into autism. They are completely different things. Moo

Autism has a lot of repetitive behaviors that can be confused for frigidity. Hyperactivity.

Obviously I am in no position to diagnosis him. I did a lot of work with kids.

Very few autistic children are ADHD as well.

they are like incompatible! A C battery is never a D battery!

It can mimic ADHD as onset gets worse.

But this was 20 years ago -- a lot less was known back then.

Sad all the way around .............

I dread the day a school or a prank pulls afire alarm in a school setting -- gonna be a mess .

But then I wonder really how many school students across the nation are really following the news -- but then I think maybe with SM maybe

Gosh a school that has a real fire what a mess that might be jeezzzzzzzz

what a mess

I still wish they would kill fire alarms for a couple of months ! Like turn the system
off .

Sorry going back to my kids in the classroom is bringing back a flood of memories!

Rambling event arriving:

Hey I was a teachers nightmare -- always making the class laugh.

I loved fire drills -- exciting !! Less math or spelling !! Yeh!! Liked reading and arts and crafts

ha! Science could be cool. History well in my mind at that time history ought to be kept history !!! Who cared what Jefferson did a thousand years ago !!!

I always intuitively knew I could never need in my life the ability to find the value of X.

The value of X was my enemy! Who cares about the value of X! How could anyone care about the value of X! Teachers that tought about finding the value of X were sure excited about finding the value of X!

Teachers IMO that loved finding the value of X were not well -- those lovers of the mystery of X!

oppsss a dash tangential !!

I still hate the value of X!!

I before e but not after C but near R I did not care much about that either!!

Who cares if your using an adjective before or after an adverb -- that accidently came to me naturally -- why did I need to be able to label what they were --- I ask you?

Where in my future I pondered when told to memorize all the capitals of all the states.

Who how or why would I ever need to do that!!

I quitely knew that being able to add and subtract might have some merit down the road!!

Same with reading -- that seemed to make some sense to me!

But the dam $ value of X...............................................

Totally agree. And, there seems to be a rise in ADHD and Autism co-dx'ing.

As a mother of a high schooler, i just
can't express my pride adequately. 1000 strong, independent thinkers! There is hope for the world.[/QUO

It is just that nov is so far away. Tall voted down gun stuff TODAY while the buses were rolling.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/20/us/gun-control-florida-shooting.html

It's tragic to me that the main targets of school shootings are not even old enough to vote on behalf of their own safety. What a terrifying position to be in... What else can they do to call attention to their fear? This is their reality. Have a seat and hope for the best?

It's sad all around! Because without people stepping up to adopt, then we have more children who are being set up for failure and destruction. I'm going to say the answer is, yet again, resources and support. Encourage those who are well vetted and aware of the issues that could arise to adopt. And then offer them follow along supports on how to handle things, if things aren't going as well as we would want for an adjustment. You can't send them back. You can't shame people for wanting to help. You can't leave them out in the cold woth no help and no way to deal with it! The answer lies right in the middle. Like everything in life. Extremes are never the answer. Get to a good solid middle ground and let it stick.

The link to that info is my brain. Ha! Random thought in the mpnola brain dot com

OH my god have you all heard about the articulate kid Hogg whose father is an FBI agent -- and the stuff people are posting

unreal

oh that is good it looks like that have given LE power to start a Baker Act that is good

so that means the gov has no clue what he is talking about again cause he is the one that pretended that would be a good idea

cool a good idea that is already , apparently in place.

I recommend a new alternator for the car that just got one -- go govt!!

So far from what i have read about the 19 yr. old NC, he relayed to LE that the demonic voices in his head told him how to carry out the shooting.
It has been verified by a family member he was autistic, but i don't think hearing voices is normally what happens in autism, but i don't know that much about autism either so i don't know?
From my own experiences years ago of working in the mental health are, the only people that heard voices usually came under a diagnosis of Schizophrenia. I really think that NC needed some serious intervention, but sometimes it is not obvious if he kept all of those feelings of hearing voices etc. too himself, and now of course it is obvious that things got way out of control and no one saw it coming, or they didn't take the crazy stuff he was posting on SM seriously? He definitely should never have had access to guns or military type training IMO.

Article with some of Cruz's coworkers. He's portrayed in a different light.:

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/crime/article201198829.html

They remember Cruz as a quiet and helpful colleague — a far different portrait from the one painted by classmates, neighbors and teachers who were so concerned by his erratic and violent behavior and obession with guns.
“He was always happy, he was always smiling,” said April Woods, who last worked with Cruz on Tuesday, the day before the Stoneman Douglas shooting.
Woods said coworkers never saw him as threatening in any way. Cruz was small and always wore a green hoodie, complaining of the cold. She knew he got picked on at school.
“I called him Fragile Nick,” she said.

Public defender asked judge Tues. to determine if NC has funds from inheritance.
Interesting info: Lynda filed malpractice against doctor treating Roger Cruz at his death.
Atty. who handled settlement recommended Lynda get nothing but proceeds put in trust for sons. He had never done
that before.

So much for this DCF report appears to have just been written, yesterday, not much when incident happened.
Lots of heads on chopping block. Everybody seems to be in defensive mode including Gov. Scott and state
legislature.
These kids going to Tallahassee to talk to legislature are in for a rude awakening. Florida is a strong pro-gun
state. Much of Fl. is rural, red neck, gung ho hunters who would die before giving up their guns.

I’m not sure if this was already posted but here’s a longer interview with James and Kimberly Snead.

The family that allowed the confessed Florida school shooter to live with them says he told them two weeks before the shooting that he was the happiest he’d ever been in his life.

Sounds like in recent months, he managed to behave well, all the while planning to carry out mass murders.

Manic depression aka Bipolar Disorder?

While in a state of mania, a manic depressed person may do things that are a cause for shame or embarrassment later, but in the moment, they may seem perfectly "right". If left untreated, manic depression may lead to a psychotic state.

Doesn't sound like that to me at all. He wasn't doing things that would be cause for shame or embarrassment prior to mass shooting. He was supposedly behaving well both at work and with the family that let him move in. None of that suggests uncontrolled mental illness to me.

Now Broward Co. schools say NC was Never Expelled.
Hot potato, hot potato
CYA

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article201216104.html

From the link..

Is the School Board Superintendent actually passing this off?

Where is their acknowledgement of responsibility?

Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie wouldn’t discuss Cruz’s school records, citing a federal law that protects student privacy, but said he didn’t think providing Cruz with more school services would have prevented the shooting.

“Based on what’s reported in the media, here’s a kid who’s lost both parents, he’s got obviously some mental health challenges,” Runcie said. “Let me just say if we provided every service that we could and did all that in exemplary fashion, if he can still get access to guns what’s the point of all this?”

“This is a systemic problem we have that isn’t about blaming one agency or the other,” he added. “What we need to do is move from trying to play the blame game and find real solutions.”

According to this article NC worked at Dollar Tree 2 years ago as a cashier. He had face to face interactions with the public and the employees have said nothing negative about him or his behavior.

Once, about two years ago, Guerra and a friend stopped at the Dollar Tree on their way to a movie theater and Cruz said something particularly troubling when he asked them about the high school. “I’m going to go there and shoot it up,” he said, according to Guerra. Then he told Guerra and his friend not to worry, that they would be safe because they had always been nice to him, Guerra said.

Sure sounds like he planned the murders for a long time.

Well i was just wondering what the result of his treatment for mental illness was exactly from MSM article that stated such, and what i posted up earlier? My thoughts were schizophrenia because he was hearing demonic voices telling him how to do the shooting, but in a psychotic type episode that could also be the case?

I don't know that he was hearing any voices. There were a couple of early reports but they could very well be false. He seemed to be able to control his behavior prior to murders, which to me doesn't suggest any uncontrolled mental illness. All of this to me sounds like planned premeditated murders he was planning for a long time.

The 19-year-old who is accused of killing 17 people and injuring dozens more when he opened fire on a South Florida high school Wednesday afternoon told investigators that he heard voices in his head, giving him instructions on what to do to conduct the attack, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The voices were described as "demons" by law enforcement sources.

Agree, he didn’t stand a chance for adapting, excelling, fitting in and having friends. This case to me is a bit different from others in that he had little to nothing working for him and almost everything working against him his entire life. His Mother may have caved in a long time ago, feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. Having no support system is a tragedy.

And we have to remember his academic deficits are kinda building up.

Social dynamics are changing puberty etc etc .

Being placed in a school for a special kids ( they see it kinda like a school for retards or some negative connotation like that.
