Well, I am sure I wouldn't want to see him on the street in 10 years.

Rehabilitated does not necessarily mean returning him to the streets.. it's more about giving him a direction and goals within prison life.. something he can be proud of.. tasks and skills he can learn. It happens in prisons within the uSA as well as Europe..

I am sure his attorneys are doing all they can. But we wont be privy to 99% of that until trial gets close. There is no question he is the shooter, so all they can do is try to mitigate. They will be arranging lots of mental evaluations redoubtably. And we also don't know how cooperative he is at this point.
As for rehabilitation, he may indeed be rehabilitated, but he will never be a free man again.

I don't see any way someone like this can be rehabilitated.

Actually, I have been worried for years because I wonder where they go after they receive treatment, No one has ever given me any info. And the kids I know of are not the sickest. They go somewhere else. I do not know where.

Remember the kid from Minneapolis who flew in a plane to Vegas. He also had driven cars at age 10, was it? I was waiting to see him come to the treatment place I know. He never did which means he was sent to more intense treatment but I do not know where that is.

Many years ago I was involved with a GED program and we had 2 instructors who went into the county jail to teach
prisoners. I would guess there's still a jail/prison program going on.
But unless they can get his depression under control, he may not be capable of taking advantage of that.


I can't see him ever being safe or capable of independent living in or out of jail. I suspect his problems stemmed
from organic brain damage present at birth and even if he didn't shoot up the school, IMO, it was just a matter of time
before he committed some violent crime and would end up incarcerated. Had his mom lived, I think she would have eventually had to have him committed at a home for emotionally troubled boys.
He may actually be safest where he is, until he goes into general population and then he'll have big problems.

This type of crime is the reason Florida has the death penalty. If it’s not used in this case when will it ever be used? A person who guns down 17 innocent children does not deserve to live, IMO. There is no other appropriate punishment. He killed 17 children, for no reason at all. Letting him live will only encourage others to follow in his footsteps.

Well I had a neighbor kid years ago, who was also adopted by an older, well off couple. He became a neighborhood
problem in fact I'm sure he was the burglar that robbed and stripped my home while I was on vacation. But as he
got a little older he developed a habit of robbing banks, he'd serve time and get out and rob another bank.
the last heist he did was on his bicycle because his parents wouldn't buy another car for him to crash. In between
jail sentences he got a girl pregnant- twice- so he has 2 young kids and he's still in jail.
So I suspect that's what happens to a lot of them. The jails and prisons are filled with messed up young men.

This article has some information that can shed light on why he stopped shooting. He didn't stop because fire alarm went off. Appears his gun jammed. Apparently he tried to kill a lot more people by shooting out a window so he could shoot that from above, but glass held, so that didn't work.

"Investigators believe the suspect tried to reload, but after changing magazine clips, his gun may have jammed, Bojorquez adds. Cruz then allegedly put down his weapon and left the building, blending in with other students."

A few days back I posted a thread about John La Due- he had planned to shoot up and bomb a school but someone in the community happened to see him going to a storage locker and thought it looked suspicious, and his plan was thwarted.

WBUR interviewed him in light of this shooting- you can listen to the interview here, where he talks about what was going on in his mind that led him to plan the attack.

He plead to a felony charge, but did not go to prison.

To my knowledge, he is the only person who had planned and gotten close to carrying out a mass shooting and lived to tell us about it afterwards. Most of these folks kill themselves or get killed by cops. James Holmes is another who is alive, but he hasn't done any media interviews.
