Do we know if she had a life insurance policy? It’s been stated she was frugal with herself so she could give everything to the boys. I wouldn’t be surprised if she spent the couple hundreds bucks a month on a policy for the boys.

There is money in a trust from a malpractice lawsuit, and money from the sale of the home.

From Business Insider: "Lynda Cruz in 2008 settled a medical malpractice suit against a doctor and a clinic over her husband's medical treatment before his death, the Herald reported. A court-appointed attorney recommended the couple's two adoptive children, Nikolas Cruz and his brother, Zachary Cruz, receive $175,000 to be kept in a trust fund until adulthood, the report says." "Lynda Cruz also sold her Parkland home last year for $575,000, the Herald reported, citing Broward County property records."

Is it possible when you add the 575,000 to 175,000 (750,000) it gets to the number he thought he was going to come into?

It has to be fairly sizable because the guardian (Deschamps?) has petitioned the court to handle the estate. If it was close to nothing, she could not get a whole lot to administer so why petition?

Thanks, I think I’ve seen this before. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t life insurance, which may not be public.

His mum married a widower with several children before they adopted Nick and his brother..
yet only 4 people attended her funeral, including Nik and brother.. i wonder if they had become estranged in the course of her husband's life or following his demise?

I haven’t seen anything on Roger Cruz being a widower. Are you referring to her previous marriage to Robert Seda?

I have read this on a few other sites, too. Here is one:

http://www.businessinsider.com/niko...180-rounds-ammunition-florida-shooting-2018-2
Investigators believe Cruz had tried to gun down down fleeing students from a makeshift sniper's nest on the third floor of the building, but that hurricane-proof glass in the stairwell window stopped his bullets.

A law enforcement source told CNN that Cruz still had roughly 180 rounds of ammunition left when he grew frustrated with the reload attempt and fled.
Authorities said Cruz then ditched his weapon and escaped by blending into a crowd of students. The source also told CNN that Cruz had swastikas etched onto the magazines.

Same as that!!!
I wonder whether he knew and whether it contributed to his desperation, abandonment and decision to take the action he did?

No disrespect to you and I understand empathy, kitty..... but there is no justifiable reason for him killing 17 lives. I feel for the families of those 17 victims and for the wonderful lives they may have led.

Absolutely. I think the number of 800,000 is probably true and it is probably not available yet. The petitioner is looking to admin. the estate so we know it has not been settled as well.

Honestly. I’m a childless stepmom, and that is heartbreaking. BUT, I don’t know the situation. However I do remember reading that Lynda and dad (his name is escaping me) met while they were both married. I may be mistaken, but if I’m not, I can understand why stepkids didn’t come to the funeral. I’m more curious about Lynda’s family. Did she have no one left? Why didn’t anyone on her side attend? I am also fortunate enough to not know how it works, arranging a funeral for a close loved one. Maybe she had family in NY but they weren’t notified of services? Who would have told them? Very sad. The pic of NC and his brother holding the urn is so sad. NCs facial expression is telling.

She had an older Brother, he died 2 years before her. He has 5 children and 7 grands. Brothers wife ‘Barbara’ has spoken to LE and she said kind things about Lynda.

Her parents and stepmother are deceased.

I have no desire to empathize with him, justify his actions, or feel sorry for him at all. But, just as I want to know what makes certain criminals tick, I am curious about his mental state, including what his decision making process was.

I guess I hope that kind of information might help to be more proactive in the future?

Could it be that he had a biological, genetic predisposition and even being brought up in a lovely, pleasant household with well-meaning parents would not have made a difference?

Agree. I think $800k is not far fetched. My husband and I are in the beginning stages of estate planning (complicated family structure compared to “regular” married couples) I am surprised that she may not have appointed someone to be the executor. I feel like there’s more to the story on the estate/will/inheritance etc.

Sure! I enjoy the process, it helps to keep me sane in the midst of these tragedies. I’m still searching for more on her previous marriage to Robert Seda.

It is sad that she named NC after her father and brother. That is an endearing sentiment for a mother who is adopting. Never imagining it would turn out this way.

Where is the money coming from? The settlement she got over the wrongful death of her husband was nowhere near that amount. She clearly had money issues prior to her death, having to sell the house in a short sale.

. Hopefully that has been fully investigated and checked off for any type of funds they were looking to gain.

I very much doubt LE is going to care about that considering the crimes NC is accused of. By the way, were people supposed to let him live with them for free? He was an adult at that point, was somebody supposed to feed him and give him a place to live for no compensation? None of these people were related to him. Given that, why is it expected they should have cared for him without compensation?

I wonder if LC did a short sale to rid herself of a house of shattered dreams as her health was also declining—a short sale as an immediate method to remove the bad memories in that home, the presumed bad condition it was in (walls punched in, furniture bashed, etc), and in some ways thinking it would rid herself of NC if she moved into a small apartment once NC turned 18?

Maybe she tried her best time and again to devote all her energies, time, Love, money to what she dreamed to be a perfect home and family just to see her dream crumble time and time again?

Maybe she gave up? Maybe she **needed** it all to be gone quickly as she had one too many last straws? It is possible that she felt all alone in her “prison” of a house with a very sick and disturbed son? Maybe she just gave up in every literal sense of the word? Cutting her losses.....
