"(CNN)Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooter Nikolas Cruz told a detective shortly after the February massacre that a voice in his head the night before the shooting told him to hurt people....

Several times when the detective left the room, Cruz spoke to himself saying, "Kill me. Just (expletive) kill me. (expletive)."

Another time, Cruz said, "I want to die. At the end you're nothing but worthless (expletive) dude. You deserve to die because you're (expletive) worthless and you (expletive) (unintelligible) everyone. I want to die."

'Demon' in his head

Cruz spoke to the detective about what he called a demon in his head, according to the transcript of the interview. Cruz said the voice told him to do bad things, including the night before the shooting. He said it was the voice that told him to buy the AR-15 and to take an Uber ride to Marjory Stoneman Douglas the day of the shooting.

The detective asked Cruz what the demon told him to do. Cruz answered, "Burn. Kill. Destroy."

He told the detective that he sometimes used the drug Xanax and marijuana to make the voice go away.

Cruz said the voice was talking to him while he was there in the interrogation room, telling him to kill himself...."

Those conclusions were revealed Friday in a consultant’s report commissioned by the Broward public school system....

"Prosecutors had planned on releasing video of Nikolas Cruz‘s confession on Tuesday, but that appears to have hit a last-minute snag. The Public Records Unit of the State Attorney’s Office in Florida has said in a statement that the release of the video will not occur today because they still need to make sure the video is redacted where necessary.

“The Public Records Unit of the State Attorney’s Office will not be releasing the video of Defendant Cruz’s statement today. To preface my statement. I don’t intend for anything to take away from the victims and their families. At all. God, I can’t imagine the nightmare they live every day.

Watching those videos was hard. It seemed like Zachary was trying to get NC to confess and open up on camera. But at the same time, i felt he was having a hard time grasping the situation. There isn’t a class that teaches you how to react to your brother being a mass murderer soon after your mother dies.

I understand peoples criticism of ZC when he was getting caught trespassing on school grounds. But after seeing the videos I can’t help but believe he was just really having a tough time and didn’t really have anyone to turn to.

I’m prepared for the hate I’ll get for this post but whatever.

Throughout his interrogation, the admitted Parkland shooter can be seen punching himself in the face several times and pretending to shoot himself in the head — while uttering the words, “just f–king kill me” repeatedly to a surveillance camera.

“It’s painful [to watch],” said Ryan Petty, whose daughter was killed in the Valentine’s Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

“I mean, it’s clear to me we’ve got a sick individual that I think at the time was coming to grips with what he had just done,” Petty told WPLG. “I don’t like to think about that day, to be honest. But if we’re going to figure out how to stop this, we’ve got to try to understand it.”...

Most people who watched the confession tapes on Wednesday were disturbed by what they saw, but some were skeptical.

This kind of theme often comes up in tragedies like these.

IMO it is part of the problem - it indicates a misunderstanding of mental illness.

How can a society hope to increase awareness of the problem of the problem is not understood.

For many - it appears as if the erroneous conclusions surrounded by the notions of premeditation equal no mental problems.

It does not . At all. IMO

Many acute illness within mental health have a huge rumination component and some consist of (at times) command hallucinations.

Premediation is not the same as ruminations - at all.

If flipped what it really means IMO is an endless effort not to do the shooting (or whatever) which is finally overcome and it happens. Stressors increase the likelihood of no longer being able to contain self.

For him , clearly his mothers passing was profound. Profound in many ways differently than one who is not sick. Loss of familiarity is scary for them. Different room different people different rules -- this throws them off - a lot.

Then it happens again. So now he lost his mother, his existence totally turned upside down.

CLearly as a child his huge issues were overlooked while it appears at times mom kind of caved in. Which is understandable if one understands and hears what the parent is dealing with at home.

As a result of the lack of help -- the parent also gets burned out. (especially when single parent). In some instances they live in fear of doing anything escalates him or her. There alone and scared of the child.

They have tried to get help - but it is not comprehensive. As the child gets bigger they get more frightened.

I was surprised in a tragedy of this kind they did not seem to utilize a cop trained in some way in this stuff.

His interview was horrid. You dont slam them question after question. Jeezz it was being recorded he could have filled out the paperwork off the video afterward.

There scared confused. Eye contact (sometimes that is not good they will let you know or you can sense it) is huge

asking like you care as opposed to information gathering. He appeared like he was afraid he would look "stupid" again if he did get the answer right.

He over and over made it clear that he did not think the guy was suffering with problems and issues.

there are all sorts of ways to ask things relating to voices that can give one a better understanding of what the experience is like for each person . It is different.

etc etc

He had no IMO real interest in learning anything about what was going on for him

At one point he tried to explain and made a telling revelation. - he pointed inside his head when referring to his bad side and when talking about his other (good) side he pointed to his body. I thought that was significant.

the brother segment was so sad --the minute he was touched and embraced it felt so good to him he lost it- that was poignant.

I dont know how far the store was from where he was living. Much has made of using Uber. I would think without a car that would be a behavior he had done often.

It feels as if the Uber , to some, indicates planning when more than likely it was something he was familiar with.

Like HOlmes (batman) he easily surrendered .

There has been some talk about acting sick . He was consistent. It took him time to process each question.

I am sure this mirrored his school experience - a distressing environment for him .

I watched the self injury twice. It was more IMO than indicative of the way he thought and felt about himself. I dont someone acting would be able to repeatedly and quickly slug oneself that hard over and over.

His endless picking things off his arms was also interesting and atypical behavior.

His failed attempt to remove hospital band was followed by what looked like disappointment that he could not succeed and remove it.

I am sure some will say him looking at the camera before miming killing himself means he was faking it. It also could have been a plea and he was talking to those in control of his life to do that - kill him (matches with the I don't deserve water) . THe water comment was instant revealing his thoughts about himself .

There was also another impulsive episode of shooting himself in chest mouth . It was sudden -- revisiting the thought that he was dead impulsivity.

I thought it was also interesting when putting pretend gun to his temple he pulled and then seemed like he waited a couple of seconds (like oh i did not go off) then he tried again waited again.

Then he switched to trying again in his chest. Those are IMO nuances that indicated they are not being "performed" but are impulsive reflections of what is going on his disturbed mind.
