I, too, immeditately sent off a thank you note to the author of that new article. It feels so good to know we are all on the same page without even a mention!

Gracenote, that's a fantastic idea (the sporting event/welcome centers, etc.). :hug: I'm just catching up on the posts but I love the idea of trying to get a note of encouragement & love to Adji's mother and family!

I believe that too, Adji's community and the LE there have done their best. It's a heartwrenching, ugly fact to face that national media picks & chooses, thru some sort of demographic discrimination (imo), of what child will draw more interest and viewers. Apparently, they don't realize that the majority of us will extend our hearts to any child or adult in these situations, not just the "pretty" children or wealthy businessman, or the ones with the right color skin... or, well... you can see I could head off into the weeds with a rant here so I'll stop.

Adji's case is so similar to Sandra's. They were both last seen playing with friends, and then just disappeared. Yet Sandra's case has received so much more coverage. I still believe that the police and community have done a great job for Adji, but it makes it very hard when the media are not as interested.

Praying that Adji's case has a different outcome than Sandra's.

I read your note over in Sandra Cantu's threads... and realize what you are going through. Excuse me if you have already done this, which you likely must have somewhere, if so just send me to the links.

Here is something, an angle. If someone were to pick up Adji, or to spot him, since he does have a limited vocabulary PLEASE post sample conversations that might take place with Adji.

If someone like Nancy Grace or another show would cooperate, surely they can script such exchanges as soundbites grab people's attentions quickly. What were some of his favorite phrases that he did know. What words did he like to say. What would he say when upset. Does he know "911".

There are many blanks to fill in. Paint a picture of him in words. What was a day and night with Adji like. What were his favorite colors, foods, drinks, music, toys, people, TV shows, did he like cats or dogs better. Macdonalds? Did he know Publix and Walmart. Stuff like that...

So I thought of this tonight, Dear Adji, please let an angel know that you have to let your Mommy know where you are, she needs to know.

I feel sad for Adji's Mommy. She has gone so long without her sweet baby boy and she has to go to bed every night and wonder ... and wake up every morning to miss her Adji.

Adji, you will always be in mine and my Husband's hearts until you come home again.

I'm wondering about this angle to get more media attention - the racial disparity angle. That Adji and some other cases similar to his get little attention while certian missing children get a huge amount of attention, like Haleigh, Caylee, etc. I wonder if a program like Dateline, 20/20 may feature his case in the context of examining why some case are virtually ignored and whether racism plays a part. Feedback?

Thanks for these pictures. I had never seen them. The pain in his grandmother's face is heartbreaking. He seems to be such a loved little boy. I'm still hoping for that miracle, but if that isn't to be, I pray for that family to be able to bring him home, and to at least know. Everyone deserves that modicum of resolution. I hope they are all given the grace and strength to endure this until it is resolved.

Last night I did a lot of reading of old articles that I hadn't seen because I can't sleep these days, and I was so impressed with the way the Collier County Sheriff's office handled the case. They used dogs, rounded up zillions of volunteers, looked in every trash can, canal, and swamp, and used (I am blanking on the word) thermal vision? no. Oh well, you know what I mean, the technology they use so they can see heat images at night. They pulled out all the stops. Which makes me think that he must have been abducted and taken out of the area very quickly. Otherwise surely they would have found something.

Hi gitana - I just wanted to add a few comments here regarding the "race" issue. Please understand I am all for whatever it takes to get Adji some media exposure so please don't think I am trying to dissuade you. Whatever it takes!

Having said that, I really don't believe this is a race issue. I believe it is a DRAMA issue. Adji has good, decent parents and a loving grandmother. There are no rumors about illicit love affairs, possible parental involvement, or sex, drugs or rock n roll. The news of a possible stanger abduction was very slow to come out and did not really come out until the searches had been called off. In Caylee's case, she was not reported missing for 31 days, media outlets played this to the hilt. In Haleigh's case there was a very dysfunctional family with a dad with custody and lots of drugs and human drama. In Sandra Cantu's case, probably the most bizarre of them all, and also a child of color, there was video of Sandra, lots of speculation of child porn and pedos and a guy who kissed her at the swimming pool. Adji just doesn't have any of this drama in his life.

My thought for increasing media attention would be to really play up the stanger abduction theory, try to get the neighbors to speak about their fears for their children, a killer running loose in the neighborhood or praying on children from unsophisticated families, who don't know how to use LE and the media to their best advantage. To bring the DRAMA back to this case somehow. AND I'm all for using the race issue if it will bring that drama back - that human interest aspect that the media can run with. Adji deserves to be found and brought home.

While I sort of agree, you can't deny that the missing children who stick out in your mind due to frequent media attention are all good looking white kids. Madelaine McCann, Caylee Anothony, Jon Benet, Elizabeth Smart, Natalee Holloway. Name one black kid or other child of colour who the public is well aware of as much as these kids. Trenton Duckett (sorry if I spelt wrong!) is all I can think of.

I have a short paper due Wednesday night for a multicultural ed class and decided to do it on racial disparity in media attention to missing children. I found some good articles on the topic.

I do agree with Salem that the lack of drama hurt Adji's case. Also the language barrier because his family can't get out there and make asses of themselves on tv *LOL* because they don't speak English. They might have some pole dancing, drug dealing, nanny blaming going on but who would know unless you speak Creole?

By the way, I read somewhere this weekend (an old article) that the Law Enforcement in Collier County have made a point of emphasizing his disability in hopes that an abductor will not feel they have to kill him to prevent being identified. He can't give anyone a description of them. It was such a sad story about his mother, too. She can't sleep or eat, she only thinks of her son and what might be happening to him. They need some kind of closure.
