I'm sick of the "bad parent" "good parent" debate.

All I'm going to say is; if being poor means you're a bad parent please take the children from 75% of the country right now. Many have it much worse than this and seem to grow up to be valuable members of society.

This is about a missing 5 yr old girl. Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings. She needs to be found. End of story.

Money does not make a good parent. Is it nice to give your kids all the cool things, sure. Do they learn life's lesson's from them, probably not. A poor family that eats dinner together, learns the value of a dollar, the fear of God & perhaps the reason why God gave little one s a butt is far better than the rich kid who has all the money & cars to do buy drugs, never see's his folks & is alone in his room with his tv, ipod, computer, Wii....

I concur. Everyone seems to be just restating their same opinion over and over and over .... Doubt these arguments have changed anyone's mind one bit. Dead horse.

You're absolutely right, imo. Besides, he was at work, while the g/f was home with the children when Haleigh went missing.

I also feel his grief is very real. No way will I believe he was involved unless there were some real damning evidence.

whether people mean it or not, it comes down to sounding like if you aren't a civic leader, affluent, educated, articulate, white collar, live in a nice house, in town suburbanites, you aren't fit to raise kids.

If the father, girlfriend, neighbor, etc. IS guilty, they should be guilty becuase they are guilty, not becuause of how they live.

Being poor isnt a crime, BUT it can sadly affect how you have to live to a great degree. That doesn't make everyone bad. You can also have a record, but be a reasonable parent.

I am southern, am not wealthy, did not go to college, am a recovering heroin addict with a police record. But none of my crimes or life style choices have involved children, hurting other people, etc. Until I moved last year I regularly babysat my friends two daughters, even during a period of time I was on monitored house arrest. I watched those girls like hawks. Their mother trusted me with them more than she trusted her ex husband, whom she had joint custody with.

Ronald's record suggests that it's likely he served as an informant for LE--
His biggest drug charge in 2002 was ordered Nolle Prosequi -- "do not prosecute or pursue" and then he seems to reoffend and violate probation several times, only to experience very light sanctions and "deferred prosecution" dispositions. IMO his case outcomes and repeated reoffenses during probation periods would normally have resulted in incarceration or a more substantial penalty.

Initially, the media links area only showed his record through 2002-- but it's more extensive.

There's also a dropped restraining order or domestic violence related item in the civil docket. (dropped because the alleged victim (Haleigh's mother) chose not to pursue the matter.

I think the possible informant angle could be important because he likely has a lot of enemies.

I think the custody situation could also provide motive-- it seems like Haleigh's mother lost custody because she didn't appear for a hearing or challenge Ronald, IMO not necessarily because he was the most fit parent for the best interests of the child.

I think this makes sense as well. One thing that stuck out to me was even with his arrest record he was the one that told Misty to call the police and he certainly wasn't putting on a well mannered show for the cops. An active dealer would hesitate to call or attempt to do a clean up of the house first.

I guess all of the "speculating" comes from not having enough facts about Haleigh's disappearance yet, it's early. I can't help but to think of the what if's in this missing child case. One of which is, IF the dad, during a fit of anger hurt Haleigh and she died as a result, I can see the young gf going along with him on the "story" given to police to keep him out of trouble. Hopefully, I am totally wrong and Haleigh is returned unharmed, but the stats, time she has been gone, don't support a good ending...I still hope for it though.

I agree. I also think that may be why he was so adamant that his child was stolen. He may have believed that this was payback. Whether this is the case or not it may have been the first thing that came across his mind and was the reasoning being his anger with Misty. He was adamant about locking that back door and I found it odd to dwell on it. Looking at it this light he could be aware that some of the people he ratted on may have been released from jail and could come looking for him may be the reason he was so sure that he always locks the back door.

In one of his first interviews, I quoted and linked a statement he made.

Knowing how many sexual offenders are in every town, I wonder if any family that has money is doing the best for their children if they don't have an active alarm system, steel reinforced doors, shatterproof glass windows, and an indoor alarm system at night. These things would cut down on some of the home abductions, but most people wouldn't want to spend their money on it all even knowing how dangerous it can be if a lunatic should target their child.

I agree. I think the whole "narc" thing should be looked into. I'm sure if he is an informant, than LE is all over that. It's not something that they would release though...hopefully anyway.

I'm curious. What exactly happens between now and her next birthday that makes her that much more mature and responsible?

Misty just turned 17. She doesn't appear to be a mature 17 year old, imo. Her birthday was in December. She has been with this guy for 5 months. He is 25 years old.
His birthday is in Oct.
So, a 25 year old guy, with a 16 year old girl. He was breaking the law when he laid down with her the first time, and he is breaking the law now!!!
The mother of his children was 14 when she gave birth to Haleigh. He was 2 months short of being 20. He was breaking the law then also.
I'm surprised he isn't a RSO.

When my husband was born his Mother was 14 and his Father was 20, yes they were married. They went on to have five more children. My FIL smoked most of his life( around his children) and passed away at 83 and had been married to the same person over 60 years. All six of their children are healthy and are all now grandparents themselves. i think this line of sleuthing is being over rated. JMHO

It does not matter if it is rich arms or poor arms that hold a child with love. It doesn't matter if it is a rich man or a poor man who sings his child to sleep.
Like flowers need sunshine & water to grow, children need love.

I live in very very nice home, live a very comfortable life. We are blessed, we are educated & have never gone to bed hungry or had our lights cut off.
We have friends who are country club members ( we are not ) and friends who live in single wides. Friends who are white, black, mong, indian, asian.
Different back grounds, different religions, different education levels. RIch doesnt equal good nor does poor equal bad. I know docs who use drugs, my best friend who lives in a double wide would never touch the stuff.

I am not bothered by the economic status of the family, I understand the life style. I am only bothered by what I view as some poor choices to have around children. If we aspire to have our children to do better than we have, let's set them on the right path. You don't have to have money to do that. :blowkiss:

To get an idea of who or how Haleigh may have been taken one does have to look into the family backgrounds. You can be assured the LE is and is weighing the same thing we are but… a past history of problems does not always compute to family being responsible.

great post, I was trying to look the arrest record to see what the past was and that is why I responded to SS, IMO, drug users, habitual violaters, domestic problems, mayabe not so good, but non are perfect...FTR: I don't think the 2 (dad and GF) are involved, but I could be wrong.

In an attempt to bring the uttterly useless debate under control:

What theories do we have so far?
1. Father took her somewhere alive to keep her away from mother and family.
2. Father snapped and killed her for what ever reason before he left and had gf clean up the mess.
3. Father snapped and killed her for what ever reason and gf knows nothing about it.
4. One of the 44 registered sex offenders in the 2 surrounding counties took her for their own purposes.
5. Mother took her either out of a twisted sense of love or to get out of her child support obligation...or even for spite.
6. Complete stragner abduction...albeit an inept, very lucky stranger.
7. Haleigh wandered off on her own sometime during the night and is either deceased in the water or woods or is alie somewhere wandering lost.
8. Stranger abduction due to drug debts or gambling debts from the side of the grandparents or parents.
9. Abduction by member's of gf's family for unknown reasons.
10. Abduction by mother's family either with or without mother's knowledge.

Are there any I missed, barring alien abduction and black holes?

I'm afraid I wouldn't be welcomed back in that store..
That was a horrible thing to say to anyone who cares enough to put down everything they are doing for the day to help find a child..
But you know what they say about Karma...
