whether people mean it or not, it comes down to sounding like if you aren't a civic leader, affluent, educated, articulate, white collar, live in a nice house, in town suburbanites, you aren't fit to raise kids.
If the father, girlfriend, neighbor, etc. IS guilty, they should be guilty becuase they are guilty, not becuause of how they live.
Being poor isnt a crime, BUT it can sadly affect how you have to live to a great degree. That doesn't make everyone bad. You can also have a record, but be a reasonable parent.
I am southern, am not wealthy, did not go to college, am a recovering heroin addict with a police record. But none of my crimes or life style choices have involved children, hurting other people, etc. Until I moved last year I regularly babysat my friends two daughters, even during a period of time I was on monitored house arrest. I watched those girls like hawks. Their mother trusted me with them more than she trusted her ex husband, whom she had joint custody with.
