Haleigh's grandmother, Marie Griffiths, told Channel 4 the little girl would never willing go with a stranger, but she still has hope the 5-year-old is alive.

"Haleigh is living and breathing. I don't feel that there's anything that has happened to her bad," Griffiths said.

Investigators have ruled out the possibility the girl may have wandered off in the middle of the night because she's afraid of the dark. However, Haleigh's mother confirmed there was in an incident a few years ago in which the child wandered to a canal near their back yard and was found floating face down.

Sheffield and investigators insist that incident has nothing to do with the current situation.

"Just bring my baby home," Sheffield said on Wednesday.

"She's a baby. She needs her mother, and she needs her family. She don’t need to be out there with strangers if that's where she's at. We want her home. Y'all bring her to her mother if you don’t want to take her anywhere else," Griffiths said.

So is the mother stating she has wondered off before and fell in a canal? Betting this why Dad has custody.

True.

Technically speaking, the father in this case is a felon (not yet convicted, of course) and a sex offender who would have to register as well. LE should be looking at him just as hard as they look at any of the other registered offenders in the area. Why should he get a pass?

I must have missed something, I haven't read all through the last thread by why is the father a felon?

Can you prove he is sleeping with her? All we know is that she was sleeping with his kids while he was working.

The OTHER men we are discussing here molested and sexually assaulted children. HUGE difference between them and a 17 year old dating a man that is 24 years old!! She is old enough to date him, imo. I think the law should be changed. (Her parents must believe it is OK or they would not allow it.)

Tonight on Nancy, Ronald said the kids were in bed by 8 like they were every night. Who lets a 5 YO stay up till 10 on a school night?

I don't know if the bedtime has been confirmed. I've seen a few media sources report that she was put into bed at 8, but that the girlfriend went to bed at 10. But, I've also heard everyone went to bed at 10. With all the inconsistencies in the news reporting of this case it's so hard to tell what time she actually went to bed.

Here we go again. Either I have totally misunderstood the previous stories, or something is way off.
I heard it as- the G/F tucked in kids at 8. She went to bed at 10. G/F went to the bathroom at 3:30, came back and discovered Haliegh missing.

SS I have often worried that because the Caylee case got soooo big, that some nut case somewhere would commit another crime because of it. If that makes sense. LE is probably on top of it...I would think.

I'll bet they are very on top of things...

Picking apart? Registered sex ofenders? And the Dad should be arrested? I don't know what to say.
No one said Dad should be arrested right now. Facts were just stated that Dad commtted a felony by chosing to live with a 17 yr. old. I am hoping that all those sex offenders living in that area were also young adult men who slept with 17 yr. olds. But I guess that is wishful thinking.
Me still thinks that when "all the pieces of the puzzle don't fit together" when the gf and dad start telling what happened then something is wrong. I think others say it better on here..."my hinky meter is going off".

I thought that the gf found the child missing, in this report it says...
Fox News supposedly has the police report, and this is a snip from and link to their story:

Haleigh, her 2-year-old brother and Croslin went to bed in the same room in the family's mobile home at about 10 p.m. Monday night, investigators said. Croslin told deputies the little girl got up between 3 and 3:30 a.m. to go to the bathroom.

About the same time, Cummings arrived home from work. When they went into the bedroom, he and Croslin say they discovered that Haleigh had vanished.

So what is the real story here?
Too, has anyone been able to confirm that the child was actually put to sleep in that house? Was there dishes from dinner that supported more than one child? What about the clothes she wore to school that day? Could she have wondered off during the daylight?

I think this is where the problem is, maybe we need to hear the exact timing of events from LE or get a police report ourselves..Another news report says that "they" found she was missing after he returned home from work.

Tonight on NG, the father said she went to be around 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm. If he was at work, he isn't going to know for certain so he has to rely on what she is telling him she did at home.
