There is a ******** account set up for a private investigation to keep the search going. Looks like they've raised 348,500 in 4 days.

BBM

Just jumping off your post.

How did the boys get the boat to the gas station and to the boat launch? Did they haul it there or did someone haul it for them? I don't recall hearing. TIA

You can fill up at the marina if you don't mind the higher price.

i agree with everything you said except the timing. It was initially reported by the mother that they went out about 11:00AM. In actuality, they were observed motoring out of the inlet just as the storm was hitting. The fisherman who reported seeing them said that it was notable because all of the other boats were coming in.

I can't see them sitting around for 3 hours with a boat full of fuel. They left the Marina around 11, according to their fuel receipt. The marina is maybe a 5-10 min boat ride from the inlet, which puts them in the inlet at the time on the video that JPD has.

About the epirbs---there's small, newer models that let the Coast Guard know your location within ** 10 YARDS** and should be kept in one's ditch bag. $600.00

There's something cheaper called a "Spot" that is capable of neat features which interacts with Smartphones & is waterproof.....about $150.00.....doesn't send the distress to the a Coast Guard but has an S.O.S feature. Very cool!

It helps if you have a handheld satellite phone which works anywhere in the world. $1,000.00 + monthly plan fees.

One can always set the Coast Guard on speed dial as well.

But two 14 year olds probably wouldn't know about all this or think it's important.

We must mentor our youth; even if they show resistance. Very important!

I would bet a lot of people heard of the Yeti brand due to this tragedy. Unintentional advertising, maybe I should say awareness of the brand. My husband and I looked up their coolers on Amazon. Nice!
They sell these at the hardware store down the street. VERY VERY expensive!

That seems to be a previous article... This one is from the 27th.

"Since Friday, the boys’ families have called Krizka asking for details, he said. And he went through the trash to find the boys’ receipt to determine what time they were at the marina."

As I mentioned in other posts the gulf stream off Jupiter and Port of Pam Beach is 1-2 miles from shore. You can see the color change in the water.I fished it for a few years in a 16ft..You can still see shore that is how close it is.

New to this thread, been watching this story. I am sure this has been asked/answered before, but does anyone have an idea of how many miles you can travel in a boat like the boys had, with $110 worth of gas?... providing there was no storm or any other problems. Hoping beyond hope for a miracle. Thanks!

The Palm beach post(local newspaper) link is an interview with the marina clerk who dug the receipt out of the trash after the families called him for information. It's from 7/27.

The wsvn link (Broward county tv station) is from the 24th, and updated on the 25th.

I don't know the gas mileage, but it was just over 25gal of gas. There may have already been fuel on board, though; and it's unknown how much is left in it. The FWC will be doing the vessel casualty investigation once the boat is back in Jupiter.

So now they are bashing the coast guard and navy for stopping search after sundown. They are signing a petition.
The US Coast Guard and the US Navy will suspend their "Search and Rescue" efforts and shift to a "Recovery Effort" at sundown today. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

<modsnip>

I feel the coast guard has gone over and beyond to look for these boys. They know the outcome after this long.I believe they were out there with no fresh water and food if alive for a few days. The coast guard can only do so much and we are talking about taxpayers money. The ocean can be harsh with temps and salt, not to mention sharks.I feel for the parents but it just may be time to face reality.

I stripped the link out because I'm THAT against this. What a slap in the face to the hundreds of people that worked 24/7 for a WEEK to find those boys. This makes me so angry...I've been stewing on this, watching this link being plastered all over my FB feed by friends, etc. and I've held my tongue. After the absolute MESS that group created yesterday with those altered buoy pictures and hundreds of calls to the USCG about them.... I'm livid.

Ok, I'm officially off the fb page. Some psychic has posted that a dolphin is bringing fish to Austin to keep him alive.
