Wow!!!!!!!!!! Still listening to rebuttal. Did not think verdict would come in today! Defense effed up by choosing 6 person jury given the previous jury’s poll!

yessssssssssss I think he’s a shoo in for DP!

Curious to hopefully hear from jury after it’s all over.
I do wonder at what point jury felt like they could basically phone it in. I mean. They have to choose a Forman, each individually speak their opinion..Do some jury housekeeping...Fill out paperwork. 3hrs 45 min.
It appears they as a group were not buying the defense fairytale from beginning of deliberating. We will see.
MOO

hmmm you think they phoned it in? I see it as they were able to see through the weeds very quickly and probably had each pretty much settled on guilt before deliberations.

Exactly.
That’s what I mean by - they could of phoned it in.
They had decided before they went into deliberations.
The 3 .45 were probably spent jury housekeeping & writing up the guilty counts.

Just some stray thoughts:

6 person jury was a colossal mistake!

Santos was a big mistake for the defense as was Segura’s testimony. Segura convicted himself through his lies and hostility on the stand.

Defense’s best option was to not put up a case and argue reasonable doubt.

I was wrong about Mr. Prince. His closing was unhinged and he made a lot of bad decisions that bit his client in the behind.

Having said that idk how tf we go from 8-4 for acquittal in 19 hours to guilty in 4 hours?!

I see what you’re saying. I know that when I was on a jury I pretty much was convinced of guilt at the end of closings. I remember there was one particular piece of evidence that convinced me without a doubt. I guess it’s possible that someone could’ve pointed out some reasonable doubt that I didn’t consider but they didn’t.

It sounds like all 6 of them were pretty much at guilt’s door by the end of closing. At that point there isn’t much to discuss. Probably go over what convinced them and be done with it.

I am just catching up with the comments about this trial with you wonderful Websleuths. I have been watching this case on Court TV and really didn't know what the jury would decide.

I did think that the defense attorney had a much more appealing demeanor and did a knock out job at raising doubt. What was the most condemning thing against Segura? It seemed that the prosecution was hanging a lot on the fact that he lied that he had been there at the victims home that day and about his second cell phone. I pray to God that they got this right --I look at those little faces and can't imagine the demon who could do this. =(

Two major things happened in the retrial, add that with a smaller jury and I can see it taking way less time...just my thoughts
  • Santos plead the FIFTH when he took the stand in the first trial but his name was thrown out there as having confessed to the murders
  • This trial/jury was able to see Santos for what he was a crazy liar
  • Washington took the stand in first trial and implicated two other inmates he was housed with as committing the murders
  • Washington refused to testify this round

That seems to be my (un)luck too. My biggest passion (and the case that brought me to WS) is the Dan Markel case and it’s a given that whenever I have to sign off because of work or errands, something in regards to the case will happen.

OT: Dan Markel case, have you had a chance to watch the full WA police interview yet?

My luck too and sometimes even when I stay glued my youtube video goes into the next one so I am sitting here thinking I am watching current testimony until I realize I have heard it before:oops:

I have not watched the whole WA interview yet, but I will this evening. I’m planning on flying to FL for the KM retrial + a visit with my dad. If you are in the area I’d love to meet up for the trial if you’re open to it. (Or if anyone else would like to meet up for the retrial I am all in). Just let me know!
