When they were in Tampa, PS was traveling about every 6 weeks -- to the Middle East, to Germany, to Texas. Trips for one day up to 7 months on long-term deployment (2008-2009).
When PS gone for 7 months, no one in the home to help Julie. His mother was available from time to time.
As children were growing up, Julie's relationship with the children before coming to Tampa was fine. They looked forward to coming to Tampa, warmer weather by the water, having a fun car.
Eventually, they began to discuss PS ending his military career. PS got a one-year extension to remain in Tampa beyond their 3 years. He didn't want to move the kids again as they were going into high school. He decided to leave military. PS Mom visited on occasion, but did not move to Florida.
When PS gone for 7 months, no one in the home to help Julie. His mother was available from time to time.

As they moved from location to location, Julie received medical treatment. PS worked with Julie's doc in Maryland to find a doc in Germany that was doing the same kind of treatment that was helping her. He did not keep up with her meds or her appointments. She was going to the mental heath professionals as well as the kids' doc appointments. She also had some physical issues -- couple surgeries -- one for shoulder, knee surgery, elective plastic surgery. Shoulder surgery ski injury, knee injury volleyball or maybe tennis injury. Parker also had surgeries.
When children moved to Tampa, Calyx in middle school, Beau in elementary school. They attended public school. When they moved to New Tampa, they changed schools. Calyx wanted to stay at Benito Middle School, and they supported her staying there for a year. Beau took the bus to elementary and middle school. Calyx walked to school when they lived nearby, then Julie drove her to school in 8th grade.
Kids were active in extracurricular activies - Beau - soccer & flag football; Calyx running. Julie got them to their activities, both parents attended their games. Calyx an artist, which Julie encouraged, and they worked on projects together.

Julie was a smoker the entire time PS knew her.
PS and JS were social drinkers -- a couple drinks a week. Not the focus of their life. One time when they were in Germany (2004?) at a formal event, Julie had "a little too much -- a lot too much" -- but in his mind, that was an isolated event.
PS never took measures to remove alcohol from the home.
His father had issues with alcohol. He was familiar with alcoholism.

The relationship between JS and Calyx began to deteriorate as she finished middle school.
Calyx approached her parents and requested to enter the International Bachalaureate program at King High school. She felt it would prepare her better to get into a top university. Both parents agreed. Calyx was a good student.
Julie kept up with the kids' grades, after-school activities, schedules, etc. Calyx was part of a neighborhood carpool to get to school and back.
PS would communicate with the family via cell phone or email or texts when in the U.S.; when overseas, he would communicate through email, phone calls and video chat

Parker often preferred communicating via email rather than calling Julie, when he was out of town. He doesn't like using phone.
He also would email when he was in town, when he was at work.
Parker was rank of Colonel since 2006.
