Thank you!!! Dr Otto confirmed my gut reaction about PS & JS - felt he was emotionally abusive....her needs were not important, appearances were paramount.....and his desires etc. Of course he was love of her life .....

He said he was swayed by her journal entries and her report to Dr. Myers that she intended to kill her children.

She described a strained relationship with her daughter that started when C started 9th grade at King High School. C would ignore her.

When she spoke about her daughter, she had a tone of fondness -- not angry, or resentful.

When she spoke about her husband, she described him as emotionally abusive, putting her needs secondary to his for much of the marriage. He wanted to have the appearance of a perfect family for his military career. She had a lot of animosity, but also said he was the love of her life. She reported that she felt he had been shutting her out, neglected her when she was hospitalized. Concerned about her perception of an impending divorce.

She acknowledged abusing alcohol and taking prescription pain medication for "emotional pain."

She did not like Windmoor. Not a positive experience. Wanted to leave early. She was angry at hsb because he wouldn't take her home early.

His opinion is that JS was not experienced delusions at or around the time of the murders.

The belief that the world is horrible is not a delusion. The belief that if you die, you won't experience the world is not a delusion.

Her fear that Beau would be molested because he was smaller than most kids was anchored in her own experience, and an incident when he had a sleepover and there was a much older boy there. She said her daughter had been bullied by an older boy.

Dr. O thinks she had heightened concern, but not a fixed, false belief that they were being abused or would be.

Her fear that her daughter was at risk for mental illness was not a delusion -- it was reality. It was not a fixed, false belief. She indicated that her daughter had expressed suicidal intent twice -- which would be verification that her fears were actually reality.
