Her motives for the murders were non-psychotic.

JS knew what she was doing, based on her journal entries -- an apology letter to Parker -- on Sun, in her journal entry she spoke of wanting to do a Sat. massacre. After the acts, she talked about how she did them. She spoke of cremating bodies, memorial service. She spoke of how she couldn't shoot herself after seeing the destruction she caused to her children after she shot it.

She wasn't psychotic when she saw her therapist on Jan 20.

When she went to the gun store, she did not appear psychotic -- she was well-groomed, friendly.

She put post-it notes on the front door -- showing deception

Calendar notes -- cancel this, cancel that, unless you want to go on your own.

Spontaneous utterances at the scene: "My husband is going to be so distraught" "I wanted to shoot myself but I fell asleep"

1/28 interview w/ Tampa Police Dept. Dr. Stein says she was able to describe the number of shots, where they were located, able to provide info about how she was feeling, and why she did what she did. In this interview, not always relevant, but her basic info was right on.

1/29 interview at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Stein says JS talked about she felt her husband was applying for divorce, he'd lost his compassionate self, he did not teach the children compassion, "I planned, planned and planned," she indicates she had screwed up, she was a failure because she didn't take herself out. During this interview she was coherent, relevant.

At jail, "I shot my kids" "I want to be in Heaven with my kids"

Dr. Stein: #JulieSchenecker had times in police interview where she was relevant and accurate @ what happened ~ more times than incoherent

that's how I interpreted what she JS was saying (paraphrasing) they had all lost their humanity (loss of compassion, love and understanding)

When JS asked, "Are my kids coming later?" - she was clearly incoherent and impaired. She'd just shot her children. Many people who commit murder have a dissociative episode where they come in and out of reality following. Also, she was under the influence of toxic levels of Lithium and Coumadin poisoning -- people in this condition can be confused, shaky, slur their words

Says JS's shakiness and appearance at time of arrest was a combo of shock, her TD, and Lithium toxicity

At the time of the killings, the defendant knew that her actions were wrong:
1/28 interview "this is the worst thing I've done in my life"
Said she couldn't tell anyone about her plan because it would be thwarted.
Said her husband would be distaught
Unless there's evidence that a person is so grossly psychotic that they're out of touch with reality, they understand the wrongfulness.

Dr. Stein: Beau told her to put gun away, #JulieSchenecker told her a toy gun ~ had to reflect if i'm going to carry this out, better lie

JS was able to reason and reflect - therefore, no reason to believe she would not know the wrongfulness

Example: she knew she had to make people believe she was getting a gun for other reasons, pulled the car into the garage, put notes on front door so people would think the family was away, was functional on that day (running kids to soccer and track), went to casino that day, but knew she'd have to be home by 4, when Beau got home. Gave instructions for PS - give my clothes to so and so,etc. Said when she was on way to soccer practice, and Beau saw the gun, she told him it was a toy gun. She understood the lethality of the weapon.
