I'm positive little Duane suffered severe pain as a result............did they ever take him to the doctor? deformed ribs? I never heard of that one.......no medical consultation?
I read an article which described Duane's condition when EMT arrived at the home. He was lying on the floor between the door and the wall (???), and blood was coming from his nose and mouth. I believe it said that she had taken him to the doctor, and the doctor said he was all right. I can't recall all of the details. It was difficult to read. At the time I'd been reading other articles, and already was upset. So I closed the tab quickly. If anyone comes across that article, please post the link.

Your question made me curious so I decided to do a tiny bit of research and found this interesting article. Here's the section on abuse trauma:
From http://pubs.rsna.org/doi/full/10.1148/radiographics.22.1.g02ja1287
Radiographics: Pediatric Ribs: A Spectrum of Abnormalities
Trauma

Child Abuse.—
Fractures of the ribs with child abuse are well described and are considered highly specific for child abuse (21). Rib fractures are rare with accidental injury and are unlikely to arise from cardiopulmonary resuscitation (22). Although abuse fractures can occur along any part of the ribs, they are more common in the posterior arc because of the significant posterior levering force inflicted in the abuse situation. Healing fractures are more easily detectable than in the acute phase. Not all fractures are detectable with conventional radiography; some require high-detail radiography, scintigraphy, or CT. The presence of acute and healing rib fractures is diagnostic of abuse (Fig 23). Other diagnostic signs are metaphyseal “corner” fractures, retinal hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhage, and subdural hygroma. The most important differentialdiagnoses to consider are osteogenesis imperfecta, long-term ventilator therapy in prematurity, birth trauma, and Menkes syndrome

In home as meaning someone went to the home? In forty five minutes the supervisor typed in home and passed it to the counselor, who was the one that made the final decision. There is nothing on the call logs of anyone making any calls. So, who "made" that in home visit?

Here it is.

Duane died in 2014 at two weeks old. Reports show the baby’s nose was bleeding and his body was turning blue. An officer says Bury said “I killed my baby.” That led to a search warrant and homicide investigation. The case was later closed when the Sarasota County Medical Examiner determined the baby died of a kidney infection.

Thanks. The one I read was more in depth. I just read it this week, so it should still be around. I'll keep looking.

This baby was two weeks old, though. Would you think he had chronic GN?

I don't know. I searched kidney infection and bloody nose symptom. A bunch of links came up so I just posted the first one to show the connection. On my iPad I can't go back and forth with copying and pasting, but it appears for whatever reason bloody noses can be a symptom of kidney infections.

I read it, too and will try to help look. I remember it said Duane was face down on the floor.

Again, a two week old baby found face down on the floor with a bloody nose. And the ME says kidney infection. :gaah:

add deformed ribs.found behind a DOOR!.
.......BBM Why on earth would your dear sweet 2 week old by on the floor face down? OMG! Sorry but wouldn't you be rocking and loving your baby in a blanket and sobbing???
This IMOO was abuse and neglect! Love to hear more from the EMT's.............was the floor dirty as I expect? Dog around? Yee Gads can this get any worse? Hey grandparents where were you guys?? neighbors?? Everyone left these babies just die at the hands of 2 idiots!

Never heard of kidney infection causing a bloody nose...

Perhaps the kidney infection caused the baby to become septic. Disseminated Intravascular Coagulopathy is a complication of severe sepsis. Patients with DIC have massive hemorrhage with bleeding from any orifice so a massive nosebleed would fit with that. If that was the actual cascade of events then I suppose you could say that the kidney infection, at least indirectly, caused the nosebleed.

Of course, DIC can also result from trauma...

Would the ME still rule kidney infection if it was sepsis? TIA

Thank you so much for your information! Do you think Duane's DX would be considered acute or chronic (if his DX was DIC)? Considering his age, I am leaning towards acute, however peds deteriorate quicker than adults. I appreciate your input!

I think the article said duane was found on the floor between the playpen and the door
He was not breathing.

I'm really surprised at the minimum criminal history KB has. I thought there would be much more in the way of drug related charges. We know she had at least one rehab stint prior to her involvement with JW, so she can't say that problem was all on him. I guess she just had good luck at skirting LE up to this point.

In her WritersNetwork bio, she said she'd been incarcerated for a long time, which is how she discovered her love of writing. But looking at her Sarasota offense dates (just at a glance), I don't see any "long time" where she would have been incarcerated (and therefore not getting any new charges).
