So, let me get this straight .. we can charge people with child endangerment when they put their child in jeopardy and their child is still here to tell the tale.

"Tanning booth devotee Patricia Krentcil has pleaded not guilty to charges of child endangerment, after allegations that she allowed her five-year-old daughter to use a sunbed."

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/201...other-new-jersey-child-sunbed-_n_1473948.html

But we should not charge people with child endangerment when they put their child in jeopardy and their child goes missing or is found dead? (Levon Wameling .. Cherish Perrywinkle .. .. and there are plenty more).

How often to perps approach parents to get at their kid? Sadly, that did happen in this case, but before this case, how often did you hear about that? This woman didn't have enough money to buy her daughter a dress in a dollar store. She was vulnerable and unfortunately this <expletive deleted> took advantage of that. IMO, money was a major factor in her unfortunate decision, but from what I can tell, she wanted the money at least in part for the benefit of her kids. It's true that she could have called a halt at any point, but the perp is an experienced con, capable of schmoozing hardened criminals, and he built up her trust, despite her gut feelings. IMO, she fully expected him to return, but she had reservations about her decisions, including how they would look to other people, even while hoping there was a perfectly rational explanation for the delay (flat tire/out of gas etc).

Parents let their kids swim because swimming is generally a healthy activity. Parents drive with their kids in the car because they have made quality of life tradeoffs and need to get different places. But statistically these are fairly dangerous activities and sometimes parents regret a choice (though no one else would fault them) for the rest of their lives. RP did not do everything she could to protect her kids but we make decisions within a context. I've never been in a position of being unable to afford to buy a dress for my child in a dollar store and I've never had to foil a manipulative con man. I hope and expect I will never have to face that, but if I do I will remember this case. I think one constructive thing people can do is raise awareness that perps will at least sometimes try to gain the confidence of a parent before snatching a child. That is something that I was unaware of before. If all parents are more aware of this possibility in the future, even vulnerable parents will become less likely to make the same sort of decision as RP.

I agree that this mom trusted too much, maybe she thought the monster was interested in her, not cherish. But it is done. This angel lost her life and no amount of finger pointing will bring her back. There are however two other sweet babies who call her mommy.

I wish rather than try to save money the state would truly help single moms.

RSBM

Just want to point out that RP is really not a single mum. She may or may not be unmarried but she is/was living with her partner - the father of her two youngest girls. And Cherish had an actively interested, participating and supportive father.

And if she was overwhelmed she could have just given custody of Cherish to her father. But it sounds like she fought it tooth and nail.

Being a parent is a tough job, a 24/7 job. Children need to feel a sense of protection given by their parents. Providing love alone to a child is not enough.

Personally, if you're not up to the job, are too self-absorbed, have addiction or mental health issues, or can barely rub two nickles together then think twice before becoming a parent.
Children aren't placed on this earth to fill another person's (parents) void.

The mark of an excellent parent is raising healthy, independent adults that contribute positively to our society. Parenting is about giving, not taking.

And the least you could do as a parent is keep your children far away from anyone that gives you the "creeps".......puh-leaze!

all moo

This is the best post I have read in a very long time. Sums it up nicely for me. Having one oopsie baby is fine, but people have multiple kids when they know that they arent able to support one child, let alone more emotionally, physically, and financially is childish and irresponsible.

I say get the mother some help whatever her needs may be and get those children away from both parents. Who apparently have no job, lack stability, and may or may not be mentally ill.

Let me add, this mother is not a single mom. She has a partner at home, she is 45 not some young 20 something year old mom. Her real name isnt even Rayne Perrywinkle.

Madamreporter, welcome to bizarro land! lol! I have very strong opinions on procreation and our so called "rights" to reproduce, but i'll just shut it for now.

Do NOT bash or accuse the mother here. Let LE do their investigation. Unless LE names her as some sort of accomplice, she is a victim in this case.

Does anyone have a link to the 911 call or transcript, please?

We have only been exposed to what is in MSM right now. We do not have the entire case file in front of us. I have been searching myself and do not see anything that has been revealed. If anyone finds any more articles please share. I am sure that there will be a resurgance (sp) on the 16th as that is when the so has a hearing of some sort.

JMO but the mother made bad choices and will have to live with that the rest of her life. So far she iS not on trial here. JMO

Yep, the mother made bad choices that Cherish painfully paid for with her life, and Cherish’s father, sisters, and extended family will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

Perhaps a civil trial will ensue.

Worse part IMO Cherish was out with her mother, she was not alone and should have been protected.Cherish is the one who was raped then strangled and left in the dirt.IMO She was the victim of 2 people on that Friday.RP was a danger to her child just as Cherish's father and the family court evaluator said she was.She did not have to become a victim. There are still 2 minor children in a home where neither parent seems to have any sense as far as children are concerned.Neither parent has made any statements except to blame the true victim for her own demise, and to stick up for the others very poor judgement where children are concerned. My husband would never have been okay with my children and I being in a bad area at night,or thinking everything was oaky dokey if I hopped in a strangers van with my kids. This is not normal behavior for parents. If you are so poor then go to McDonalds and get a job. This is not a 16 or 17 yr old single mom this is a 45 yr old and a father of 2 who both have very poor judgement. She should be charged with child endangerment and neglect at the very least. Some rather live off a child support check and the system instead of being responsible parents. I use to have more sympathy but I have learned that people make their own beds and unfortunately too many child pay a very high price for the life the grown ups in their life chose. My tears are for Cherish, and her 2 siblings who I fear are not in a good home.

ETA Now that Cherish's support check is no more and the family is now a family of 4 instead of 5 any food stamps or Government benefits this family received will also be cut down. That leaves them less money each month. The kindness of strangers will fade away and seems to have as more things come out locally and where will the children be then?

I've not seen the 911 call or transcript posted yet, just the incident recap (Linked in the Timeline and Media Links). JSO has gone quiet for the moment; given their pattern in other crimes I expect both JSO and SAO to stay that way until Smith's next court date 7/16, unless the SAO is pressed harder by the media in the interim. (Plus our SAO has all the publicity they can typically handle right now since they're working out of town on the Zimmerman trial in Sanford).

MOO.

Someone above on this page posted a link to a 14 page timeline of sorts with notes (my local precinct called them cad notes). Reading them it is not an actual word for word transcript though.

Re the children being taken away from RP. THANK GOODNESS!!!! It is about time. Now let RP learn how to support herself without using child support and gov't benefits.
