We've yet to discuss that included in the released discovery docs, a police interview with DS's mother is included. Earlier the same day that he raped and murdered Cherish, his mother went with him to meet his drug dealer so she could settle ol' DS's crack bill.

And, knowing he's a registered sex offender, and has tried to lure children in his past, she's totes cool with him driving her seatless creeper van and being gone with it all night.

Can you say enabler?

I'm going off memory and I'm too tired/lazy to look it up, but I *think* the drug debt thing was done with the guy that was renting the room from his mother?

Hmm. I'm reading from page 36. The renter is mentioned as being present during the interview with Mom.....but it reads, "Moore (DS's mom) advised her son is addicted to crack cocaine.....Moore advised she took Smith to (blah blah blah address) yesterday because Smith owed a drug dealer $150. Moore said she paid the debt, then returned home......."

The renter mentions that Smith allegedly traded one of his phones for drugs. And that the renter ever so kindly helped DS remove the rear seat from the van. Cause....you need more room in the back for your AA meeting?

She also mentioned she knew he didn't have any cash but that he received his food stamps in the mail yesterday, and showed the cop the food stamp card.

It's always so gratifying to hear about those special times when our tax dollars can provide food so that unemployed crackheads can focus more of their energy on buying crack, raping babies, and living rent free with their enabling moms. :furious:

Okay, you are correct, I was reading too quickly.

That is one sick "mother".

Agreed. IMO, about the only people involved in this mess, who have clean hands, and are true victims in my mind, are Cherish, and her two sisters. (Her bio dad too, but he's not tied to the event in any way.)

I thought I remember that the neighbors knew DS was a sex offender.....I wonder if the renter knew.

*I* usually read too quickly and get all sorts of stuff confuzzled, and also have been known to cross cases....so I wasn't convinced *I* wasn't wrong about what I remembered, lol. :scared:

You and I are on the same page. Imo, she knew damn well what DS left Walmart to do. She may have expected him to come back, but I'm not so sure anymore.

I totally agree with you.

I don't think she expected him to kill her child, but in my opinion (and i'm wording this carefully) she knew exactly what he wanted to pay for that night ... and I don't mean her dresses.

MOO.

Anyone following the status of Cherish's two surviving siblings, it looks like there will be a hearing Thursday.

By phone, their grandfather Thomas Pearson told Action News he wants the girls back with the family. Several family members are willing, but a judge has to decide what's in the little girls' best interest.

The girls' mother Rayne Perrywinkle is expected to appear in court to discuss custody on Thursday.

I have not read any documents and this time I think it is better for my own sanity not too.Thank you everyone for sharing. All the cases involving children hit me hard(like everyone here) but this one has hit like a ton of bricks. My son has been fighting for years to get custody of his son who lives in a home classified as high risk of abuse by DYFS.It is so unfair when the family courts and DYFS keep children in unsafe homes. When they have decent fathers who care and try their best to fight for custody but family courts refuse to see the truth that not every female is fit to be a mother. Some just see the child as an ATM, a way to not work just work the system.
There but for the grace of God, go I runs threw my mind every time I come to check on Cherish s thread.

There are live tweets from a Jacksonville.com reporter...

Derek Gilliam @gilliam_derek

Electronic recording and cameras not allowed in courtroom during juvenile dependency hearings per Magistrate Denise DeLorenzo

I'll post anything substantive as it comes in....

Derek Gilliam @gilliam_derek

Hearing lasted 3 minutes. "Maintain status quo." Children to stay in foster care.

Wow. That's it?

Wow. That's it?

ETA: Grateful it looks like the judge sees the safety and value of the stability the girls have in their current foster care placement. This is probably the most stable, consistent, healthy environment they've ever experienced in their young lives.

A person speaking on behalf of the state Thursday recommended the courts “maintain the status quo” and keep the children in foster care. Currently Pearson has limited visitation rights and Perrywinkle has no visitation with the children, a court official said.
“They are doing great and receiving all the services that they need,” a child care advocate said.

It also says neither Rayne nor Aharon spoke at the hearing.

Wow no visitation, glad to see they are putting the children first.

In that same conversation Smith told his mother how he couldn't go to prison because he knew he would be raped and murdered there. He talked about how if he was on death row, his death would be simple, happy and peaceful.

Oh, boo-hoo. You think the prospect of being raped and murdered is scary? Imagine being EIGHT YEARS OLD....and raped and murdered. I hope you live in prison in utter bowel quaking terror for many, many years Donald Smith, before they execute you.

That is all.

From the same article:

But Smith's most surprising statement was made during a jail visit with his mother. Officers who listened to a recording of the two talking say Smith wanted his mother to get him a DSM-4 book -- a book that highlights psychiatric problems. Smith said he could use that to find out what level he needs to qualify for treatment.

Huh? He needed the DSM-4 book so he can decide what 'level' he needs to suddenly exhibit signs/symptoms for the psychiatrists' benefit?
