Even if the judge does allow it where is the defense going with it? If he gets death he'll be segregated. It's almost as if they're saying, "he needs to be segregated, so choose death."

I'm confused.

Could it be some type of reverse psychology? Seems to be a foregone conclusion that he deserves everything that could happen to him so maybe the jury would give him life in the odds he may suffer more? Very bizarre thought even to me.
