I live in a 25 year old mobile home under a bunch of trees. I can't tent or use bug sprays because I rescue animals and can't have any sort of chemicals in the house. So... we are as clean as possible and squash anything that comes in the house, also I have boric acid tablets where none of my lovely critters can reach them.

HOWEVER, a roach "fell" from my ceiling today while I was in the shower and I screeched - but moments later, I thought "Man, some of those folks on websleuths are going to figure me for a daughter killer." :-D

Nah! We'll need more than one roach. Dare I ask, was there an odor of urine, or WORSE??

Whose wouldn't? Occasionally, crumbs can be found all over my house, with kids coming over and our dogs. We have no roaches though.
I meant that that rotten food would meet the criteria for opened garbage can, sorry if I wasn't clear. Although a crumb doesn't stand a chance in my house if my Lab finds it beofre me:D She's like a four legged hoover.

I am not sure if cockroaches will multiply faster in areas of food but I can tell you that even a spotless house can be infested.

They will eat glue and a covered garbage can means nothing since they can get into the tiniest of spaces.

Sprays do not work as you cannot spray the nests inside the walls.

Oh I just made a quick reply! Hope I didn't seem to be "dogging" you :p

My one dog eats almost anything except olives and lemons.
I have dropped a lot of stuff onthe floor and those are the only two things he hasn't gone for.
My boyfriend and I hear him snorting like a hog, sniffing around looking for crumbs... we call it "crummin'". :D

Does anybody know if the owned the house or rented it? I find it hard to believe that it would past inspection for a sale. If they rented it and the roaches were there when they moved in they could have witheld rent until the problem was solved or they had a right to get out of their lease. Nobody has to live with these bugs. If someone has a termite problem, an easy fix until the Orkin guy comes is to spray where they are entering with WD40. It will stop them immediately. We have a good friend that is in the business.
Renting.

Man, I hate roaches. All these comments have my skin crawling. I have outside roaches except when someone moves.I am calling for the exterminator tomorrow.

I grew up with the flying roaches in Louisiana. I hate anything that jumps at me. They were everywhere. If you turned a light on get ready for an attack. This is one of my worst childhood memories.Of course, I grew up in filth. Too many children and not enough of anything else. So, I may be a bit bias in this case.

But, I believe children come first and foremost. My children never knew any of this. My inbetween years were raising the best I could do and overly protected them. But, they are great adults (although one is pretty sick) and I think that is what we have to do. Make these humans the best that they can be and forego the crap. Let them remember family dinners and such and keep what you actually went through away so they can develop. It sn't denial but it isn't pushing it in a child's face.

Something is wrong in this case. I see so much dysfunction. I am sorry but neglect is so apparent to me.

When the addition was added onto my house, I went through and sprinkled boric acid inside all the walls before the drywall was put up. I'm hoping that will help repel anything that tries to crawl through any cracks.

NORTH PORT -- A state pediatrician examined Coralrose Fullwood's four youngest siblings Tuesday, but the Department of Children & Families did not release its findings.

The children's grandfather, Saul VanderWoude, said the children seemed "all right" when they returned to his Lee County home. The medical examinations included sexual abuse evaluations.

"They are rolling with the punches," he said. "That's three-quarters of the battle."

Coralrose was found dead two blocks from her North Port home on Sept. 17. The state took the remaining Fullwood children from their parents. A court document said Coralrose's death was suspicious for abuse.

Last week in Sarasota, Circuit Court Judge Rick De Furia ordered that the children be placed in the custody of their grandparents and examined to ensure that the children are healthy. Family members objected.

Investigators are still piecing together what happened to Coralrose. Police have not named any suspects and say they have not ruled out family members.

Preliminary autopsy reports show Coralrose died of "homicidal violence" and suffered "severe trauma." Reports show she was not sexually assaulted.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents continued Tuesday to join North Port detectives at the police station. The agents have been working with the department in the investigation of Coralrose's murder.

Meanwhile, the police presence in the community where Coralrose lived is starting to dwindle. Parked patrol units have left the neighborhood streets and detectives have not been spotted.

North Port police Chief Terry Lewis said he is confident the department will make an arrest, but would not elaborate on when that might happen.

Construction started again Tuesday on a home next to the wooded lot where Coralrose's body was found two blocks from her bedroom.

A memorial that neighbors created using stuffed animals, flowers and signs was moved from the crime scene and placed in front of the Fullwood family's home on Calabash Lane.

Coralrose's parents, Dale and Ellen-Beth Fullwood, picked up their impounded family car from the police station Tuesday morning. Lewis said their Dodge Caravan has also been returned to them.

Dale Fullwood returned to the family home, but declined to comment.

Interesting how the police chief is confident of an arrest. I wonder what he has?

Occassionally, the ferret will poo in his waterbowl while I'm at work. I do smell it when I come in the house. I have a voice activated ferret poo cleaner though.

I just yell "DONNA! TAKE CARE OF MR. SQUIGGLES!"

And now that I've been reading John Douglas's books, I wonder how often what we see and hear are actually "proactive" techniques designed to draw out the unsub.

Packerdog...

A infested house will pass inspection for sale.
I know this because my MIL bought a house with her sister and it was soooo disgusting that the dog was afraid to walk in.
They got a HUGE deal on it because it was sooo filthy and infested.
They each had other homes to live in order to fix that one up. It really wasn't worth the deal they got. It should have just been condemned and demolished.

Glitch? Your ferret doesn't use a liter box?

Yes, he does, but he's finiky, and if he's used it what he deems is "enough" he will not go "downstairs" in his home and go on the wonderful pine chips that would absorb it and make for easy clean up. Nope. He wants his entire lower floor for playing, sleeping and being a "neat freak." The "upstairs" is where his box is - and when he goes "enough", he will then move the box out of the corner and use the corner of the cage, or occassionally his water bowl.

I am not home from 4:30am until sometimes 8pm. According to his digestive system, that passes "enough in the litter box" about 1 out of three days!

(It's a small, ferret sized, litter box, not a huge cat box.)

LOLOL I guess our ferret is just more neurotic then yours:)
He has two liter boxes (both ferret sized ones) One, upon first inspection he decided made a better bed then a potty and never would use it. Its still his bed. SO we bought another in a different shape and color and he has been good about using it ever sense.

Concerned, I hope he has something concrete and it's not just saying what the public wants to hear.

I get a few of those every year and the Combat large roach bait things really put a stop to them. I don't know how to end them for good though, but would like to.
