Found Deceased - FL - Dan Markel, 41, FSU Law Professor, Tallahassee, 18 July 2014 - #7 *arrests*

10/9/19 Trial Day 9: Judge, attorneys still discussing whether they will do closing arguments today or tomorrow and whether jury will be sequestered during deliberations or not. Garcia's team asks that the jury be sequestered once they go out for deliberations, Judge Hankinson agrees. Garcia’s attorney says he may renew his motion to sever. Defense witness: Katherine Magbanua. Only 1 question from jury: It was about her employment as a bottle girl. She talked more about her responsibilities. Defense rest their case. State rebuttal witnesses: Sgt. Chris Corbitt (going over 4 text messages of CA from ICloud). The state has concluded their rebuttal. Judge Hankinson says he now has to meet with the attorneys before closing arguments. That'll be first thing in the morning. Hankinson tells the jurors to pack a bag for overnight stay as jury will be sequestered during deliberations. Closing arguments begin Thursday (10/10) morning, jury deliberations to follow later in the day.
Accomplice:
*Luis Rivera (33) charged with 1st degree murder. Took a plea deal (Oct. 2016) & plead guilty to 2nd degree murder. Will testify against Garcia & Magbanua. Will receive 19-year sentence to run concurrently with his 12 year Federal time, which he is already serving.

POIs: Wendi Adelson (ex-wife of Markel), her bro Charlie, mom Donna Sue Adelson (68) & father Harvey Adelson. Investigators have not charged anyone in the Adelson family in connection with Markel’s death, but say Adelson’s mother & brother – Donna & Charlie paid $100K to have Markel killed following the couple’s contentious divorce so their two young sons could move to South Florida.

By the way I asked for a new thread... this one is getting a bit long.

One that says "Verdict Watch" :)

Did I see SG cry when KM announced she would testify? If this is tue any thought on why?

Throwin' him under the bus.
To the death penalty.
What a choice for wife.
It's quite sad, actually.

What a messed up bunch of people we have in that circle. Who knew I could actually, only for a moment, feel ever so slightly bad for SG. I had to catch myself and remind myself of what he has done!! He’s a callous criminal who slaughteref a man in cold blood for some quick cash. He deserves no sympathy. I believed most of LR’s testimony, and especially the part where he said this is all because of KM, and that KM had SG so crazy and messed up. I think he was messed up to begin with, but with a GF like KM - he went further down a bad road. God help them all.

Justice for Dan Markel.

Exactly!! She is sooo selfish!! I feel awful for her children with her as their mother.
If she truly cared about her two kids, she would have taken the plea deal. She would have been out of jail and with her children right now. She was more than likely promised a lot of money, a beachfront condo, tutors for her children etc etc. Now she soured herself by testifyng. The state won't want to use her because she has zero credibility with them. I guess her children will someday realize that mama wanted money more than she wanted them. I hope her kids find someone that loves them enough to put them first.

I was thinking about this case. It's sad that so many children (KM, DM, LR) will all have to grow up without a father/mother just because ONE selfish person had to have their way at any cost.

I also think part of the reason KM is not taking the deal is because as a narcissist she doesn’t want to admit she was involved and tarnish her image.

Think about what she’d be admitting to; orchestrating a murder, manipulating SG and CA. I mean even if she does no time that’s a death sentence as far as her character goes. The whole world will know it. Including anyone that knows her.

Cooperating means testifying in open court against SG, LR and CA and admitting she’s a gutter b**** to anyone watching! Life as she knew it would be over.

As a narcissistic mother, her priority is herself. Those kids are not even factoring into the equation here. Because if they were she’d have cooperated a long time ago.

I also think her involvement is a lot deeper than I originally thought. I think she egged both CA and SG on. All for her own self-serving needs. She’s the puppeteer just like DA.

Actually, I hope they both go down. My post in reference to KM is a worst case scenario.
I do too! Totally got it! I know there’s always that gamble but she deserves to go down hard.

  • #469
What I meant by the SG/LR comment is KM will cut your throat even if she likes you. Pure evil! As for SG he allegedly put two bullets in an innocent mans head for paper. I hope Law Enforcement put LR on a lie detector before completing any deals with him.
I agree.

If CA can have his brother-in-law bumped off with great ease for a mere 100K why not just do the same to any other problems he might encounter in the future regarding the matter? This is what he will tell her if he has not already told her and may have included the family would suffer a dirt nap to further seal the deal and stop any other problems. Now this is assuming she actually knew what was going on, I think he went to the killers himself w/o poor little Katie knowing for sure what was happening.

You think Katie knew nothing about it happening?

Hoping GC has a concise, cogent closing argument with visual aids. I'm nervous.

It’s going to be nerve wracking waiting for the verdict for sure.
And just praying for 3 more arrests but those seem uncertain as well.
And praying for justice for the Markels. They must be barely sleeping this week.

I think the defense is going to really try to coerce the jury with the "no reasonable person would ever believe Luis Rivera" so they will doubt themselves. They will hit that hard.

KM should’ve just sat there and enjoyed her presumption of innocence. Instead she took the stand and removed all doubt. I think she’s going down. The jury didn’t even bother asking any serious questions. They know she’s a lying 🤬🤬🤬. Except one juror who has never been to a liquor store apparently. Lol.

I rewatched the moment KM’s defense and SG definitely teared up and was shook by the idea of her testifying. You could tell he was finally feeling the weight of this trial and his fate

I agree that a lot depends on whether the jury believed LR or not. The state's case depends on the jury percieved him. I can only say that if I were on the jury, I believe him. He may not remember every minute detail of the day, but he he did bring up things that were corroborated. He even admitted that he was putting himself in jeopardy by being on the witness stand.

Probably a juror who doesn't know what a bottle girl is. I have to admit, I didn't know what one was. Now that I do, I just don't think a person can make that much money being one.

Is anyone trying to watch this trial and the Sievers trial at the same time?

I thought the juror question was about brand promotions? I’ve seen these brand promoters at liquor stores and bars a few times. And I’ve never even thought to tip them. Usually I don’t even stop to sample.
