bbm - A snake bite might not have been immediately obvious to arriving officers if it was on the lower legs, under clothing. Snake bites can kill you pretty fast, within an hour I believe, depending on the type of snake of course. If a snake got into the car, it would also explain the stop on the highway as that would be the only right course of action - getting out of the car and getting the snake out to protect the children.

But I do lean towards drugs, see below.

bbm - I also noticed that sentence. It seems to imply there had been drug use previously (just not around the kids).

boy you guys are good!!

I will wear ugly Crocs for the entire summer if this is not drug related.

You are willing to have a WS neighbor verify your claim if you lose, right? All summer is a long time.

Oh come on just contact NSA they already have all of us on video!! Don't make verification harder than it has to be.

Wave to the satellite !!

I don't like thinking this. I keep leaning towards hadn't been using but one or both still craving. They got a point of heroin what used to be just right was now too much.

I'll admit to driving while tripping b@!!$ in my youth. Regretted it. Thank goodness nobody got hurt.

I'll also admit I've given parents the benefit of the doubt as far as drugs go. Like, I've thought, he's responsible with it, though, he would never do it when taking care of _____. But, yeah, they totally did.

The hazard lights being on kinda get me, though. If I'm shooting up by the side of the road, I don't want to attract attention and that's what hazard lights are for, so IDK. This one is just weird. So tragic for those little ones :(

IF this is drug related, and it sounds like it to me, the only thing I can think of is they took something and the full effects hit them both while traveling. They felt ill, overheated, disoriented, labored breathing, hallucinations ... and pulled over to ride it out.

If they were doing hard stuff, why would you want to be in car??

Wondering Rx - car mechanic- hurt his back, got really addicted, she stressed, started using just rambling here.

I have this image of heroin and crack like you do "it" and within 14 seconds your flying.

How could they not know driving with your kids in the back aint all that a good idea.

It seems like it would have to a milder something, that was rotten, but hitting a crack pipe while driving seems overtly beyond stupid.

And there IS something "logical" about pulling off and turning on the flashers - I do not know but is that kind of logic available for heroin or crack??

All so messed up - if we are doing it drugs it almost makes more sense if it is a murder-suicide as bad as that sounds

LE said there were no drugs or paraphernalia found at the scene. Perhaps they had done it before they left the party, but given the short distance, it doesn't make much sense that they would pull over and do drugs on the side of the road with their hazard lights on.

it didn't have to be drugs taken immediately before they died. They could have taken them earleir and the effect just kicked in where they were found.

We recently had a similar situation in our town where a young couple were found dead in their home, but no obvious reason was immediately known. the autopsy confirmed drugs were the cause: The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office released the cause of deaths of Cameron Hulet, 28, and his 20-year-old wife, Courtney, as a result of Xanax and methadone toxicity.

This fits with the fleeing aspect of where she was found
Possibly he took first and after she saw what happened to him she was scared for herself and the children if something happened to her and wanted to get to them to protect them, if he could.

Does anyone know how long they had been pulled over?

Does anyone know how long they had been pulled over?

according to this article, not more than 30 minutes:

The trooper found the car, its hazard lights blinking, on the right paved shoulder of eastbound I-4, northeast of State Road 44, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a sheriff's report.

The car hadn't been there more than 30 minutes because the trooper that found the seemingly disabled vehicle had been patrolling the area, Montes said.

Possibly they mixed an rx drug with alcohol, or something like that. Maybe took the drug often but always w/o alcohol. But that day, the alcohol due to the New Years Eve party mood, and bham! disaster.

From the article above (post #102):

Investigators did not find any drugs in the vehicle and neither parent had a record of drug use.

“Right now, it's in the hands of the medical examiner. We have everything we have, but to determine the cause of death is what we are waiting for, and we are expecting to get that in the next day or two," Chitwood said.

We are all adults. I am hung up on the driving. I am visual. So I went to my YT. I wanted to see the instant effect of hard core.

It is instant. I watched two, plan was to post it, but in two different videos different dudes, both of em immediately went to their genitals, under their jeans , and rubbed a bit?? Instantly.

Ok not posting that - was looking for how instant a reaction but it was identical in terms of timing the self grope.

Both basically did a quick convulsion I would think you would go off the road, a regular user (maybe not) would know that going 75 miles an hour on a freeway not a good idea.

Yourselves (!) go to YT to see its a jerk ( I do not mean that way it surprised me) can't do that driving without wrecking

This is actually pathetic if they are doing hard core cr*p while crusing down a freeway on new years eve with your kids in the back.

That part of I4 is empty so they could be going really fast

go FL again jeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I"LL say it now that we know they have been involved with drugs before.

They both look much older than 30 and 32. I would have guessed they were closer to early fourties. JMO.

The lady (country one) said they never made it to their party. But the time of night indicates IMO they did go somewhere ???

That does sound like drug users, yeh we will see ya all, but then they stop somewhere, to do or get drugs, and then decide better head back home??

I'll join you. It's the only explanation that fits neatly. Those poor children...

ahh dont do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on the story they were heading east bound and stopped at mile marker 122. If they got on the interstate at sanford that is mile marker 104. They would be heading for Daytona and then either use the side roads or take 95 to Ormond. They would be 8 miles south of Daytona north of Deland. That stretch as I recall, has no exits for about 10 miles. IF they were traveling 65 I would think they would be about 15 mins north of the Sanford i-4 exit. They must have really been sick to know they could not make it another mile. You have to wonder if there was evidence of illness at the scene. Perhaps they took something or were given something at their "friends" house that evening and both got ill. They decided to go home at that point, perhaps also upset with their friend...as they drove home they just got sicker. Even if they had to work the next morning, they could have left at a decent hour with those kids. I am a little confused if they were heading to Sanford or returning, but their vehicle was found returning. I thought a story said they were traveling to see friends...does anyone know?

yes, they drove down to be with "friends and family" after moving north a bit. The country lady (posted report earlier) said they never came.

She described them as all excited to see everyone. There youngest had just taken first step - if I recall that is a big deal for folks that make babies!!!

From the 2014 Florida Morbidity Statistics Report.

I have attached the 2014 CO death stats (2 pages). Note that Volusia County has the highest number of incidents in 2014.

Related? No telling, but definitely interesting.

ETA: added pngs of report

Indeed, the world has the postcard image (they have cleaned it up) but in reality, it is a sleezy hard core, uneducated city.

Back in the day the beaches were even hard core- but wonderful fun!! You could drive on the beach for miles and miles and miles!!

I'm still going to hold out hope that it wasn't drugs even though all signs are surely pointing that way. I wouldn't be shocked if it came out that this was caused by a bad batch laced with poison or fentynal.
But I agree that the FL sun can age the skin fast! Both appear to be no stranger to the sun!

  • #136
If these deaths where caused by carbon monoxide then why where the kids not affected at all and in good health? I would imagine they would've became ill as well?!

  • #137
Wait, I'm confused. If there was nothing at the scene, why did the cop think it was drugs?

OK he driving. He starts to get sick , pulls over, gets out. She sees him fall down, and goes to help, and is running back to get the cell and slumps out?

We have to remember, IMO, neither of them were dead, they both were passed out big difference

Did you wreck cant imagine driving !!!!!

AHhhhhhh I never hallucinated - just laugh and laugh and laugh!!

Wait, I'm confused. If there was nothing at the scene, why did the cop think it was drugs?

There was no sign of foul play, is what they said. But maybe they saw vomit, or foam at the mouth, leading them to think drugs. They probably seen drug deaths before, so whatever they saw ... they just made an educated guess.

We don't have any official confirmation yet that it was drugs.
