GUILTY FL - Denise Lee, 21, raped & murdered, North Port, 17 Jan 2008

 • #321
How I had never heard of Denise Lee I don't know. I watched the program and cried through half of it.

Being the daughter of a Detective I can just imagine how she held on to hope her Dad would get help for her. God Bless Denise and her children, DH, and her Daddy. I hope this doesn't kill her Dad. I just can't fathom the pain those people are in.

May that slob, freak, creep, D-Head suffer and rot. I felt like reaching in the TV and slapping that guy's ugly face. Plus, that cousin. Oh O.K. you see a girl jump out of the car and scream and you do nada? Then you have your daughter call? Then you wait and call from a payphone? They got some serious winners in that family.

I just finished watching the Dateline show (I DVR'd it) and it broke my heart...I can't stop crying!! As a police officer's wife, I'm APPALLED by the lack of responsibility shown by the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department. Not only did they fail Denise that night, they continue to fail her by not accepting responsibility for their actions even now. I don't buy what the sheriff said about not knowing if they could have saved Denise had they routed the call correctly. I have NO DOUBT that Denise would still be alive had they done their jobs. I am amazed that the dispatchers are not being held accountable. Meanwhile, two boys will grow up without their mother. I'm in disbelief!!

God bless Denise's family...especially her precious boys. They will never be far from my thoughts.

RIP Denise

I watched this program last night and I cried through the whole thing. Her poor dad is just so destroyed by this whole thing not to mention what it's done to her husband and children.

I have no doubt they could have saved Denise that night. IF LE was aware of the road he had taken, they would have been been able to locate him BEFORE he murdered her, IMO.

THIS should NOT have happened. Perhaps they should start using the Amber Alert for adults too, if they KNOW the person has been abducted. I know those signs are barely used here in California. But I will say, the Amber Alert signs in California have SAVED THE LIFE of victims. Within the first week of the Amber Alert system in Calif, two teenage girls were spared death. It was incredible!

May Denise RIP and bless her family. Especially her two adorable little boys.

I watched it, they had Maria Lauderbach on the same program. It was pretty good. I didn't see the whole portion on Denise cause hubby was watching something else, but I did see when they were interviewing her Dad and he just broke out in sobs, I couldn't watch anymore. How horrible for him. What a sad, sad situation.

"In his interview, Sgt. Rick Goff, a longtime Charlotte County Sheriff's Office employee, called his daughter, Denise, smart. "She's just like a brainiac ... awesome smart." Denise was teaching sign language to her son, Noah, who wasn't quite 2 years old yet.

Goff said Denise worshipped the ground on which her husband, Nathan Lee, walked. That's why he knew Denise left her home with her two little boys inside against her will. He also learned the couple's youngest son, Adam, did not have a diaper on, which he said "never" happens.

Documents indicate that seconds after Nathan called Goff, explaining Denise was missing, Goff called his supervisor. He explained he was taking his patrol car to his daughter's North Port Estates home. He then called his wife, Susan, who works in Murdock. The couple got there as fast as they could.

According to the interview, Goff asked three times if he could get the Charlotte County helicopter and K-9 dogs out looking for Denise. :furious:

Once he learned a green Camaro was parked in the driveway earlier in the afternoon, he asked that North Port officers stop any such car that they spotted in the city.

Then he was told Denise made a 911 call. He reportedly asked to listen to part of it to verify that it was her voice.

As police pieced together the identity of the owner of the green Camaro, Goff, Susan and Nathan denied ever having heard of or seeing Michael King before.

Later in the interview, Goff said everyone who helped search for Denise was "great." He said Nathan couldn't believe how many people were out looking for Denise.

"That's how many people love Denise," Goff said in the interview. "You know how many people were turned away, calling and just hundreds and hundreds more ... I've racked my brain. I just want to bring her home."

Another interview included in the extensive paperwork is with Sabrina Muxlow, the teenage daughter of King's cousin, Harold Muxlow Jr., who called 911 after learning from her father that King may have been holding someone against her will.

In her interview, Sabrina said, "I'm not gonna (get my dad in trouble), if my dad didn't do nothing, the only thing my dad did wrong is not call the cops in time."

However, Sabrina's timely call to 911 on the evening of Lee's disappearance was helpful, according to the North Port Police Department.

Great job on the updates......I see now that The Monster must have taken Denise to his home as her DNA was discovered there. Bless her heart.....how terrified she had to have been.

Thank you River:) I just want to help this family in any way I can~ and we are going to make some big changes and fix 911 so hopefully nobody will have to go through something like this again. Just to let people know that the family is not against all 911 operators, or cops or anything like that at all. they are hoping to help them improve their system and maybe even get more pay in the end and better skills. They are a wonderful courageous family who want to make a bad situation better and I admire their strength.

Tree Dedication Article from SunNewsPapers.net (North Port Sun) 6/13/2008
NORTH PORT -- Nathan Lee is still amazed at the outpouring of support he has received from the community in the wake of the kidnapping and murder of his wife, Denise. That encouragement will continue Saturday when a tree, planted earlier this year, is dedicated to her memory.

Planting a tree in Denise’s honor was North Port resident Jackie Baldelli’s idea. The dedication will involve the placement of a plaque, which Baldelli has purchased.

"Right from the very moment I heard about this tragic, horrible crime and what happened to this innocent young mother, it just tore at my heart," Baldelli said. "That was the first thing I wanted to do for some reason, was plant a tree in her honor."

Baldelli, who, with longtime North Porter Joan Morgan planned the public memorial tribute to Denise at City Hall in early February, called Alice White, president of People for Trees, about a tree. White said Baldelli has been "gung-ho" about the project.

"We had a tree dedication for one of our tree members, and she saw that, and wanted to know if she could have a tree dedicated in Denise Amber Lee’s memory. I said certainly," White said. "I told her to contact the family, and she did, and they were very receptive to the idea."

The tree is a sweetgum.

"It’s a deciduous tree," White explained. "I think it’s really fitting for a memorial tree, because it loses its leaves and then they come back and the tree blooms in the spring."

White, along with Baldelli and Morgan, spent time Wednesday sprucing up the area along the Community Tree Walk along U.S. 41 where the ceremony will take place.

"The pain is still there," said Morgan. "This is a nice dedication to Denise. It’s a way of keeping her alive."

Baldelli said she was just happy to do something, and watching the tree grow will provide some comfort.

"I don’t know how to put it into words, but the tragedy of it and the senselessness of it struck me," she said. "We’ve embraced her (Denise) like one of our own, and I just feel like this whole city owed her something because of the tragic way that it happened."

Baldelli said she met Nathan at the memorial, but he doesn’t recall meeting her.

"He’s a wonderful young man," she said. "I’m sure (the community support) helps."

Nathan will attend the ceremony, and plans to speak after Baldelli and White. He said the continual outpouring of support from residents helps keep his family going. When Baldelli called to get his permission for the tree, he said of course.

"Why would I say no to something like that?" he said. "I just can’t put into words ... It just shows you what kind of community we live in. When you have something like that happen like this, what better thing (is there) to do than turn it into as much of a positive as you can?"

Nathan hopes to bring some good from his family’s tragedy by tackling issues with the 911 call system. He’s had two meetings already -- one Thursday night in Englewood -- and has more planned.

"I know I could have a town hall meeting if I wanted and have about 1,000 people there," he said. "But we’re trying to brainstorm and get together and find out what the problems (with the 911 system) are and what we can do about it. People need to feel comfortable with the 911 system, and need to call it in an emergency."

He continued that 911 saves lives, but when the system doesn’t work properly, failure can result in a lives lost.

"What people can do, they can e-mail me through the Web site," Nathan said. "They can become a member through the Web site -- it’s free, but they do have to sign up -- and e-mail me at [email protected]. I want to see how many people are interested. I want to hear anybody’s input, because I can’t think of everything myself."

Baldelli called the fact the tree dedication will take place on Father’s Day weekend "a pretty special thing."

"I’m going out early to put up white ribbons and roses," she said. "We as a community need to take care of the treasures. All of those trees are dedicated to someone, and I think it’s wonderful that this tree walk is there on (U.S.) 41. Every time we go by, we can remember them."

The dedication ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Community Tree Walk, near the gazebo across the street from the Olde World Restaurant, near San Pedro Catholic Church. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of Smoothie King.

Trust me on this one......after 20 years involved with victim advocacy, the only true way for the victim's family to survive to stay pro-active instead of letting the criminal also take away their life. Denise's family has been on the right path since day one. I may not be able to attend - but know that you and all others involved will be even more in my thoughts and prayers.

New search for evidence in the Denise Amber Lee case

calendar.png
June 25, 2008

Yesterday, the North Port Police Department, along with members of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Iffice, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Venice Police Department, FDLE and the FBI conducted a search in the area that Denise Amber Lee’s body was found. As per the media release from the NPPD, the purpose of the search was to look for any evidence related to the crime (ie…I would guess they’re looking for the gun, which has still not been found). As Nathan Lee puts it (and the reporter in the story uses the same phrase) they’re “dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s”.

This is from www.deniseamberlee.org

From Nathan: We will have our next 911 reform meeting Saturday at 5pm at the Key Agency in Englewood. So far they have all been huge successes. If you would like to attend, please email me at [email protected]. We have limited seating, but I would like as many people to join us as possible. At some point I want to have a summary of the meeting’s posted here so that everyone that isnt local will have the opportunity to see what is being discussed, and then can offer input. People from all over the country have offered their help and support, and I hope that we can all work together and get this 911 system fixed. It as already started. Take care -Nathan Lee

Not trying to be ambigious, just didn't want to post what state I work for.

Denise Amber Lee was kidnapped from her North Port home on Thursday January 17th at 6:14 P.M. she managed to use her kidnapper's cell phone to call 911 and left an open connection that allowed the Sarasota County Sheriff's office to know about her kidnapping. At 6:23 P.M. ., a second call came in reporting a woman in a dark green camaro who might have been kidnapped. That information was relayed to Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, At 6:30 P.M. . yet, a third 911 caller reported to the Charlotte County Sheriff's office a woman screaming and kicking and beating on the windows of a dark colored camaro. That caller provided dispatchers with the exact location of the vehicle and it's within a mile of the sighting, no one was sent to investigate. By 9 P.M. The driver of the camaro., 35 year old unemployed plumber Michael king, was in custody. By then the 21 year old wife and mother of two was lying in a shallow grave, stripped of her clothes and dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Her body was recovered two days later.
PLEASE HELP US!
911 Dispatchers should be properly trained.
Contact governor Charlie Crist and tell him a public signing ceremony of senate bill 1694 with the Lee and Goff families present would help bring them a measure of comfort and closure. Call him at 850-488-7146 or email him at [email protected]
