Found Deceased FL - Diana Alvares, 9, Fort Myers, 29 May 2016 *Arrest* #4

Yes, I have mixed feelings about people wanting to change the Amber Alert criteria. People kind of get caught up in that single alert. The reality is, they have other alerts and teams for when this one isnt appropriate. I am signed up for email alerts through NOPD alert system. Let me tell you- I get about 10 emails a day of missing people, including many under 18. They are usually found quickly, but it would be impossible to sustain an alert system to be issued in the extreme manner Amber Alert is for every missing person.

RSBM

I share your feelings. If it's determined that AAs would be more useful by loosening the criteria, I trust that will happen. A petition at this point, while well-intentioned, is premature and that one is spreading false info.

I do wonder if the investigators in DA's case didn't request an AA sooner because of the information they were getting early on. The first day or two, the family's focus was on her bio-dad and his gf/wife was filmed screaming at the mom and making her own accusations. Not to excuse mishandling the situation, if that is what happened, but there's also the possibility that it was too late by the time the family reported her missing.

how many alerts are there for missing kids, people? i know of the AA and wouldnt one or two alerts be more helpful? soon there be too many to remember

I do agree with you. While my heart breaks for any missing child and their family, not every situation warrants an AA. (Mpnola, we're neighbors...waving to you from across the lake.)

(hey, guuuurl! Stay out of this heat! :) )

It seems like most of us are on the same page as far as the Amber Alerts are concerned. While families want to send out an alert as soon as a child is missing (understandably), they have to have guidelines so it remains effective.

The facts that they received from day 1 (at least from the bits we get told) are that the sister knew she had plans to run away and that they stopped Jorge and talked to him shortly after Diana went missing. She was not with him and they did not have enough to hold him. So, I am not sure what type of "Amber" Alert would have been issued for her. They already found and spoke to the person people wanted released. And actually, originally the family wanted the father to be listed. That is probably one reason there needs to be a solid suspect or description. Cant go around posting people wanted for an abduction and put out an "Amber Alert" with their picture on it just because you think it might be them. Especially when then that person changes after a day or so of investigation. That is really asking for some problems!

I dont even pretend to know them all, but there are several. This link I found (its for Texas) mentions silver, blue, Amber and Endangered Missing.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/Operations/Alerts/index.htm

This link also mentions the CART alert I mentioned earlier:
http://www.achildismissing.org/programs.asp?id=0

It also says this:
A Child goes missing every 40 seconds in the United States.
Your child has a 1 in 42 chance of going missing...

That means we would all average about one Amber Alert a day, if it was only released for the state you live in. There is no way to be able to run an effective Amber Alert system that way.

Nothing new??? I keep checking. May God bless her and her family and all LE, etc. working this case.

Florida, being filled with senior citizens, has lots of Silver Alerts. According to Wikipedia, there were 377 Silver Alerts issued in the first 3 years of the program -- an average of about 125 per year, or about 1 every 3 days. It seems like just about every time I get on the interstate, there's a Silver Alert flashing on the overhead signs.

And some states have Blue Alerts, to locate people who have killed cops. New Jersey proposed a "Gold Alert" for people with developmental disabilities.

The very nature of the alert system demands that it have strict criteria to limit the total number of alerts and the percentage of false alarms. Otherwise, it becomes counterproductive, because eventually no one would pay attention to any of the alerts.

This statement is thought provoking. IF Jorge was a normal regular thinking person, you are correct. He does not have a record, so that would be an additional consideration when questioning guilt or innocence.

This makes me think of Jorge's brother. He and Jorge shared the same bedroom while they were at Diana's trailer home, so this brother must know more than he is admitting to! The trailer is only so big with limited space to be alone with Diana. What are the chances that the brother was always gone as Jorge was grooming Diana?

The answer we are looking for in locating Diana, I feel is also known to Jorge's brother. However, he "ain't " talking! Do you suppose LE has the brother under surveillance? I sure hope so.

It is disquesting to think that Jorge was living at Diana's house with so many pretenses going on in his mind! And all the time Diana's parents thought they were helping a couple of brothers down on their luck, while adding a few needed dollars to their income.

I have been thinking about this brother for a long time, right from when we heard there were two brothers living in that household. But I didn't know if we are allowed to discuss the possibility of him being involved per TOS so I've kept Schtum. It would explain the accessibility to multiple vehicles, as well as the timely 'help' at so-called breakdown....possibly it was the brother who was meant to retrieve the "lost" phone? But someone else found it first?

It's been very quite, and in my experience, this means there's a lot going on that we don't know about. The LE' got this... and they'll see it through. I have every confidence.

I agree.

IMO, they would not have called off the search for Diana if they thought there was any chance she was still in the area, dead or alive. I think they must have some pretty solid leads that cause them to conclude that she is somewhere else.

Sadly, I'm not optimistic that she's still alive. But I think the evidence must be leading them to look elsewhere for her or her remains.

tonight DA's cousin NM is on abc7 night beat;
she is speaking about "Diana's Law", the petition & how sheriff Scott has not only been avoiding the media, but also her.
she is begging for him to apologize.

unbelievably grateful to continuously see this on the news here, especially with all that is going in FL.
so many deaths & missing people

True. This thread has so much less activity since the police announced they ended their search. No news is coming out for us to work with. And in both cases, I just feel so bad for their loved ones, who I'm sure want as active a search as possible. So sad, and two more young people will join the many others listed on WS who have yet to receive justice.

Is it still cold? I checked a few days ago, it's easier to try to resist checking and tell yourself that Pearl or Diana has been found rather than to go check and see no new information or clues, isn't it? I wish for Diana and Pearl that someone would find the tiniest clue, like an earring or sock, or maybe a sighting will be reported of one of them. It's so heart-breaking as a random stranger on a forum to have no answers about these sweet girls' disappearances, It's horrible to think what their family and friends are going through.

Totally and completely off topic, but I've found a video of a man that's apparently died as a result of a fight. I've googled it to high heaven and I can't find anything at all out about it, nor do I know the location the video was shot in. Yet I've been having trouble sleeping because I feel this is evidence of a crime and I want to report it to LE somehow or give it to someone so they may be able to identify where it took place so I know what county I could report the video to.

Is there a forum here or elsewhere that would help me with this, or any advice anyone could give me about how to search for info on this case or how or where to report it? <mod snip>

Maybe start a thread in the "Jury Room"?

NL007,
You are right to be concerned.
What I would recommend is taking the tap to the police station in the city you found the tape. That will be your best bet. Once you do that you can rest peacefully knowing the tape in in the hands of the one agency that can investigate.
Hope this helps.

I pray they are doing something to find her. This little girl needs to be found. Her case went cold way way too fast and it doesn't need to be. It makes me mad.

Unfortunately I haven't got the physical tape, I saw the video on youtube and looked in the comments. The poster linked to liveleak where the video was first posted. The liveleak video was posted the same day it was reposted on youtube. I do not know where the video was recorded or when, unfortunately. Thank you for responding :)
Thank you, I've done so. I'm hoping for more advice soon :).

here is what I watched on last nights news curtosey of nbc2 for anyone who's not local & interested;

Thank you. It's a shame that it's only about the family wanting to change the criteria for Amber Alerts and not about any new information about Diana herself. I realize that AA notify people by television and text when a child is missing, but other than that how is it different from a missing child alert? LE were attempting to find her just as much with or without the alert, correct? IIRC the information LE had did not even indicate that JG was a suspect initially, so an AA issued a day or two after DA's disappearance likely would not have helped much, IMOAMOO.

Apologies if the difference between a missing child alert and AA has already been covered, this is a long thread and I'm not able to remember everything I've read so far. Thank you.
