The worst part of this indictment (for normal people) is it is going to be Trump 24/7 on every news channel, regular channels and cable--- I watch MSNBC most often but I am tired of hearing the same ol same ol over and over and tired of seeing Trump's face and what he has to say about the indictment "witch hunt, hoax, weaponization", yawn. Thank goodness for true crime channels like ID and Oxygen as well as other channels I can watch like the Smithsonian!

You know, I remember when MSNBC used to be more true crime oriented. Like every night they would have Lock Up on.

I suppose I'm lucky to be in Australia where it most likely won't be covered as much as in the US.

But when I woke up this morning and turned the radio on it was all about Trump being indicted.

Trump might not have liked the not going to hide in Scotland bit that Mr Trusty said.

Or maybe they wanted to be paid upfront...
or maybe they just want to get paid- I think many of his attorneys wound up working for nothing Plus- um- let's just say Mr. Trump is a difficult client to control- working for him is no picnic I am sure

I can't begin to imagine how any lawyer is going to defend these charges. I mean, DT can cry (or CAPS LOCK) 'witch hunt' as much as he wants, but 'witch hunt' is probably not an accepted defense to an Espionage charge.

Cannot imagine him pleading guilty- but how about plead guilty, you can never run for any government office and no jail time

When I first heard that statement, I thought it was very odd being that Trump was in Scotland during his trial with E. Jean Carroll.

Two lawyers defending Donald Trump quit the case on Friday, one day after the former U.S. president was indicted on federal charges of illegally retaining classified documents, obstruction and other crimes.

"This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump," the two lawyers said in a statement. "It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated."

What makes you think that? I couldn’t even imagine being in the same building with him!

[...]
The prospect that someone under indictment — twice — could somehow still be considered a viable presidential candidate underscores Trump’s grip on the Republican Party and the ways that he has fundamentally transformed democratic norms in America.

It also illustrates just how effective he has become at inoculating himself against political fallout by setting expectations and controlling the narrative. And it reflects growing Republican hostility toward the federal government and particularly the Justice Department, which Trump has now spent the better part of a decade maligning.
[...]
Republican leaders in Congress, as they have time after time, sprang to Trump’s defense as if in choreographed unison.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the indictment marked “a dark day for the United States of America” and a “grave injustice.”

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise accused President Biden of ”weaponizing his Department of Justice against his own political rival” with a “sham indictment” that was “the continuation of the endless political persecution of Donald Trump.”

Saudi Arabia would be my bet. Don't forget that weird $2 billion deal that Jared Kushner got (Kashoggi related?). And don't forget that recently the news was on a missing document pertaining to an attack plan on Iran.

CNN: https://edition.cnn.com/2023/06/02/politics/donald-trump-iran-subpoena
I am wondering if we need a thread on this one document. Kidding. Sortof.
This seems much more dangerous than they are making it sound.

IMO, All should read this short article, as a base of reference on the issue.

Donald Trump will attend the summons personally on Tuesday, his lawyers say.

“He’s gonna show up,” said lawyer Jim Trusty, speaking to CNN on Thursday evening. “He’s disappointed that this is where we are as a country and this is where the Department of Justice is, but he’s not - you’re not going to see him, you know, hide in Scotland.”

Trusty would not confirm which members of Trump’s legal team would be present at the hearing – there have been months of distrust and turmoil among the lawyers representing the former president. Correspondent Hugo Lowell has an exclusive report on that here:

I feel the "distrust" article by the Guardian is a must read as well. Watching this Trump legal team is constant fireworks of tension. I love the Guardian.

Read the 49-page indictment against TRUMP and Walt Nauta here: https://politico.com/f/?id=00000188-a12f-db74-ab98-b3ff4de50000

The indictment has 38 counts, not 7, as previously reported.

@kaitlancollins

Trump indictment says he took classified docs that included info regarding defense & weapons capabilities of both U.S. & foreign countries; U.S. nuclear programs, potential vulnerabilities of U.S. & allies to military attack & plans for possible retaliation in response to an attack.

Trump indictment says he tried to obstruct the investigation in several ways, including "SUGGESTING THAT HIS ATTORNEY HIDE OR DESTROY DOCUMENTS CALLED FOR BY THE GRAND JURY SUBPOENA."

“Trump stored his boxes containing documents in various locations at The Mar-a-Lago Club—including in a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.”

The Trump indictment says Trump stored boxes containing classified info in "a ballroom, a bathroom & a shower, an office space, his bedroom and a storage room." These were docs from the CIA, Pentagon, NSA, Geospatial Intelligence, National Reconnaissance Office, Energy and another.

Jack Smith will hold a press conference at 3 pm .

wow... that is a real blast to the past.... the very early days of msnbc.
Every Saturday they would always run these inside-prison shows...

I am reposting the Guardian article about tRump's distrusting lawyers.... It is ancient ( 8 days old), but the jockeying of the lawyers should be carefully followed.

I am thinking these are really serious issues in regards to what he stole....

I hope the government can get ahead of the full Repub Camp rallying cry "weaponizing the Justice Department".

Former President Donald Trump said on an audio recording in 2021 that he had taken classified information with him to his Florida home after leaving the White House, ABC News has confirmed.

Trump is heard on the audio recording saying, "As president I could have declassified, but now I can't."

The recording, first reported Friday morning by CNN, was made as part of an interview Trump gave for a book and was obtained by the special counsel’s team.

According to a portion of the transcript of the call obtained by ABC News, Trump is heard acknowledging that the document he claims to have is "highly confidential" and "secret."

"Except it is like, highly confidential. Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this. This was done by the military and given to me,"
a transcript of the audio obtained by ABC News says.

The transcript appears to suggest that Trump is showing the document in question to those in the room.

Yup.

"Witch Hunt" has been the standard operating procedure.

All of Trump's disseminating information has been based on very general accusations of this type:

But Federal Court is 100% different. Now Trump has to put facts behind all his blind raging statements.
You couldn't be more right that:

"witch hunt' is probably not an accepted defense to an Espionage charge."
