GUILTY FL - Jerry Perdomo, 31, Orange City, 16 February 2012

Sadlly even not telling and locking them up doesn't always help. My 71 year old Uncle (a disabled Vet) was murdered when he surprised his neighbor's son trying to break into the lock box where he kept his pills.

The prep is currently in jail and going to trial in April on a Capital Murder charge. He had 25 prior arrests for a variety of offenses.

Mel

I am so sorry for your loss. This is so sad to hear, but a perfect example of what people undergoing pain treatment have to face. I am lucky my doc found a non narcotic that works for me. It was tiring to be screened for being a possible addict and at times treated like one. It is humiliating and unfair to those with legitimate pain. We shouldn't be treated like criminals.

I have a bit of sympathy for Jerry in that no one should be murdered. But that's all I've got to offer right now. JMO.

Now THIS is a man (?) with a badge that I can respect!

These dogs are such wonderful creatures! :beagle: :wolf:

The dog can't do the work on his own. He wouldn't be worth zip if not for the trainer and the officer who is his handler.
Beautiful dog, though, and no doubt very intelligent.

I can't shake the feeling that there's a whole lot more to this story. Jerry could have taken down Porter with one punch. And then we have this older man, Jerry, throwing rocks through Porter's windows? But then they play pool together and ride down country roads in Maine together. It doesn't add up to me.

ETA: Also, Porter had the money or at least had access to 5000.00.....

I suspect Porter stole money Jerry had on him.

Hey peeps! Please remember that it is not okay to link to social media sites, nor to copy and paste comments from those sites to WS. You can help other posters find the sites in question and direct them to various comments via time of posting, for example. But in general, the only social media links allowed here are from MSM.

Ive not yet seen where they have given any specifics whatsoever about the dog used other than this info:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...r-daniel-porter-20120229,0,6946430,full.story

I, too have quite similar concerns and I believe that sadly it will take some type of grave error that will prohibit justice from being served due to the wrong or incorrect type dog being used in a case thus calling the entire evidence found into question.. I fear it will take something very negative to occur before we see the type of clamping down on using extremely specific dogs according to their specific training and certification to be implemented.. I hope thats not the case and that we see those changes occur before a negative impact occurs..jmo..

Hi Smooth! Can you please explain your last paragraph? How can a certain type of dog finding a body prevent justice from being served? Can you give an example? Thanx!

OMG, I never realized that went for that much on the streets. I have had several surguries over the last few years and had RXs for most of those listed one time or another. Never would I have dream that had that type of value sitting in my cabinet....should have them in a safe.

You're not planning any trips up to Maine, are you??!! (just kidding)

I do sincerely feel badly for people in legitimate pain who have to deal w/ this pain med. trafficking situation.

"A close friend of Perdomo's told WFTV that the firefighter was selling pills he got from at least one pain clinic in DeBary."

"Perdomo's friend of six years said the firefighter began making trips north without the drugs, only to see a friend who'd moved from central Florida. That friend allegedly introduced Porter to Perdomo and Porter's girlfriend Cheyanne Nowak. Then, the prescription drug deals allegedly began.

He said he was concerned Perdomo would find trouble as he dealt wit Porter and the world of prescription drug trafficking.

It allegedly happened as often as once a month. The friend said no one, not even Perdomo's wife Tanya knew what was happening."

BBM But he knew? :waitasec:

No offense to this "friend" who keeps speaking anonymously to the media, but it sounds like he is trying too hard to minimize what was going on? Sounds like someone who doesn't want an investigation into what was going on down here in Florida. Just sayin'.

"A close friend of Perdomo's told WFTV reporter Bianca Castro that he knows what happened.

"He said, 'If I go up there, I can make a killing," said Perdomo's friend, who did not want to be identified.

Perdomo's friend confirmed to WFTV details only close friends and family of Perdomo would know.

He said Perdomo went to Bangor to sell prescription pills and had made the trip before. He also said Perdomo mentioned the only person of interest's name, Daniel Porter, just weeks before his trip.

"He said a buddy of his called him from up north, named Daniel," said Perdomo's friend.

He also said Perdomo often carried a gun in his car and likely took that gun with him to Maine."

BBM I wonder if this is the same close friend who says no one knew?

I agree. (BBM)

Can this friend, who is speaking to the media, get in trouble w/ LE since he had knowledge of Perdomo's drug activity & did not report it?

It really is sad too. Trust me, I feel awful that Jerry lost his life. Murder is Murder. Just as, Rape is Rape, even if the victim is a prostitute.

However, we don't know if someone has lost their lives as a direct result of Jerry putting these pills on the streets illegally? Jerry may have victims of his own?

People want to give Jerry a free pass (from his drug trafficking) because he has served our country and was a firefighter. I'm sorry, but knowing that Jerry did serve our country and was a firefighter, makes it a lot worse because he was a trusted member of the community. A lot of the time, that makes them even more dangerous than some random punk low-level drug dealer on the street corner. Rogue cops are constantly being busted too. Same thing.

There's good and bad in everything in life.

Again, I feel awful for Jerry losing his life. I feel even more awful for his parents, wife, and children. Maybe this will help someone from making the mistake of taking the same path?

And I do hope that DP is charged and punished accordingly. Murder is Murder.

:seeya: I just wanted to say Thank You ! These are some great points and well said !

Hi Smooth! Can you please explain your last paragraph? How can a certain type of dog finding a body prevent justice from being served? Can you give an example? Thanx!

Personally, I can only see a defense attorney harping on/having issue with the type of dog/training/trainer etc, if there is no body, and the prosecution is alleging that the dog responded/indicated to cadaver scent or the alleged trail of a 'live' or cadaver scent. (Caylee Anthony, Madeleine Mccan, Lisa Irwin, etc.)

If a self-trained and self-guided singing three toed sloth found Jerry's body and directed the authorities to it -- in song -- I can't see how that would prevent justice from being served. The body is the body is the body and it is where it is.

Now if the defense could show that the sloth tampered with the evidence... :innocent:

Sorry if I sounded so confusing with my post regarding the dogs.. To put it in a nutshell what I'm talking about is that there are differently trained and certified dogs.. There are dogs trained specifically to seek out search and rescue, looking for live humans, scent trailing dogs, and there are HRD(human remians) specifically trained dogs, cadaver dogs that are used to track the scent of caverdine.. This is a scent that within literal moments of death a human body begins to emote that the dogs can track to find remains, as well they can hit/alert on areas that human remains came in contact with(ie. when they bring the dog to an area they believe may have been the scene of a crime, or that the human remains at some point came in contact with, if even only briefly).. There are dogs who are cross trained to do all of those types of searching and alert for human remains.. I understand that it's the specifically trained in one area dogs that are the most qualified and have the best consistency for accuracy.. There are also many differing ways trainers use, the certifications seem to vary, and IMO due to the fact that there is such varying differences and not one set mandatory process for exactly how, when, where, what method, and how many different areas of expertise each of the dogs are trained with.. This leaves way too much room for error, inconsistency, etc.. Not speaking in terms of the dogs failing at the task of rescuing or locating remains or alerting for human decomp.. That's not the issue or problem.. The problem is that this wide variance where the dogs are concerned when it reaches a courtroom, more specifically the meticulous analyzing for error done by defense attys.. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES AND THE DIFFICULTY ARISES.. Due to there not being a set protocol including specific and trained in only one technique, rather than cross trained in multiple techniques.. Using set standard for specific training and certification.. IMO due to there being such wide variances IMO defense attys will only continue to be able to refute evidence brought in by the dogs specifically of concern is the hits/alerts for human decomp..
*
I think what probably made my post most confusing was that the problem is not with the *situation here in this case of the dog locating Jerry's remains.. The issue is more so about the HRD hits/alerts being used in a court of law and being able to stand up to defense counsel tearing their credibility apart IMO largely due to the wide variances in training, techniques, and certification..

Hope that ATLEAST helps better explain it a bit;)

Where can i get certified to handle one of those?? They sound AWESOME! hehe

Former teacher says man accused of murdering Fla. firefighter ‘was good to people’
“He was genuine. He was good to people,” said Tanya Hubbard, adding that the murder charge levied against her former student has come as a big shock. “He must have just gotten into a situation or a place that went out of control. I would never, ever have expected to see him on the news for this thing.”

From that same article:

Cynthia Ludden, a selectman in the town of Jackson, said Thursday that she did not want to talk about the murder or about any illegal prescription drug activity in the county. She did say that the “Porter boys” — Daniel Porter’s family members — are good guys who “play hard.”

“These are the type of guys that if it’s pouring rain and you need to stop and change a tire, they will help,” she said.
