GUILTY FL - Lakeland girl, 14, charged with killing newborn son, 19 Sept 2012

Her mother sounds in denial to this day. Claims 14 year old didn't know she was pregnant. Even though from the police interview it sure sounds that 14 year old knew she was pregnant and was covering it up.

There is a comment after the story from a woman who's daughter played CG's team in some tournament. She says in June CG was obviously pregnant, and even told team officials, but nobody did anything.

I think it would be hard to charge her with anything, because it sure sounds to me that she convinced herself that her daughter was not sexually active/pregnant. How could she possibly be charged with reckless endangerment of the baby when she didn't know there was a baby?

I think there is a good chance she could be charged with neglect. If her daughter was in danger from a different health related issue and Mom did not take care of her, that would be neglect whether she was in denial about it or not. I think.

yes, this mother reminds me of Cindy Anthony A LOT !!!
so imagine what was going on in the little girls mind?...she HAD to go on with the lies and denial because her mother was playing into it,she KNEW she couldn't come out of that bathroom and say "mom I'm pregnant" and mom would say "I'm upset but we'll deal with it" She knew mom would NEED her to lie and continue lying. She kept the baby under her bed IMO because it was still part of her.Her shame that she was hiding. There is no excuse but there are reasons IMO and the reasons point to the mom IMO just like I believe Cindy is partly responsible to what happened to Caylee I believe this mom is even more so partly responsible because her daughter is a CHILD and she refused to take care of her child and do what a mother does. There is no way she did not know.I can just see her sitting in the room close to the bathroom covering her ears, pretending it was not happening, she was not there for her child, she failed her :(

I am horrified at this whole story. Simply horrified and nauseous.

I shake my head and wonder, "what is going on in this world that this can happen? What is going on?"

And I know I'll never find the answer. And so I'll weep for this nameless murdered child, and I'll shake my head, and keep wondering, "what is going on in this world?"

It says the baby's father may be charged as well as her family. I wonder what the baby's father could be charged with? Underage sex? Unless there is more to the story?

It's not legal in FL for two 14 year old to have sex with each other (even if both are having sex voluntarily). So each one of them could be charged with second degree felony-if a prosecutor wants to press charges. I believe normally prosecutors steer clear from such cases, but since in this case, there is a dead baby-who knows.

It is absurd if they charge them both for having sex (assuming it was consensual). They're the same age, there was no coercion by an older person...

Criminal charges for sex? Someone mentioned "Victorian" earlier - very apt description.

I'm wondering if since they can prove he knew she was pregnant that they he can be considered liable because of the outcome? I really don't know. I do think we will see plenty more charges.

She will be charged as an adult.

"A teenage girl who deputies say gave birth to a baby, then strangled him will be charged as an adult."

Thanks for that link. From there I went to the previous story http://www.cfnews13.com/content/new...icles/bn9/2012/9/28/deputies_girl_14_gav.html

"A team official said he and other coaches had confronted the mom about their pregnancy suspicions, but the mother said a test showed her daughter wasn't pregnant."

I'm speechless that so many adults knew and did nothing. It seem to me the coaches could have told her she needed to have a pregnancy test from a Dr. saying she was not pregnant for legal reasons to continue playing on the softball team.

I agree it makes for a pretty stupid law, but they do have it on the books.
So if they want to charge a 14 year old with a felony for having sex with another 14 year old, they could.

Wow, Nancy Grace can't seem to hear anybody talking but herself and people who agree with her.

She was told early in the show that the '32 blows' were caused by the scissors as the girl tried to pry the baby out of herself, not by a blunt object type of thing. But Nancy Grace HAS TO mention every five seconds thereafter that the baby was 'beaten 32 times'..

Seems to me throughout the show Ms Grace is drumming up support for her own personal sense of outrage rather than inviting any kind of measured discussion. I actually have no idea who Nancy Grace is, or what her show is about. But I hated reading that transcript and its lynch mob kind of feel.

I'm not sure whether this girl should or shouldn't be tried as an adult for the murder of her child. What I am reasonably sure of is that she has some kind of colossal mental problem, to do that to herself (those scissor wounds top her vagina must have been agonising) and to her baby. Something.. to state the obvious ... is definitely not right there.

The whole relationship with her mother sounds a bit off. The mother was in abject denial, indeed, and I have to wonder what was going on at home on a day to day basis, what kind of relationship they had there. My bet is that it wasn't a healthy one.

I found the 911 call from the girl's aunt really interesting.

"They don't know how to handle things like I do." (I wonder what this means..)

"It's a full.." (.. term baby?)

Yet she was convinced it was a 5-month old fetus until she actually arrived at the house and saw a full term baby .. in the sink. A fetus supposedly miscarried by the girl who took two pregnancy tests that showed she supposedly wasn't pregnant..

Seems to me the girl wasn't the only one who wanted there not to be any baby at all.

And why on earth did the teenager's mother put the dead baby in a sink and then call -- not the police, not 911 -- her sister to come handle it?

Something is totally not alright in that home. I hope this aspect of the case gets investigated properly, as how does anyone know whether or not that mother made a career out of messing her daughter's head up and -that- is why this teenager mutilated her own privates and then murdered her child. It could make a monumental difference to the rest of this girl's life if she is mentally ill and/or influenced by a seriously disturbed parent -- OR make sure she is punished appropriately, in the case she really was simply a cold-blooded baby killer..

I had to facepalm, though, at Nancy Grace bleating on about 'what if this was a boy?"

Well, a boy would not be a/ knocked up and b/ slicing his own baby out of his vagina for reasons unknown, would he? What an idiotic point of argument that was.

I think the police report stated that she had not told her boyfriend, I am not 100% sure though. (can't access that report on this iTouch). I wonder if they were still together during the pregnancy. If she spent time with his family I wonder if they were suspicious?

"Legally speaking, it's possible that it's a life case," he said. "Practically speaking and what is the just thing to do, that will be determined as we learn more about it."

Hill said the decision to charge the girl as an adult wasn't taken lightly.
"The decision was fact driven," he said. "I think the facts demand first-degree murder charges."

...

The mother is now claiming 14 year old didn't know she was pregnant, and didn't gain a lot of weight. Yet seems like a lot of people suspected.
Even if she thought 14 year old wasn't pregnant, why didn't she take her to the doctor for her growing stomach? She could have been growing a tumor.
The mind boggles at such level of denial.

I think the mom is back pedaling to try and cover her own butt, and secondarily we daughter. Clearly this woman puts her own needs above all else. It will be interesting as the prosecutors lay out the facts of the case. SOMETHING about what happened merited the adult charges.

Like someone else posted, I think it is very telling that they called the Aunt instead of 911, and that the Aunt said "they don't know how to handle things like I do." I wonder if they knew the Aunt was going to call 911. She arrived before police.

From your link:
Teresa Goodson wouldn't specify when the tests were taken. She said she told her daughter to take tests to quash the pregnancy rumors.

THAT'S why she wanted her to take the test?? That makes no sense. What, was the girl gonna show the tests to everyone?

I believe all the mother had to do was to put her hands on her daughters stomach or sit down with her for a 2 hour movie and watch her stomach moving around. Why no other adult that saw and interacted with this child on a regular basis did not call the proper authorities simply leaves me speechless.

I know. I would have had my daughter take the test because I WOULD have wanted to know. I would have asked questions and LOOKED at her. My main interest would not have been to stop rumors, that would be the LEAST of my priorities. There seems to be lot's wrong with this woman. In one of the articles posted it said family members may be charged for trying to keep the pregnancy a secret. Hence, no call to 911?
They could have still taken care of this girl without announcing the pregnancy to the world. That's why I am wondering if there is more to the story. Just because she had a boyfriend doesn't mean for sure he is the father. Which would explain the secrecy and/or denial. Just the fact that she was 13 and having sex makes me wonder what kind of life these people were living.

ETA don't know where that smily frown thingy came from.
