I understand that but, my husband, daughter, and I go into minute details. We usually need wings to get to the point. Although, our stories never deviate by adding or changing details.
I agree with this. I have a friend who will tell you every detail down to the color of her toenail polish when she's really trying to tell me she found a great price on pineapples. I think it's all about if this behavior is out of the norm for this particular person, which we wont know because we don't know her outside of this. Only someone's close friends and family will know if any of this is unusual.

This article is infuriating to me regarding JS (bolding is mine).
Same. If “switch” can also refer to role play where one partner takes on the role of a kid (I swear I’ve seen it used that way somewhere but I don’t really want to Google it so MOO x10) I wondered whether SS ever said that HE was scared to sleep alone and whether he took on a role of MS’s peer at least in front of JS.

I know that’s all super sketchy and I hate that I just typed it but it kindof puts the pieces together for me. MOO. def not that kind of doctor.

When asked if it was normal that Stephan and Madeline would sleep together without her being there, she said yes, statements say.

"(Jennifer Soto) stated if she needed a good night sleep due to her anxiety, she would ask them (Stephan and Madeline) to sleep in a different bedroom."

why is she adding information to normalize the behavior? What question was she asked that warranted that response? At that time, did LE know any of that? It probably all came from the " she can't sleep alone " comment. LE probably just asked about that, to get an understanding and she elaborated. She either thinks thats normal or what did she say that for?

My only nitpick is that the incident report is that it is the LE officers interpretation of the events and conversation with JS. We don’t know exactly what LE asked and exactly what JS responded. (IIRC) The officer isn’t directly quoting her (not using “” ) so IMO we cant really study the words she used.

If JS did in fact write in her sworn written statement (which IIRC you write yourself with a pen and paper) that specific sentence about “observing MS getting dressed” then the window of misunderstanding/misinterpretation is very slim IMO.
Because these reports are used in a court of law as evidence, it's essential that officers communicate precisely and correctly. If they get it wrong, then it can come back to effect their own careers if they make false claims. LE are taught to be precise and correct in their reporting for this reason. Not only do they get a person's verbal statement, it's substantiated by their written statement. In many cases too, the interviews/reporting is recorded on the officer's vest cameras as further evidence. MOO.

It probably all came from the " she can't sleep alone " comment. LE probably just asked about that, to get an understanding. but to add that piece for what? To qualify how scared Maddi was, she is not a girl who runs away, ( she can't even sleep alone) or to do what? is she minimizing or naive. or does she not realize what she is implying,?
My guess is she was asked if Maddie ever slept in the same bed as SS without her there and she wanted them to know (as if they could not tell already) that she prioritized her wants and needs over her child’s safety.

Anxiety is a preemptive excuse for why she allowed her boyfriend to sleep with her child because even she could realize that the police do not ask you very specific questions about sleeping arrangements for no reason.

Many people battle mental illness every day but I have never seen it used as an attempt to excuse aberrant behavior as many times as I have in reviewing the police statements from SS and JS in this case. It is in everything from why they did not go searching to why JS encouraged dangerous sleeping arrangements. You cannot use mental illness as a crutch to excuse away the inexcusable.

Thank you for posting this! When I catch your posts and have time, I like going through the court website and checking what I missed in the case and was interested to see the second page of the doc from 5/13/2024 labeled "NOTICE OF INTENT TO RELY ON CERTIFIED RECORDS" is dated 2/28/24.

They suspected him from Day 1 to have submitted that request and get a timely response. MS's body wasn't even found until Mar 1st. JMO

I completely agree. I would be interested to know exactly when they put in the request.
  • Court TV says the interview that Kissimmee police did with SS was taken on Feb. 27;
  • Fox 35 agrees the date was 2/27 but calls it the "initial interview police had with Stephan Sterns."
  • We know, however, from this News 9 story there was a police report done on 2/26 and it shows the report (see below) where the officer says he "later" spoke with SS. I'd love to know if that "later" was on 2/26 or the interview we know of from 2/27.

Also on the initial report, second sentence, it states, "While on the scene, the step-parent stated he dropped his daughter off at school..." This tells me SS must have been at the scene (school) by this point and the officer spoke directly to SS.

This article is infuriating to me regarding JS (bolding is mine).
I too had a problem when I first read this, and still do, because it implies that Jen found it hard to sleep when M and SS were in her bed. WHY would that somehow interrupt J's sleep?? Were M and SS not simply sleeping when they all slept in the same bed? Makes it sound like M and SS were doing THINGS that prevented J from being able to get a good night's sleep! Why else would it matter if everybody were just SLEEPING??

I don't think they say what time of day the FEB27 police interview with SS was at, but SS mentions missing their calls earlier that afternoon. You can hear in that interview the female detective is trying to manually search his phone and is not buying anything SS is selling regarding that "accidental reset". I wouldn't be surprised if they submitted the request to google directly after that interview based on how obvious it is that he purposely deleted the information from the phone. IMO

That woman detective’s tone in that interview gives me life. Her tone of voice conveyed, “you aren’t as smart as you think you are, you aren’t fooling me, and I am going to get justice for that little girl,” clear as a bell in that interview. She deserves an award.

As someone who has issues with sleep, even just someone turning over in the same bed can wake me up. Some mornings Mr. Izzy wakes up before I do and wakes me up just by getting out of bed.

why is she adding information to normalize the behavior? What question was she asked that warranted that response? At that time, did LE know any of that? It probably all came from the " she can't sleep alone " comment. LE probably just asked about that, to get an understanding and she elaborated. She either thinks thats normal or what did she say that for?
^^rsbm

My personal observation of JS is that she does not appear to process like most adults. IMO, there seems to be a delay between her mental and verbal processes.

Clearly, JS mannerism during MSM interviews was not what one would expect from a mother being interviewed about her missing 13 year old! For example, I'm recalling JS's silent pause, a smirk-- almost giggling to herself, at what I later found out to be a squawking parrot in the background.

I think we have to start here when trying to fully understand and assess JS's actions or inactions:

Although we know that JS was being treated for anxiety, we don't know her medical history or diagnosis. However, anxiety disorders are more common in autistic people than in non-autistic people, with up to 50% of autistic adults experiencing anxiety at levels that significantly impact their daily lives.

We know MS was associated with autism is some reports (and autism linked to inherited genetic mutations).

To be clear, we have no confirming information -- just offering more possible elements about JS for consideration.

Reportedly, JS would send MS/SS out of her bedroom because JS's own anxiety was so severe that she had to be alone. IMO, this begs the question whether or not these were also the moments where it was not uncommon for SS and MS to sleep together in the same bed.

I think we should also ask how did JS deal with an anxiety attack in the daytime? Would she medicate, and lock herself in her bedroom, and assume SS and MS were painting figurines in the kitchen?

To calm JS during these hypersensitive moments-- was it enough for SS to tell JS that he and MS played video games until they both fell asleep together?

I'm also thinking about statement from LE that when JS was presented with printed images of SS assaulting MS, she could not see the assault, couldn't envision it, as if she was in denial, and then became visibly upset.

Again, I think this is another example of the delayed brain process by JS I've previously opined on-- but which would be normal processing to her.

IMO, I think LE took a step back to review and understand JS medical/mental history, and why there's been complete silence from Investigators when it comes to JS.

Seriously, it's been nearly 90 days since SS arrest on SA/CSAM and not one sighting or bleep about JS by LE or MSM? I find this very strange.

Lastly, I can see SS as somebody targeting mothers with pre-pubescent children. 8 years was more than half of Maddie's lifetime!

When I think about how long MS suffered in silence-- kept SS's secret, I attribute this to just how skilled SS was at grooming and manipulating the daughter, and very possibly the mother too.

Also, there appear to be many cultures where co-sleeping does not follow American culture. This probably shouldn't be discounted when assessing JS behavior.

I suspect we will see SS's defense try to use this "team" aspect of Google drive to his benefit and claim the incriminating content was by others. Maybe SS will allege JS responsible for the content...

Shared drives are special folders in Google Drive that you can use to store, search, and access files with a team. Shared drive files belong to the team instead of an individual. Even if members leave, the files stay in the shared drive so your team can keep sharing information and work anywhere, from any device.

Another observation...

Referencing the incident report by Deputy Joseph (10644), it seems he first took a statement from the stepfather who provided that he dropped his daughter off at school, and when the mother went to the school, she was not there.

Assuming Joseph next took JS verbal and written sworn statement in private, she told Deputy Joseph that she observed MS getting dressed for school, and the step-father, SS, took her to school--dropping her off near the intersection of Town Loop Blvd and Hunter's Park. In her sworn statement, JS did NOT use the proverbial "we," and did not insert herself into the act of taking MS away from the property.

Similarly, in SS's verbal and written sworn statement later given to Deputy Joseph (date/time unknown, and half a line redacted), he also avoided the use of "we," cited during earlier interviews, and only referenced himself as dropping MS off, approximately one block away from the school.

I think it follows that JS first talked to Joseph prior to giving MSM interviews, and I think it significant that when talking to LE, she did not insert herself with act of taking MS away from the property.

I think JS initially telling media "we" took MS to school was most likely a statement of unity suggested to her, but I also observed JS correcting herself (without being prompted), that she did not actually accompany SS and MS to school. JMO
