UNSOLVED FL - Mandarin, Skeletal Remains in yard, Mar'11

I wouldn't completely rule out that it could be Haleigh, but Mandarin is a "historical" area (I am from Jacksonville originally and lived there most of my life). Mandarin, Fruit Cove and across the river, Fleming Island were all huge plantations at one time. If you were to look the legal descriptions for some of the properties they start out by saying ....a part of the (insert a name here) Spanish Land Grant, etc. They go waaaay back. I wouldn't be surprised if this was could have been some type of family gravesite that was unearthed. I would love to get some closure for Haleigh though.

OT - The Mandarin area is beautiful. Many years ago, I read a Eugenia Price book, "Margaret's Story" and it was based in the Fleming Island and Julington Creek areas. I loved it. If you aren't familiar with Price, she took facts about real people in history and created stories based on those facts. I guess she was a creative sleuther herself.

Thanks for your interesting post. I'm going to try and find that book because I love history and it sounds really great.

We lived in Mandarin for several years when I was a child. After leaving someone was cleaning out the carriage house and found a rotting head in a plastic bag. That was back in the 70's. This made me think of that. Weird stuff in Fl..

It is a beatiful place, I lived by there in San Marco (Jacksonville) I've read all of Eugenia Price's books, she's one of my favorites!

I agree with you that it could be an old grave site. I wish they would give the info on it. Seems like a long time to identify it as adult, child, male, female or the age.

Don't you think if it was Haleigh the family would have been notified by now?

I check on this every day and search for information in google. I can see I am not the only one. I really don't think it is connected to this case but it is possible. I am just so curious... it seems to me that if it were an "old" body (something from our far past) we would have heard about it. I would think they would have said so by now, so many people have asked reporters for info. I think it may be more recent (by recent I mean in the last 15 years or so. Wouldn't you think? That would explain the tight lips, until there is some kind of identity determination. Sex and approx age they would know by now.

One possibility is that they're waiting for test results. If there's no obvious connection to a local crime, it's probably been pushed to the bottom of the priority pile.

the longer it goes without any comment from LE , the more it makes me wonder if it isn't Haleigh...

when the bone was found on Aruba tho, they rushed testing to see if it was Natalee's , so I just don't know... Haleigh doesn't have quite the same press as Natalee does. I think everyone in the world knows about Natalee, but not poor little girl. I wish they'd at least say it isn't.... unless they can't. and that's why I think they haven't... they can't rule it out yet. So it's close enough they can't call it a definate no. :waiting:

I hate to sound like a very sarcastic B here but I'm so sick and tired of the LE in this area of Florida I could totally spit. And I'm being very mannerly here. I need to see that we are not going to see or hear anything from this two bit LE agency and just deal with it. Don't expect to see anything even resembling a law enforcement agency in this case. It doesn't exist. Since day one the Keystone cops have been overseeing this case, if you can even call it that, and blew the case on day one and it has gone downhill since then. You just can't expect the norm in any way, shape or form on the Haleigh Cummings case. It is one screwed up cluster. Sorry, but that is just the way it is.

Think about it. Florida makes mega bucks on drug cases. The arrested go in and out of jail so fast it makes your head swim. Mega bucks made on fines and court costs. LE is not interested in cases that make them actually spend money. They spend their money on officers who can bring in the money and that is traffic and drug court. Homicide cases do not bring in the money and that is what it is all about..............period.

I truly have nightmares that 10-20 years from now Dateline will do an episode on this case exposing evidence & information that LE held onto all these years, confirm the existence of "inner connections" that we've long wondered about and that investigators operated in a "CYA mode," just like most of the suspects in this case, complete with a rundown of all the investigative mis-steps made from day one. It literally makes me sick thinking that LE has evidence/knows something that, if released to the public, the case could, and would have been solved years sooner. :banghead:

I know what you mean entirely. Isn't it strange that LE players on this case have either been promoted, retired, resigned or transferred since this case began?

lone, I also feel your frustration. This case has been a travesty of justice since day one.

I think because of TN's "profession" (& I don't mean dispatcher or file clerk at LE,) is what is keeping this case on the down low. A lot of people could be hurt, lives destroyed and careers ruined. JMO

Somehow I've missed this bit of news. What profession are you referring to?
