Twice as old and half as small as whom? M could have perceived D as a threat to his family, IMO. Especially since he was armed and confrontational and had past run ins at that exact convenience store.

Dozens of people have been shot because they had their hand at their waistband and the other person feared they were going to pull out a gun. The is no reason that MM did not also fear that.

No, MM was much larger and 20 years younger, however he still needed to go the coward's route and attack D from behind.

Do you really believe that MM would have attacked a man if he knew he was armed? After all, MM had to go the coward's route and surprise attack D even though D was older and weaker.

You are. By the way, D is a human being as well and he didn't deserve to be attacked.

No one slammed searching for missing girls, it was pointed out that some receive more attention than others (in a predictable way). No one said women did not matter.

If someone's house is on fire and they yell "my house matters!" imagine a neighbor responding "all houses matter!" and ignoring their plea.

But I digress. M did not have to wait for D to attack physically for him to shove D. If he perceived D to be a threat to "another" as the statute says, he had the right to intervene with physical force. The law doesn't require he speak to D first, the law doesn't require he wait for D to turn around and face him directly first, the law allows him to shove D if that was how he perceived the situation.

A poster mentioned earlier that the family might sue the store. Would that be because they were aware of past problems caused by MD and didn't ban him from the property?
I can't imagine how the store could be sued other than that.
