Yeah, we probably should have. The Middle East has been a hotbed of Islamic terrorism for centuries. We knew that in the 1980s.

And, his Father thinks he's the President of Pakistan. That's not assimilation.....immigration without assimilation is...an invasion.

Americans are the target, What ever they did in life or who they choose to love or identify themselves as, but first and foremost it was Americans that was the target.Because of his hatred, (according to family) of the gay community just made for an easier target. jmo

It hurts me to read that when two people show affection, love to one another, it makes people queasy. It makes me upset when I hear people saying horrible things about others, harm one another, are intolerant of others. But I hope and pray as long as I live, I will never be offended by a sign of love between two human beings. JMO

I'm right there with you. The thanks button wasn't enough.

He was able to buy guns because he had no criminal convictions, no mental illness history and displayed no mental illness and people can't be refused a gun purchase based on race, religion, who you know in Syria, being a homophobe, being a muslim....etc. etc etc. It's the American way.

He was determined a 'non risk' by the FBI. People can't be arrested/convicted/placed on watch lists based on their thoughts or opinions. Freedom of speech etc. It's the American way.

Political correctness is NOT the reason this guy was free to create carnage. The American constitution is the reason.

The right to bear arms, the right to practice any religion without persecution, freedom of speech etc.

Which part of your constitution are you willing to change?

BBM
This is what is hard to get perspective on as someone who isn't a US citizen. I hear it so often when issues are debated...but it's in the Constitution. Is the Constitution generally seen as something that can never be progressive? We don't have such laws in Australia that are inflexible, in fact laws change, in most part, depending on social change or the climate we live in. Doesn't mean the changes are always ideal but there is flexibility in the system.

And what happens when someone is flagged? Absolutely nothing.

And it would hurt innocent people who get incorrectly flagged. There's no way to get yourself off the watch list. People on the watch list should be watched. Investigated. Surveilled. But unless and until the watch list starts being handled in a constitutional manner that protects the rights of innocent Americans, it should not be used to curtail our rights.
It would affect less than 100,000 U.S. people on both lists combined, and an extremely few number are incorrectly listed and it's due to name crossing usually, which is pretty easily cleared up. Another fear tactic. The flag could be set up to be for high capacity AR guns specifically, those guns were designed to hunt people, and then called in if a flag went up, but let's just keep doing the same thing, the same way, and expect different results.

Gays today, Jews tomorrow, blacks next week and women the month after. Every man, woman and child in the USA is equally at risk of being targeted by islamic terror. Equally at risk.

Every man, woman and child everywhere.

ISIS has killed more non-Americans than Americans, and more Muslims than non-Muslims.

I totally agree with Tehcloser as well!

Imo, to say the two aren't connected is being dismissive for why these innocent people were brutally murdered.

I have seen a few posters post who stated it was like 'getting two birds with one stone' and I think that sums it up for me.

It is already obvious that these radical Muslim extremists want to kill all of us simply because we are not in lockstep with their beliefs but it is also well known on how they view gays. So he hit a place where he thought his God would reward him even more during Ramadan.

Its heartbreaking to even think someone could think like this but thousands do or maybe millions..

Sharia law is so frightening to me. It is the law of the lawless, imo. I often wonder what really goes on behind closed doors in our country concerning some of the women who lives with a man/husband who still believes in Sharia law. The young woman this murderer was married to said he beat her for no reason at all. Does the Quran teach them to suppress women as if they have no value at all?

I am not so sure he was radicalized recently. I think his own father brainwashed him over the years to have these feelings of hatred against so many races and groups of people. I don't trust the father's act at all. I think he too should be investigated and I wonder if the FBI ever had him on their watch list too?

Weren't there places in Washington State where the Muslims wanted Sharia law enacted in their communities and they didn't want the police coming there?

Have you see Mateen's mom speak out in the media? If not, maybe she isn't allowed to do so at the direction of her husband.

IMO

many people are stating their opinions (which is fine) very strongly, sounding as if their minds are made up about certain things that we still dont have enough information about.

i would caution against doing that, saying things like "this was NOT terrorism", "he was NOT mentally ill, he knew exactly what he was doing".

to me, those seem like the kinds of statements that will get you entrenched in a position and less willing to be open to changing your mind when more information comes out.

Additional information doesn't need to come out to come to the conclusion that this guy was a terror who was mentally ill. People who are in a healthy state of mind don't commit acts of terror such as this. It's that simple.....it's common sense.

I agree with that. But today it was a specific group. Tomorrow they may choose a church. I will say they specifically targeted Christians of a certain faith then. If it's at a sporting event...then it's everyone. It really bothers some people to admit the lgbt community was targeted because they look down on them too. They have no empathy unless it strikes them right in the head.

I think people are co-opting grief and anger, but the reasons are so complex I couldn't take a guess. I just know it's hurtful. JMO

It's deflection at its finest. One of the worst islamic terror attacks on American soil and we're discussing Westbro Church, Ted Cruz and obscure, crazy preachers. None of whom have a damn thing to do with the execution of 50 innocents and injuring over 50 more.

and in other news..........when I got up the morning the top trending story on facebook was how Meg Ryan looked at the Tony awards last night.
How did our society get here? SMDH

Americans are the target. I don't have any problem with admitting gay people are targeted by islamic terrorists. My problem is with the fact they aren't targeted any more than any other demographic opposite of followers of islam. Identity politics is leading to the death of our nation, imho, and as long as we continue down this rabbit hole instead of coming together as American Citizens with shared values, it's only going to get worse.

I want to just state an opinion: This guy is a loser. Life sucked. He doesn't seem to be happy in anything. Ex-wife says he is an abuser and mentally ill. (I have not seen any medical documentation of that just her opinion.) But, he goes into a room and gets on a computer, and just like Tim McVeigh and Dillon Roof and many, many others, he makes connections with other haters, and decides that the only way to make himself happy is to hurt others. Then we have people in prison, whose life is also in the pits and we send these recruiters in to get new converts to a religion that is based on violence. (MOO)

The Christian faith is based on 'love your neighbor as you love yourself' and "turn the other cheek' and are 'commanded not to kill, steal and lie.' Are there nut jobs in it, of course.
I truly can't see how people refuse to see that Islam's message is basicly to kill anyone that is not muslim. That that act will get you into heaven with all these giant virgins. And the mistreatment of women is children is the man's right. This is not a secret. They are truly loud and proud about it.
Google, read, learn.
This is my statement of beliefs only, not trying to convert anyone.

That is not true and it's also an incredibly inflammatory statement to make.

Many things, but if I had to pull one funfact out of my hat it would be that ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Orlando Massacre.

Well of course they have! What else would they do? Whether anyone from ISIS ever directly heard of this guy or directly had any contact with him, of course they are going to take credit for his deeds.

Not that this will mean a darn thing to the "this can't be terrorism" crowd but the father has since retracted his statement about the gay kiss.

He now says this was strictly an act of terrorism. Many folks suspected from the start that the father blamed this on "seeing men kiss" so his family would not be scrutinized for terrorist ties.

In a sharp departure from his earlier statements that Omar Mateen’s Sunday shooting rampage at a gay Orlando nightclub was prompted by anger over the sight of two men kissing, Mateen’s father this morning said he now believes his son’s attack was an act of terrorism.

Seddique Mateen made his comments to reporters in his Port St. Lucie home this morning, at times putting his hand over his heart as he spoke.

Remorseful and shaken, Mateen said, “What my son did was the act of a terrorist.

what facts have come out that this was indeed Islamic terrorism? to me on the outside, it just looks like good old fashioned hate, the perp just happened to be Muslim. was this organized? are there other perps? sorry, this has started so fast, I have not been able to keep up.

The shooter said it was so.

Mateen called 911 during the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston Marathon bombers, according to a U.S. official.

I have never read the Quaran nor the Hadith, so that would be difficult for me to go into depth on but, in a nutshell: Sharia Law (or Islamic law) is the religious legal system governing the members of the Islamic faith. It is the rules, so to speak, of Islam, that are gleaned in particular, from the Quran (basically, their Bible) and the Hadith (the words of the prophet Muhammad). If anyone wants know anything further than that, I suggest they read the Quran and the Hadith. ISIS does not follow those. ISIS creates their own rules. On a side note: I know of quite a few people who would like much the same type of religious legal system instituted in our country based on the Bible.

Wasn't our country originally based on that Bible system?

I believe they would claim anything that is painful to us as Americans, so that has me nonplussed.

Many things, but if I had to pull one funfact out of my hat it would be that ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Orlando Massacre.

Again it was "political correctness" that allowed this guy to do this.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Orlando's mayor on Monday revised the death toll in the nightclub shooting to 49, from 50. The 50th body was identified as gunman Omar Mateen.

The gunman who killed at least 50 people at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday was described by a former colleague as an "unhinged and unstable" person who repeatedly made racist, misogynist and homophobic remarks.

Daniel Gilroy, a former police officer, worked as a security officer with G4S Security at the PGA Village complex in Port St. Lucie. Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen worked the shift right after Gilroy at the complex's south gate.

Gilroy described Mateen as a devout Muslim who brought a prayer mat to work and prayed several times a day.

"There was never a moment where he didn't have anger and rage," Gilroy told "The Kelly File". "And he was always loud and cursing. And anytime a female or a black person came by, he would use horrible words."

Wasn't our country originally based on that Bible system?

Was it?

What does that even mean? An eye for eye, or turn the other cheek? Or something else.... ?
