Pretty sure it doesn't matter, this took place over 3 hours.

As far as how many times per minute, how fast can you pull a hard trigger? AND change mags every 30 rounds?

It isn't nearly as easy as the anti-gunners want to believe.

What is your best guess with someone who worked out a lot and was a top marksman?

When people behave in an extreme and violent manner, it is tempting to assume that they must be "crazy" or "mentally ill." So when we view the violent atrocities of groups like the Islamic State ("ISIS"), we may imagine that the perpetrators are "psychotic" or severely disturbed. But there is little evidence to support this notion, and most research on terrorism doesn't point to severe mental illness as a significant causal factor.

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/855849

I'm sure there are numerous articles out there to say there are no terrorists, only the mentally ill. But, I'm not buying it. I'm starting to think it's less scary for us to classify someone as "mentally ill" (at least there's a treatment and it humanizes them) rather than just sheer evil. Eh? At least we feel we have some way to control mental illness. Evil? Not so much.

But that is not true- govt been cutting mental health for years

there is stigma

lack of awareness that one needs help

It isn't about "us good, them evil" it is just nature.

Humans are prone towards inter-species conflict/aggression in a big way.

It also means if you love your own you protect them, and you aren't fooled by wolves in sheep's clothing. If they kill 49 of yours, and they injure another 50, you recognize the threat.

And if others say "disregard all of that mass killing, show the love" you realize something ain't right and other agendas are in play.

Actually, people are not. There are studies on this. Even in the service they need a leader to get them to kill. Why do you think so many service people are coming home and killing themselves?

There are more. Here is one

Yes eccentric. The whole thing is bizarre.

But if someone targets and shoots 100 of your own then it is time to stop making excuses, it means there is a freaking problem even if the problem isn't PC.

The LGBT crowd isn't dumb, but if they act like they are others will step up and do our best to protect American lives.

Yes, those evil white conservative straight folks WILL defend the lives of the LGBT community even if y'all won't because it isn't PC. Why is this country a leader in lgtb rights? Because we hate you? Families argue about all sorts of stuff. If we weren't family we wouldn't be arguing, you wouldn't have a voice. Wake up!

If you think your Islamic friends will defend you go check out an Islamic country, Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia, or any of the others that follows sharia law and let me know how that works out.

Omar Mateen and the suicide bomber in Syria attended the same (small) mosque in Florida. Can you even imagine the outrage if, let's say, Dylan Roof and James Holmes attended the same small church in the south‎? That church would be shut down faster than the hug-it-out crew could scream "Ban evil christianity and burn all churches!"

I have done a post on 'Identity' on the UI threads. In the 60s, as an anthropology major, my professors considered the idea of 'race' as outmoded. 'Ballantine Beer ridiculousness,' as one of my profs said. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 sapiens sapiens is not a 'ring species.' There is ethnicity. Since beyond the Paleolithic there has been 'us--not us.'

Arabic (I tried to learn it with a primer, it's not easy) is considered a Semitic language. Persian is considered an Indo-European. Many, I can't account for all, anthropologists & biologists consider ethnicity, or continentalism, a more acceptable term. Look at many population genetics blogs and see the disparity in ideas. Hatred and fear, it's corollary, will never leave our lizard brains. I have nothing to offer in terms of change. I just simply think we are hard-wired for some things, & that no amount of education or sensitivity training or PC awareness will help some people.

And yes, I do believe in evil. I once had a retreat director (Catholic) who was the exorcist for his order. He rode bare-back along the Rio Grande. I met a Jesuit at another retreat, he was the exorcist for another area of the U.S. Both had pure white hair at an early age. Both attested to the reality and presence of evil in this world. I've had the misfortune to meet several of the Central American death squad leaders--the aura of evil was there, so was that 1,000 yard stare. I have no answers. Only questions. English is not my first language so if I sound odd in syntax, that's it.

It's another thing to explore and consider just like all the other possibilities. That's why we're sleuths.

I also believe the more we learn about how he got to where he went the better we can see it and catch it before the next ones. Not us specifically although it could happen.

Was there a time and place when he chose this specific path? When was he past the point of no return? Was it illness? Anger? Influence/brainwashing? Antisocial personality? Homophobia? All of it?

FFS he lived in America. He -like a lot of us - won the lottery when he was born here.

That's a lot of vitriol in a single post.

If you are in the USA, your country is not a leader in gay rights, childrens rights, womens rights and maybe more. We all have much to learn about ourselves.

So, how do you plan on saving American lives? Because this atrocity is the latest in a long line of mass killings, from various sources. You don't seem to be getting your resolution across.
I am seriously listening to your answers. I have a genuine interest in wanting to know.

The only thing FBI found was attending same school and on occasion. Have not been to temple in 28 years , but I assume saying hi is what they do

At this point in his life according to Washington he had begain the isolation phase

My biggest fear is the Columbine killers. They have been inspiration to many. If you google school shootings thst have been stopped, it is unreal.

Adam Lanza wanted to kill more people than the Colmbine killers.

We need to start dealing differently with kids with anger issues. There are all kinds of great new strategies . Punitive measures do not work.

As far as the Middle East, can you imagine how messed up they are? Children with no parents. Children and adults with missing limbs and eyes. On and on. No mental health consultants there.

It is too bad that we use so much of our brains and money to kill rather than pressing full steam ahead to work on problems of the world.
Too bad the guy who wrote Three Cups of Tea was a liar. That is an approach that would work over dropping more bombs and making more angry terrorists with nothing to lose. When you have nothing , getting some fame and a trip to heaven probably sounds like a great deal. Throw in some birgins and yippee!

It sounds crazy, but remember those super rich people that were waiting for the spaceship to take them?I forget, did they all commit suicide or was someone helping them to die?

So much emphasis on being reactive rather than proactive. Instead of attacking or punishing the shooter/terrorist what if we found a way to prevent him from strapping on a suicide vest or stockpiling bombs and guns?

Holmes would never be in a church - he was the Joker!!

Average what? Shots per minute? I dunno, 120? More? It doesn't matter.

It isn't about speed of fire, it is about accuracy. That is why many have said he went back to fire rounds into the downed victims.

Hand someone a fully automatic AR and when they start to fire it is rapid, Very very rapid and it kicks, meaning they run out without hitting more than one target. That is why military guys in combat prefer semi-auto, when you are trying to kill the guy fighting back you need accuracy.

The gun doesn't do the killing, the human wielding it does. Killing with a firearm isn't easy, it is all about skill and anatomy.

I don't know which country you reside but islamic terrorism is a global problem, not a western one. There's no stopping it at this point when we can't even name or identify the enemy. We can't stop an attack, we can, however, at least for now, arm ourselves so we're not totally defenseless.

No matter. People from the Middle East aren't included in the whites category.

Its just math tho. The numbers clearly indicate they are almost as half as many more of these atrocites than ISIS here in the USA posted links earlier

Toddlers kill more than ISIS terrorists

I love you too. Pretty sure most everyone here does.

Kind of surprised you are male though. But that's okay. :)

Bright and aware because she got away?

It's in my nature to consider and explore whatever possibility comes up. Just can't turn off the critical thinking.

This never applies to astrology and aliens though.
