This disgusting pig, it's not bad enough that he killed his whole freaking family, just like Chris watts, he has to stoop to the lowest level and accuse his poor wife of the crime. Hopefully his efforts are as transparent to law-enforcement in a jury as they are to us.

It just shows how devoid of a human soul he really is. The only thing he cares about is himself.

Agree he is a disgusting pig. My thoughts are that LE is completely onto him. After reading AT's letter to his father, I think AT is a family annihilator in the same fashion as Chris Watts. A man who was looking for a fresh start. AT had created a hideous mess financially and he was about to be charged for healthcare fraud and was possibly even facing a prison sentence. He was backed up against the wall and his image of being the successful business owner, community leader, coach, and wonderful father and husband was about to be destroyed. In his letter to his father, he even accused Megan of committing the healthcare fraud.

This is JMO, and it's pure speculation on my behalf, but I think it is possible the murders did not go down as he had planned and that the benadryl wasn't enough to kill one or more of the victims. He apparently had at least one physical struggle with his oldest son, who put up a fight, and I think it is possible that Megan may have fought back as well. He resorted to physical violence to ensure they were all dead, and he stabbed and he strangled. Based on the picture of his hands after his arrest, my guess is he also punched one or more of the victims. Some of his knuckles are bruised badly and these do not appear to be fresh bruises. He also had deep scratches near his wrist.

More speculation, but I think it's possible his plan was to have claimed to have arrived home to find that unstable, unhealthy Megan, who believed the world was coming to an end, took things into her own hands and killed the kids, the dog and then herself. The physical violence that ensued left all kinds of evidence, including, IMO, physical injuries to AT. It might explain why he didn't call 911 but rather ended up staying in the house with the bodies for two weeks. Perhaps he was waiting for his injuries to heal and for decomp to make it impossible for an autopsy to detect soft tissue injuries on the victims that may have resulted from being beaten before being killed.

I could be wrong in my speculation. IDK. But I don't think he was holed up in the house in a psychotic state for two weeks. His phone was found in Sarasota and my assumption is that he went there and left his phone there for some reason. He was also seen by LE entering the house on the night he was arrested. He may have left the house more than that. It will be interesting to see what develops, but I think if an insanity defense was ever in the planning, that may have gone out the door when he wrote the letter to his father. That letter is very manipulative and cunning, IMO, and was designed to try to get him off the hook by trying to lay the blame for everything, including the healthcare fraud, on Megan.

In his letter he also discussed a life insurance policy on his life, that was larger, because he was the provider. There was also a life insurance policy on Megan's life and my guess is he was the beneficiary. There's the fresh start in his mind, IMO.

All JMO

I wonder how much truth there is to the pie thing. Wasn't he the cook in the house?

According to a letter written to his father from Osceola County Jail, Anthony Todt said his wife Megan Todt gave their three children a pie that looked good but smelled horrible and was made with Benadryl and Tylenol PM.

That pie thing is just too stupid. I think I have to go into online retirement for another couple of months to avoid hearing about these killer monsters.

Sorry I am way behind, I just read that link about his saying that she baked a smelly pie...so she supposedly told him about the smell of the pie while they were praying together? This really is too depressing given all else that's going on, I hope they are on to him and won't allow him to blame her. Was the dog poisoned with Benadryl too? How convenient that she confessed all the murders to him and then killed herself after confessing to him.

I agree, the pie thing is beyond stupid. My guess is LE didn't find any remnants of a pie in the house. I hate to even imagine how he administered toxic levels of benadryl to his wife and children.

  • #125
I think the pie thing is completely stupid, but I do think the pie exists and there was likely evidence of it. Just like he was sure to detail that Megan handed him the benadryl bottles to explain his fingerprints on them - I believe he's trying to "get ahead" of every detail. Everything in that letter was calculated.

MOO, of course.

You might be right. Agree that letter was very calculated and detailed. It was clearly designed to lay the blame on Megan for everything. IIRC, AT stated that when he was at home in Florida, he did the cooking so Megan could take a break. There's no doubt in my mind that he is the one who poisoned his family with benadryl. He put it in something they ingested, IMO. I've seen some evidence photos online, including the empty boxes of benadryl and a Walgreens benadryl knock off, AT's numerous injuries, two knives, a gun, the rosaries, some clothing as well as the master bedroom where the victims were discovered. But I've not seen a picture of a pie. They may have one, but may not have haven't released it. IDK.

Did the letter address the killing of the dog?

Yeah - I don't think we've seen a fraction of that house yet.

The pie "stinking" was a very curious detail to me. I've never noticed benadryl to have a particular smell (beyond the flavoring in liquid versions) so all the conversation about the smell of THAT but not of the rotting bodies he lived with for at least 2 weeks was a strange detail that stuck out to me. I wonder if the family made comments about the smell?

Did the letter address the killing of the dog?

No, and that really stuck out to me, too.

Great analysis! Totally agree. He's a classic family annihilator.

Is there a transcript that you're aware of to this letter? I must admit I read 2/3 of it, because I was reading copies of the handwritten letter and it was small and tedious to read.

You noted that he tried to blame Megan for the healthcare fraud. That was probably part of the 1/3 I missed. Can you elaborate of this point?

I completely agree about the fresh start. I would just add that there was rage behind his killing. If their finances had been in order, I think they would have been like any other typical bad marriage where resentment builds over the years but never boils over. I think he resented her not working; resented her for her illness(es), and saw her as weak.

He, in his mind, is everyone's hero and best friend, runs a thriving business, and is the world's best husband and father. No way he's going to prison when his wife's condition made him do the things he did (his mind.)

And isn't it interesting that he chose to write the letter to his father. Why not his sister, who he had apparently been closer to?

It is very tedious and difficult to read. But he sure did lay the healthcare fraud on Megan but he also kind of tries to make it appear to have been a mistake and goes into some detail about the billing system. You may recall that when federal investigators met with him last year, he admitted to committing healthcare fraud and he told investigators that Megan didn't know about it. In his letter he is saying that he looked at the paperwork they left behind and realized it had occurred when Megan had taken over the billing.

He also added that it was "bs" and they were only talking probation and he had discussed this with Megan and told her he would leave her name out of it. In the letter he also said Megan took over handling the family finances in 2013/2014.

JMO, it seemed to me that the healthcare fraud was a pretty big deal. That is why LE was at his rental home that evening. They had the home under surveillance and they were going to arrest him for healthcare fraud. They watched him enter the house, and AT didn't lock the door, so LE entered the house and discovered a mass homicide had occurred.

Agree, it is interesting that he wrote this to his father. I would imagine he had to know the jail would be monitoring his mail and his phone calls, too. A question in my mind, is did he want this to be put out there for the prosecution to see?

I appreciate the scribd link to the letter. It was much easier to read there. This man is clearly full of himself. One minute he paints his wife as sickly and barely able to walk, the next minute he fears the "scolding" she will give him for missing a therapy session with her. And let's not forget he pinned all of the financial trouble on her. I don't buy any of his story. He is taking a page from the Chris Watts playbook of blame the wife/victim.

That letter is what convinced me that this is right out of the Chris Watts' playbook. JMO, I think the murders were about him getting a fresh start so he could try to escape the legal and financial problems that he created. JMO, I think one of those problems is that he was likely gaslighting Megan for years and I think he kept her in the dark about what he was doing with the finances, the unbelievably huge loans and the healthcare fraud. JMO, it may have been easier for him to commit murder than to admit any of this to her and also I think there is a big element of him trying to preserve his image with others as being a great guy.

In the letter he paints Megan out to be an invalid, who needed to be carried up the stairs, needed help taking a shower and getting dressed. If all of that was true, then why would he leave her alone for the majority of each week to home school their children, arrange the extra activities for the children, take care of a big house, handle the family finances and also do the billings for the business? And he also claims there was a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage in the fall of 2019.

I don't buy any of his story, either. I think he is a self-serving family annihilator like Chris Watts.

I don't recall seeing anything in his letter about Breezy. I've also not seen it stated anywhere how she was killed. She was a very little dog and JMO, it probably wouldn't have taken much to kill her.

Todt in call from jail: ‘I couldn’t stop this because I wasn’t there'

Nov. 29, 2020

In a March phone call from jail, Anthony Todt told his sister that he couldn’t stop his family from being murdered.

“I couldn’t stop this because I wasn’t there,” he told Chrissy Caplet, who lives in Connecticut but was in Florida at the time of the call after assuming power of attorney over her older brother.

In two calls between Todt and Caplet in March and April, Todt suggested that his wife, Megan, had been responsible for her own death as well as the deaths of their three children and family dog. He suggested that she may have tried to kill them before.

Me too.

Well, he seems to be as violent, self-centred, hypocritical, hubristic, dishonest, cynical and at least as shameless as CW, while blending in a bit of Patrick Frazee-style narrative manipulation, projection, and blame-the-victim hostility. It's not enough to murder -- it has to be their fault.

I think Todt had come to both hate and despise his family. I can well imagine that a fly on the wall during those weeks he lived with their bodies would have seen and heard quite a bit of that hatred. And I bet that fly made for the exits just as soon as it could.

I agree, he REALLY hated them.

His family were facebook topics that brought the *glow* back on him as to how great a husband and father he was. He puts a face to evil.

Only someone directly responsible for the crime covers the bodies and carries on with daily tasks for weeks (if he truly "stumbled" upon this scene). There is a special place in hell for people like him.

I can't excuse this crime on mental illness, or the sins of his father, or anything else. But I think this is where this case is going and it will get him off softly and not be justice for the family.
