OK - after watching the presser, I feel a little better...this is not a case of a 'dad' claiming someone stole the baby.

Prayers for this baby boy - and that LE finds his kidnapper any minute now.

I have to keep my mouth shut because this sounds way too hinky to me.

The parents were "uneasy" a couple of hours after this "DCF worker" took the baby so they called LE. It sounded to me like it was around 4:45 PM when this occurred.

Ugh.

I'm sorry.........

IMO, they are a little slow and behind in their news reporting capabilities in this town. Let's hope they do a better job on this case than the Somer Thompson case.

They should be releasing more info ASAP - every minute counts!

ITA - every minute counts, but...

Where do you live?

Are they any better at reporting a case like this?

[fwiw - I don't live in Jax; I live down by Haleigh.]

I'm too jaded too, badme.....I'm just trying to hang in there on this one....and like I've said before, it usually works out better if the baby was taken than if the parents lied about what happened....that's what I feel bad about.

I guess I am bitter over the poor and inaccurate reporting in the Somer case. :banghead:

They can't even get spelling or simple biology terms correct. It makes me question some of their abilities.

Police: Baby Kidnapped By Woman Posing As DCF Worker

22723080_240X135.jpg

Chief Rick Graham, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said a family had taken their newborn for a checkup at Shands-Jacksonville at about 12:45 p.m. He said the family saw a woman who appeared to be following them.
Graham said the family got home at about 4:45 p.m., and the woman had followed them to their house, posing as a DCF worker, and convinced the baby's mother there was an ongoing investigation and that she needed to turn over her child.
Graham said the black woman who took the child was driving a brown Honda Accord and left with the child.
He said the parents felt uneasy and called police a couple hours later.

Jacksonville police seek baby, reported taken by DCF fraud
By Steve Patterson, Matt ColemanStory updated at 11:27 PM on Tuesday, Mar. 2, 2010

Snipped >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The woman saw the baby and her family at Shands Jacksonville about 12:45 p.m. and began following them, Sheriff's Office Chief Rick Graham told reporters tonight.

After the family returned home, the woman came to their door and identified herself as an employee of the Department of Children and Families, authorities said.

The woman told the family she was conducting an investigation, Graham said. He said the woman had something she presented as identification or credentials, but wouldn't elaborate.

The family handed the child over to the woman, but became suspicious later and called police

LE/the parents need to release a name and photo ASAP, in my opinion.

I wonder what kinda info she showed them to make herself seem legit.

I don't know if I'm buying this at all.

Maybe this is what happened, but I find it hard to believe.

  • #37
Hopefully there is good surveillance video and they can find the perp quickly.
